  • "I think a large bottle of drinking water would be a good idea due to the fact that the water at the property is not safe to drink without first boiling it."

Tired travellers would appreciate this as the nearest shop is some distance away. Our stay was very pleasant in a lovely exceptionally clean cottage with red squirrels and nuthatch abundant in the garden. The night sky was amazing. Sykes sorted out a heating issue on the same day and I would recommend this company.

  • "What a difference to when I stayed 40 years ago."

Then there was an outside toilet and I have memories of needing a broom to push away the geese! I would remove your recommendation of the 'Talbot Bar' at the 'Skelwith Bridge Hotel', the meal was terrible, must be a different chef now. I found the cottage furnished, decorated and maintained to a very high standard, it was lovely. Andrew Bolton

  • "A beautiful setting and comfortable cottage."

Bath and shower rooms excellent. Kitchen clean and has everything. Living room chairs could be more comfortable and cleaned, they were quite grubby. Love the summer house and being able to see red squirrels and deer in the garden. Love that there are beautiful walks and sights to see within walking distance. Very peaceful. It would be better to have some more info about there being no drinking water, that it has to be boiled first. Not a problem except if you want a cold drink on arrival. A bottle already boiled, left in the fridge, or warning to bring some, would've been helpful. Also, I would not recommend this place for nervous drivers, the lane is very narrow, steap and winding, up to the cottage. However, I loved this place and would definitely come back.

  • "I would have liked the property to have appeared cleaner upon arrival."

The toilets were not cleaned properly and there was dog hair collected together on the floors. The house however was beautiful and was the most perfect destination for what we wanted from the holiday. Whilst we were aware of the private water supply, the discoloured water was really offputting for cleaning dishes/having showers, possibly something that bothered us more than it should have but something to note. There were lots of walks from our doorstep and the garden was perfect for relaxing in, the added bonus being the summer house at the bottom of the garden. It was great! Views were stunning, beds very comfortable, had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed the views and the beds! We are sorry to hear of the issues that you experienced with cleanliness at the property. • "Lovely property, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Being able to store our bikes safely was a great benefit. All the rooms were good and the shower room and separate bathroom are a definite positive. The location is very peaceful and is over a mile down a narrow lane but there are plenty of passing places and we never encountered any problems. My only negative would be that the hoover didn’t charge meaning we were unable to maintain the cleanliness. We brought our own water and therefore had no problems on that front I would recommend that to all future guests.

  • "Absolutely loved our stay- hence the 4 stars."

The cottage was just as listed, however there were a few issues. The property listed that it had a private water supply, I wasn’t aware that would mean that no of the water was drinkable, so we then had to drive to get loads of water from the town. The property didn’t mention that the garden was shared either- this wasn’t a problem but would’ve been nice to know. Finally, a neighbour let his black Labrador out twice a day and it always found it’s way into our garden and scared our dogs. One night, it was in the garden for 2 hours, meaning our dogs were inside for that time. Maybe better fencing needed? Other than that, an ideal location with beautiful views and so quiet.

  • "Sadly, we were not aware that the cottage water is not drinkable until we arrived - without drinking water."

Added to that, the water filter was clogged, the water brown and on day two the water supply dribbled to a stop. And running the gauntlet of speeding tractors towing tons of rock along the access road was less than fun. Having said that, the cottage is lovely, clean, warm and comfortable.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay. We are sorry for the issue that you experienced with the water at the property. The listing does state that the road in narrow. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Instructions to Cottage, collection of key etc were all good, but the main problem there was no cold water to the shower or washbasin in the main bathroom which was dangerous as the shower was so hot!"

Also on the 2nd evening the cold water to the washbasin in the shower room disappeared, there does seem to be a problem. We would also recommend some spare loo rolls are needed considering the rural location of cottage, we were given a part one each and on the last morning it was a near miss!!!

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a lovely location."

The owner obviously has high standards and the property has been thoughtfully designed. We appreciated the very effective heating which meant the cottage was very cosy in February. However there were a few little things that slightly let it down, though they would not stop us from returning. The information about the drinking water was ambiguous. We are used to a private water supply, so would rather be presented with the facts rather than some information saying it’s ok to drink and others saying it’s not. The floors downstairs had only been superficially cleaned - there was still dog hair and other debris, and when wiping up a spill of water in the kitchen it became clear the floor needed a good clean. We couldn’t get the underfloor heating in the bathrooms to work despite following the instructions - we used the towel rails instead so we were not cold. There is a lightbulb out by the bed in the top floor double. The UV filter says it needs servicing. The sofas and beds were adequate but none of us found them especially comfortable - especially the pillows which were lumpy. Overall, I think it was good value for money, and we would return.

The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The log burner made for some very cosy nights which was needed with all the wind and rain! The location was excellent with some lovely walks right from the doorstep. It would have been useful if we had known that bottled water is recommended or to have some left in the cottage at least for the first night. Our only slight negative is that the garden fence could do with some attention. We would love to visit again.

The cottage was very nice and comfortable, underfloor heating a bonus, showers were excellent. Beautiful scenery and very quiet. The cottage is set away from noisy roads and does not have any shops, cafes etc within short walking distance, however brilliant for anyone wanting to explore on foot and enjoy long walks.

  • "Wow! The photos do not do this cottage justice!"

Looks dark but it is not at all, just has the most beautiful polished slate floor. So clean with waterfall showers to die for after a long hike. Left a welcome pack of cleaning bits which was really helpful. In a great position so near to Coniston, Ambleside, Langdale, but with walks from the doorstep- so quiet and peaceful. Garden and surrounds are stunning. Helped to have lovely large garden fully secure for the dogs. Only one small point that it should point out that the garden is shared with the adjacent cottage so could be problematic if there were incompatible dogs or any intolerance ( my dogs don’t understand they were meant to stay on the left side of the dividing path! Sorry!). Netflix signal was good for a cosy evening in. Daughter loved her bedroom on the third floor with velux windows for views. Hotel quality bathrooms with fluffy thick immaculate towels. Track from the road a bit precarious- ok in a 4WD but might feel uncomfortable in a normal car ( very narrow passing places!). Just the best, definitely want to return!

  • "The cottage is lovely!"

We had a great time. A nice and cozy is was well cleaned at our arrival. The garden is very nice as well, and we found the facilities nice and comfortable (beds, couches, bathrooms). Also, relevant information to the cottage use and instructions were clearly left visible at the corkboard in the kitchen next to the fridge. The only thing we would highlight for the future is that we had 1 rainy day in which we would have loved to watch some TV, but even though there is a Freesat box and remote, it wasn't set to be used! And of course without knowing if it was ok to use it or not we didn't want to set it up and get in trouble. A couple of things to keep in mind for future people using the cottage: - There is absolutely no signal at all and the WiFi is patchy. Understandable being in the middle of nowhere, so books and brochures to plan ahead can come in quite handy! - You'll need a sturdy car going up and down as there is a big big hole on the road leading to the place, and must have been there a while as we have seen it mentioned in other reviews.

The cottage is quiet and very warm with modern oil radiators; we put these on ‘standby’ on Christmas Day so we could light the wood burner. There are two good bathrooms with plenty of hot water and the beds are comfortable. It’s a lovely location and we did walks from the door to Holme Fell, Little Langdale and Lingmoor Fell and Tarn Hows. We didn’t mind the narrow road up but it might be a bit annoying in summer if there’s more traffic, as there aren’t that many passing places.

No mobile reception at cottage & WiFi didn’t work on arrival, but once we were able to make a call to office, WiFi was fixed very promptly. The kitchen although small is well equipped . The bathrooms are good with plenty of hot water for showers and white fluffy towels . The beds are comfortable . We had fab weather so could eat outside on the provided table and also enjoyed the new summerhouse. We had 5 bikes and a big jogging pushchair so it was a bit of a squeeze in the bike shed but for us this extra space was essential. The shared garden was not a problem for us and we enjoyed the view and the quietness. We did not find the road up difficult. We enjoyed being able to walk and ride from Robins Nest . It is more remote than we expected and the route to the property can be a challenge at times with "oncoming quarry traffic" as the road is very narrow with passing places. The cottage is lovely and cosy in a fabulous location near the old quarry. Fabulous scenery, walks and wildlife on the doorstep - literally!!, we had a couple of visits from several Herdwicks which was nice :-) The fire makes the lounge warm and cozy and the underfloor heating is a bonus too. We are missing Robins Nest already, we would highly recommend as a destination.

It has much to offer with delightful walks from the door. The cottage is well equipped with everything needed for a family of four. The open fire a welcome treat though the cottage was snug enough without. The living room provided views of the garden with passing wildlife The sheltered summerhouse even in winter was a lovely place to sit with a coffee and contemplate the scenery. Would recommend for those wanting a place to stay away from the bustle of a village location. The only caviat being that the garden boundaries are unusual with the garden path being shared by the neighbouring cottage and the garden being overlooked. This was not an issue for us but could be in summer if all the cottages for were occupied.
