  • "We have stayed her before and all was great."

This trip when we arrived the heating sounded like a jack hammer in the house. It was the heating. After reporting an engineer turned up on Monday. 2 Sleepless nights later. When they looked at the system they stated they could not fix it as the room where the fault was was locked. The system became quieter but did not work properly for the rest of the week. The engineer stated it would partially work until the fault was fixed. So we were cold at night. The back door lock was broken and an locksmith turned up Tuesday to fix. There was a broken handle on the entry gate and the rest fell apart but i managed to put it back together to get us in. 1 Handle was broken off on arrival. Overall we love the place and this trip was disappointing due to the problems.

We are sorry you experienced these problems and found your trip disappointing. We want to assure you we did everything we could to resolve the issues as soon as we were made aware of them. We were informed of the problem with the heating and back door on the Sunday evening of your stay and organised the appropriate trades to attend to the problem at the next available opportunity. For the heating this was Monday. On arrival the plumber rang us to explain the situation and to arrange getting a key to the door. He advised us that the guests in the cottage didn't require him to get a key as there wasn't a problem anymore. Therefore he left. We were unaware that the problem hadn't been resolved and that you were cold. We can only apologise for this but had we been made aware of this we could have had the issue fixed. The back door was operational on change over so again we can only apologise for the problem you encountered. We arranged for this to be fixed at the earliest opportunity and the issue was resolved. The gate was left operational. We were aware of a problem with the gate handle from previous guests and had organised for it to be fixed. A temporary fix had been completed ( we are waiting for a part). We are sorry that the temporary fix didn't hold up and for any inconvenience caused. Please accept our apologies and know we did our best to resolve the issues at the earliest opportunity. Property Owner

  • "We loved Tree Tops for our 3 nights in October 24, 3 walkers plus dog having a go at most of Isaac’s Tea Trail."

The cottage is warm and comfortable, especially the adjoining sitting room and large kitchen with the wood burning stove across both ( which we used- so cosy) The weather was atrocious, but with dog in tow we went out in all our waterproofs. We had some slight reprieves especially walking along the river out of Allendale which was beautiful. Highly recommend the trail, if you have good boots, maps and gear ( and better weather). Could we ask for the following which would have helped our stay? *Clothes horse to hang up wet clothes Also The kitchen tap is dripping all the time The door locks ( including French doors to back) are tricky so perhaps more than just advice is now needed? We are strong and yet still struggled The gate handle needs fixed ( important with a dog to help keep safe as you go in and out) Perhaps a hand towel each would be nice as well as an extra towel in kitchen

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you loved your stay. Thank you for your suggestion of a clothes horse - we will look into getting one. Thank you for letting us know about the tap we will get this looked at. We have got somebody booked in to fox the doors and gate. Thank you for staying at Treetops. Property Owner

Very spacious and well equipped It would seem to be an ongoing issue locking the front door and also the handle on front gate broken so difficult to keep gate secure to prevent our dogs getting straight out to main road . That was the only niggle in a very relaxing holiday Would love to return to this beautiful place

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you had a relaxing holiday. We are sorry for the problems with the gate and doors. We have booked somebody to come and fix them. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

Underfloor heating made it warm on arrival. The log fire is great. Bathroom shower and bath fantastic. Plenty of kitchen space and facilities for food preparation. Comfortable lounge and good WIFI access, if you need it. Note for owners: half of external side gate handle is missing. Also External door locks were difficult to lock/unlock without human weight braced against door. WD40? Otherwise, many thanks, we enjoyed our stay!

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry you had problems with the doors and gate. We have asked somebody to come and fix them. Thank you again for staying at Treetops. Property Owner

  • "We booked this cottage looking for a relaxing break and we weren’t disappointed."

Tree Tops is a wam, clean and comfortable cottage in a friendly village in beautiful countryside. The kitchen had a most impressive double fridge/freezer, the shower in the bathroom was excellent with almost immediate hot water and the range of programmes on the television in the comfortable lounge couldn’t be bettered. However being in my 80’s I found the entrance door very difficult, at times nearly impossible, to close and lock properly because of its very tight fit. Despite that minor problem we had a wonderful stay and we returned home refreshed and relaxed. Thanks for making our holiday so memorable. Hopefully we will be able to return in the future. John,Susan and Lyndsay Stanton.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased you had a memorable holiday and found Treetops warm, clean and comfortable. So sorry you struggled with the door, we will have this looked at. Thank you for staying at Treetops and we look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

The bedrooms are generous in size and beautifully decorated, the beds are super comfy and you're guaranteed a great night's sleep. The downstairs is also generous in size and the kitchen dinning area is the perfect entertaining space. The kitchen is well equipped and having the luxury of a double fridge / freezer is fantastic. The location is peaceful but it also has local amenities within walking distance, and Alston is only a short drive away. There are plenty of places to visit as well and all within easy reach of the property - which makes it a great base for exploring.

We will definitely be returning. The property has been renovated to an outstanding level and in keeping with the age of the cottage. Loved the open plan feel of the downstairs area and the kitchen is really well equipped. The bedrooms are all an excellent size and the bathroom is beautiful. Outside the garden is a decent size but would benefit from an additional gate to stop children or dogs getting to the gate at the front of the property. One last things, the boiler makes a rather large banging noise when the radiators upstairs come on. Overall 10/10 property and outstanding area.

It has generous sized bedrooms, with quality furnishings and the very comfortable beds. The bathroom has the most wonderful shower and bath, and again is fitted to a very good standard. The downstairs of the property is also of generous proportions and is very well thought out. The kitchen / dining space is huge and allows for everyone to be together whilst cooking and eating. Both the living room and dining room benefit from the log fire and it makes the place feel even more homely. There are lovely little touches such as a pint of fresh milk in the fridge along with some tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolates and even a few dog treats on arrival - which are very much appreciated. The outside space is also of a good size and is secure which is very useful when taking a dog. There's ample on street parking for two cars (possibly more) directly outside the property and access to the property is simple and straightforward. We had the best time here, it was lovely and peaceful but also only a short walk to the local shop and amenities. We genuinely can not find fault with anything. We had great communication with the owners, who were friendly and polite. Its safe to say we will be returning next year and we can't wait to do so!!

NENTHEAD

Alston 4.6 miles; Stanhope 15.4 miles; Penrith 24.4 miles.

Nenthead is one of the highest villages in England and has a rich mining history. Many mines still remain which are open to the public and waiting to be discovered. The village was also the first to have electric street lighting due to the excess power created by the mining industry. This is a fantastic base for those looking to explore the area as the village has a pub, restaurant, shop/Post Office, children’s play area and a church set in an elevated position. There are a number of attractions available in the nearby area including taking a ride on one of the lovingly-restored steam and diesel engines through the beautiful scenery of the South Tyne valley on the South Tynedale Railway.
