  • "We loved our stay."

The cottage was in a perfect position for our weekend and we enjoyed watching the world go by from the upstairs living room. The parachutes being dropped just outside was a bonus! We enjoyed a really nice meal at The Pheasant Inn and did a couple of excellent walks from Cartmel. I do believe that the Lake District was one of the only places in the country not to suffer from significant rainfall that weekend so all in all it was a great success

  • "Comfortable cottage."

Well cleaned. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Slightly less view than the photos suggest. Small defects: curtains are torn from the hooks in the bedrooms, bare energy saving lamps without a cover in the bedrooms. For charging an electric car, contact the owner and pay separately. Driving onto the site was easy even with our wide car, but be careful when driving away, because people drive quite fast on the road in front of the house. There is also sufficient parking space behind the house. The walk over Humphrey Head is recommended, but go at low tide and wear boots.

  • "Despite it being a nice looking property in a nice area, the first thing we noticed when we walked in was the smell of damp."

The second thing was how infested the kitchen/dining area was with ants. The bed sheets also shared the same smell and the mattresses were so hard to sleep on.

I am at the property now and I see no ants and have never seen them at the property. All the carpeting is new throughout the property. It is also newly decorated this spring inside and out so perhaps that is what the smell is... but not damp. One of the double mattresses is new. It is a firm mattress. The second double room has a double soft mattress. Maybe should have tried baby bears bed? Property Owner

  • "This was a well maintained and very lovely holiday home."

The upstairs living space was a delight, with spectacular view across Morecombe bay. The bedrooms bathrooms and kitchen were clean and well stocked. There was a very large garden at the rear that we also enjoyed. The owner had left good clear instructions for all aspects of the property. Even the narrow gate was not an issue for our larger than normal SUV. A lovely holiday and would definitely return again. Thank you

I appreciate the positive feedback and am really glad you enjoyed your stay Property Owner

  • "It was a cottage that was very clean with everything we needed."

The two problems were: The walk to the pub was not all on a footpath and the road was quite fast. The main drawback was getting in and out of the drive by car as you were straight onto the road and it was difficult to see either direction. The mirror provided was of some help but line of sight needs attention. Overall we had a good stay in the clean and well equipped cottage.

It is quite a fast road and there is no footpath on the bridge going into Flookburgh itself. The driveway exit is awkward. The roadside bushes are cleared twice a year to help with line of sight. Property Owner

  • "Excellent property which was fully equipped and very clean."

Great location to explore Cumbria. Would definitely book again constructive feedback, oven was not brilliant to cook in ( might have been us) and you need to reverse in to the driveway of a main road but it is manageable. The driveway could do with a tidy up from mud. Minor points overall great place and would book again

The driveway has been improved. The electric oven is fan assisted... not sure what to say other than I think it needs getting used to. Property Owner

  • "All bedrooms a good size."

Upstairs living room great and loved the views. Liked the garden at the back and the fact the property had open field on one side. Getting on the drive at the front was a challenge. We drive a jazz but anything bigger would be impossible to get through the gateway. Would be good to widen the entrance. Minor points are that there was no clock in the property and the front and back door locks were stiff to operate. We are considering booking again in the future and recommend the property to others.

The driveway is tight—the width measures 2.5 metres i.e. 8 feet. With large vehicles, there is parking in the cup-de-sac at the rear gate entrance. A clock is a great idea... didn't think of that. There was a clock radio until recently but it has gone so I need to replace. There is also a clock on the cooker. Property Owner

  • "Lovely bathrooms and upstairs living room."

A fousty smell in kitchen and kitchen cupboards, it improved over week by leaving doors and windows open. Messy and grubby under sink cupboard. Patio area felt too exposed to neighbours to sit outside. Very tight difficult gateway into the property. A good location for exploring the southern lakes. Just not what we are used to from Sykes rating for a 4 star 'excellent throughout' .

I have informed the changeover cleaning company. Property Owner

About the location

FLOOKBURGH

Cartmel 2 miles; Grange-over-Sands 3 miles.

A superb base to explore this interesting and beautiful area, the historic village of Flookburgh is set near the shores of Morecambe Bay on the outskirts of the magnificent Lake District. It is thought that the locally-caught Fluke fish take their name after the village, and once, Flookburgh was a popular resting point for travellers crossing the sands from Lancaster and still provides a home for cockle and shrimp fishers. Facilities in the village include a pub, a grocery, a chemist, a Post Office and two food outlets. The Cumbrian Coastal Way footpath passes nearby and a short walk away from the village is delightful countryside, such as Humphrey Head, views of the bay, with its wading bird life, and Coniston's mountain range. A few minutes’ drive or a pleasant off road walk leads to historic Cartmel, with its beautiful Priory, popular race course, antique and gift shops, pubs and restaurants; including the Michelin Star-rated L’Enclume. Just over a mile away you will find the beautiful house and gardens of Holker Hall and also nearby you can try horse riding just six miles to the north at Bigland, or visit the Edwardian resort of Grange, which offers a range of hotels, restaurants, shops, a traffic-free promenade, ornamental gardens and golf courses.
