"Without a doubt the best property we have rented in the last 30 years of coming to the Lake District."
The duvet in our bedroom was too thick and lumpy but that was our only criticism.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in Wykefield. We are sorry that the duvet wasn't to your liking, we do often find that this is down to personal preference. We hope to welcome you back. The owner relations team - Lakelovers Property Owner

"We enjoyed our time at Wykefield."
We think it's important to highlight that some pictures of the outside of the property on the website are misleading. You see the whole house structure, but half of the building is the "Esk Wyke Country House Hotel". The windows facing out the downstairs 'nook', the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom all overlook the hotel car park. People are coming and going from there at all hours. You should be aware of that prior to booking. The main attraction of the house is the extension with the elongated dining room and kitchen which is lovely. The extra fridge-freezer in the garage is not mentioned in the description and would have been really useful to have known about when planning food to take. The tennis table in the garage is not very nice and bendy, so wasn't useable. The beds were comfortable. Despite the water being non-mains supplied, the pressure was great and reliable. The appliances all worked well and we liked the utilities. There's lots of board games, DVDs, maps, interesting books and a well-equipped kitchen. As pleasant, well equipped and thought out as the house is, we feel it's expensive for what you get. There's no proper games room or other facilities that for £2,500/week you should be getting at this range. This is a nice house, and a really great stay, but not at this cost. Especially with the hotel at peak season next door, with their suite windows overlooking the garden you're relaxing in. It's a well-placed location with several walks, towns and facilities nearby. It's of note that Beatrix Potter stayed in this house (prior to it being half hotel) and decided she wanted to live in the Lakes because of it! Esthwaite Water, which the garden overlooks, is privately owned and inaccessible so it's for view only. Overall, this is a good stay but pricey for what you get.
Thank you for taking the time to leave detailed feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Wykefield. We take all comments on board, and we will look at the information provided to ensure that it is up to date. We hope that you will return to the Lakes again. "We loved our stay in your property - thanks for renting it out!"
Such a beautiful house and location. It had everything we needed for a really great stay - BBQ, great kitchen facilities, lots of living space for a big group

"We had a lovely stay in Wykefield."
There is a lot of space for all the family. We took our 2 youngest sons, their partners and two grandchildren. Our 15 month old grandson absolutely loved having all that space to explore, he was so happy

"Amazing property would definitely recommend it"
-
"We really loved our stay here and appreciate in particular all of the luxury, homely touches."
The location was so good that it was practically shown in the World of Beatrix Potter museum (well the view was). Everything felt thought of, and made our stay just perfect. We have stayed in a lot of Airbnbs and Sykes Cottages but this was our favourite so far and would love to return. Unfortunately we parked in the neighbour's space (it seemed empty and unkept so assumed it was available) next to our garden, if you could maybe be a bit more explicit on where we can park that would be great - as he seemed fine with us pulling up alongside the garage in the courtyard instead. There is space for 2 cars by the front door but a bit trickier for a 3rd. We can't unfortunately return during the summer months as the garden is not suitable for children (the sheer drops are even more severe than I realised at booking). There's a park on your doorstep to take the kids out for a run around! Thanks again and hope to book again!

"We loved the place."
Helpful feedback would be to include logs within the price. Safety rails on the patio, although I know it would spoil the view, so maybe some safety paint to mark the edges. Otherwise it exceeded our expectations.
-
"Wykefield is an absolutely lovely property, wonderful views over the lake, peaceful location and plenty for the family to do both inside and outside!"
We will definitely book again!!

"Lovely property."
Best we’ve stayed in, though affordable and good value 1st week November, less so in high season. Shame we couldn’t experience the outdoor space which was very enticing with lovely views as it rained almost all week. But it was November afterall. Tastefully decorated, lovely bathrooms and exotic downstairs loo, and very well equipped kitchen. Plenty of fridge and freezer space with 2nd in the outbuilding with table tennis table. Spacious utility room with lots of drying space for coats and boots. Only suggestions to improve what was a great experience. Pasta bowls and a coffee pod machine.

"We were absolutely thrilled and we hope to come back next summer!"

-
"Wykefield was very clean, stylishly furnished and extremely well equipped."
The location, outside space and views are absolutely superb. We loved everything about it. There was plenty of space, seating and kitchen equipment for 8 guests. All in all, a totally relaxing holiday and I can't wait to return!
-
"The cleanliness of this property was poor compared with our previous visit."
Key things bathrooms, beds and kitchen were good but dust and cobwebs in every room. Chiids hand prints on all floor level windows and TV screens.
-
"We loved our stay at Wykefield."
The views were outstanding and the house was perfect for our family celebrations, thank you very much.
-
"Amazing place, the whole family loved it."

-
"Beautiful property, comfort, furnishings and equipment all top notch."
You can see a lot of effort and thought has been put into the house.
-
"A beautiful, elegant house, with spectacular views of the lake and wonderful facilities, within easy walking distance to a great local pub, we will certainly be back ."
-
"An absolutely fabulous holiday property inside and out, with breath taking views."
It had the wow factor and was perfect in very way! Amazing walks from the door and good location for exploring this part of the Lakes but to be honest we were always glad to get back to the house just to enjoy the garden, the views and it's tranquillity. The.only downside is that when I got back home and went to book the property again for next year at about the same time, the weekly price had increased by over £700. I was expecting an increase but its way over our budget now. I'm absolutely gutted that this was probably our first and last time to stay in this wonderful place.
Dear Mrs Godfrey Thank you for your feedback we are happy to hear you enjyed your stay at Wykefield We appreciate the time taken to send your observations which we have now discussed with the owner. They have taken on board all the points you have raised and we have changed the prices moving forward so if you are still wishing to book for 2022 please have a look. There is a slight increase but they are more in line with what the owner would like to charge for next year Thank you once again for your feedback and we do hope to see you again in the future. The property
Class and character in a dreamy countryside setting!
Victorian elegance and contemporary luxury combine here to make a first-class holiday home for a large family or group of friends.
And you are so much in the heart of Beatrix Potter country that her former home is literally just down the road!
Tucked away on the quieter bank of Lake Windermere, Wykefield is a really special rural retreat for your party. The outstanding views from your holiday home are a breath of fresh air for any jaded soul, and extend across serene Esthwaite Water.
You have direct access to the Lake, too!
Walls of glass in the elegant lounge makes the most of this stunning outlook, and the beautiful slate-floored conservatory dining-area, simply another level of decadence, also lets you soak in the scenery, and opens on to the superb Lakeland stone terraced patio, fronting on to the gently sloped lawn.
Out here, you can spend a chilled afternoon sprawled on the grass or enjoy a BBQ together on the excellent garden furniture set.
The owners of the property respectfully advise that extra care may be needed if there are small children in your party as there are significant drops within the grounds and the terrace is unfenced. Near Sawrey is one of Lakeland's most celebrated and prettiest hamlets, and it's most famous resident was the well-loved author of the 'Peter Rabbit' stories, Beatrix Potter.
Miss Potter took holidays at the very residence of which Wykefield forms a part, and even completed a rather famous tale, 'Peter Rabbit', while she stayed here!
Hilltop, her subsequent home, is sited here, too.
Also close by, the Tower Bank Arms is a quaint and comfortable local offering fine real ales.
And the walking around you is of the very highest calibre.
Stroll on to Claife Heights from your doorstep, take a dip in Moss Eccles Tarn, or saunter by the shores of Lake Windermere. When you return to your delightful country abode, there is nothing better than to put some logs on the open fire and toast your toes together in the inviting lounge.
And you also have the aptly-named 'snug' available if you need a little 'me' time or your party are looking for different ways to unwind.
Charming and tasteful décor throughout verify that this outstanding property is tailor-made for total relaxation.
Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
About the location
HAWKSHEAD
Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.
The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
