"We had an amazing stay."
Such a cosy cottage but plenty of space and absolutely everything we could need. So well placed for exploring the area. We absolutely loved being able to walk to the train station and explore the Carlisle line. Thank you so much for the flapjack, milk, prosecco and doggy treats and for a brilliant stay.

"Harber Scar is a beautiful cottage in a fabulous location for the 3 peaks."
It had everything you could possibly need and more. We loved cosy evenings in front of the fire after long walks with the dogs during the day. We also spent time visiting the Ribble head viaduct and had a fantastic lunch at the Station Inn as well as ingleton, Hawes and Settle. We will definitely return.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you loved cosy evenings in front of the fire with your dogs and found the location fabulous for exploring the local area. We look forward to welcoming you back to Harber Scar. Property Owner

"A beautiful, comfortable and well equipped cottage."
Welcome bottle of milk, prosecco and home made flapjacks plus dog biscuits for the four legged friends. We could not fault a thing. Very enjoyable stay at Harber Scar.

"Lovely wee cottage."
Very well equipped with comfy beds. Perfectly situated for walks from the village and a 5 minute walk from the station for further walks along the Settle Carlisle route if you don't want to use the car. Welcome goodies much appreciated! Garden dog friendly - but do check the gate to the road is closed. Dogs appreciated early morning and evening 'business' walks in the big fields over the bridge on the right hand side. Only complaint was the midges - but you can't do anything about that! Would certainly consider returning.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you would consider returning to Harber Scar. As you said the cottage is conveniently located to make the most of using the Settle to Carlisle railway if you want to start walks further a field and walk back to the village without using the car. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"Fabulous cottage with great walks on the doorstep."
Make sure you visit 'The Crown' for the rudest service in any UK pub. Such fun! Very well equipped kitchen and lovely flapjack and bottle of fizz and milk to welcome us. Don't hesitate. Book it. Walkers paradise.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed staying at Harber Scar and found it a walkers paradise. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"Beautiful cottage."
Excellent location for walking. Cottage was comfortable and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Fantastic extra little touches that we really appreciated. A definite recommendation for family and dogs.

"Cottage was clean, cosy and had everything we needed."
Lovely big bed and lots of bedroom furniture. Struggled with the lounge heater but it wasnt a problem . Kitchen had everything and all utensils were spotless. Great coal/wood burner
Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you had everything you needed and found the cottage cosy. Sorry to hear you struggled with the lounge storage heater, since we have had the heaters upgraded they are not as straightforward to use but if you had contacted me, I am sure we could have resolved it. "We loved being at Harber Scar."
Homemade flapjack and a bottle was waiting for us on arrival in this immaculate cottage. Everything was straightforward and easy; no long lists of dos and don'ts. The kitchen/ dining area was cosy but easily manageable for 4 adults and 2 dogs. The lounge is well presented and large. We had some occasional fires but the storage heaters kept the place toasty warm. There were people in one of the adjacent cottages but we didn't hear a peep. Everyone slept well so the beds get the thumbs up. Horton in Ribblesdale is perfect for walking the Dales (we managed all 3 peaks, but on separate days) and Settle is close enough for buying food and a pub meal. Parking was fine. We had one car outside the cottage and the other a short walk over the bridge. The Crown pub opposite is undergoing some changes and is for sale (a snip if you are in the market!) and we just popped in for a drink or two. The Station Inn at Ribblehead was a great find - expensive, but superb beer and the loaded fries were great value and very tasty. We definitely recommend this cottage without reservation.
Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you loved your stay at Harber Scar and hope to be able to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"A lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful location."
The cottage was comfortable, warm and brilliant (wood burner on when we arrived) and had everything you need for a fabulous stay in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale's. Lots of amazing places all within easy reach. The 3 peaks obviously, Pen Y Gent from the doorstep. Even the lane immediately right from the doorstep is lovely. Hawes 30 to 40 min drive away, Malham cove 20 mins or so. The Ingleton waterfalls 20 mins. Everywhere you drive, walk, look is beautiful....a very special place. Local shops in Settle not too far (as no food shops within Horton) but there was tasty flap Jack's, milk and prosseco on arrival! We didn't go in pub opposite, following looking at the reviews on trip advisor. : ) But my 8 year old neice found them hilarious. ("Only locals allowed in one area!") We didn't mind as had such a lovely cottage and plenty of lovely places to go. No signal for phones in cottage, but WiFi works fine. However quite like going to places with no phone signal! Highly reccomend this cottage. Look forward to coming back and finding more beautiful places to go. Thank you
Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely to welcome you back to Harber Scar. We are pleased to hear you found the cottage comfortable and warm on arrival and the wood burner does make the cottage cosy at this time of year. Property Owner

"We really enjoyed our stay at Harber Scar cottage."
It had bags of character, was very well equipped and the fire was so cosy.
Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased to hear you really enjoyed your stay at Harber Scar and found the cottage had lots of character and the multi fuel stove made the cottage cosy. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"We had a lovely stay at Harber Scar, the cottage did not disappoint."
We particularly appreciated that the multi fuel burner was already on when we arrived, on what turned out to be a cold clear and frosty night. It was like getting a big hug when we walked in. The cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable and we felt quite at home. The kitchen was well equipped, fuel for the fire was provided and the owner left homemade flapjacks and wine which was very thoughtful. We were there for a ling weekend but could have happily stayed longer.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you had a lovely stay at Harber Scar and appreciated the greeting from the multi fuel stove on arrival. Real fires do take some beating once the weather takes a turn for winter. We note you would have happily stayed longer than the weekend break you had booked and hope to be able to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"Absolutely lovely cottage."
Very warm and welcoming treats. The owner has thought of everything you would need including towels n bowls n treats for the dog. The garden is a perfect size for a dog to play in. We were so comfortable and felt at home. TV, books etc all very good. Perfectly formed for a base for walking.
Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased to hear you found the cottage a perfectly formed base for your walking break. We hope to welcome you back to Harber Scar in the future. Property Owner

"We spent just 4 nights here during a wet and cold week at the end of October."
The cottage was lovely, warm, spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything you needed. The most delicious flapjacks were on the kitchen worktop on our arrival and a bottle of fresh milk and Prosecco in the fridge. (Thank you) The Woodburner was most welcome also after our wet days in the beautiful dales. A very lovely break, in a beautiful old cottage surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback. We hope to welcome you back to Harber Scar in the future. Property Owner

"We had a great stay at Harber Scar."
The cottage is cosy, beds were really comfortable and we enjoyed our breakfast outside in the shared garden at the back. We were welcomed with lovely flapjacks and some biscuits for the dogs which were very much appreciated. Harber Scar is in the perfect location for doing 1,2 or all 3 of the Yorkshire Peaks. It is also just a short walk to the train station. Settle is a short drive away for a selection of shops. There are 2 pubs in the village which we didn't make it to, as the comfy sofas and log burner were much more appealing after our long walk! We would definitely recommend.
Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased to hear you had a great stay and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"Really cosy & traditional cottage which we all enjoyed - a brilliant location for accessing the Lakes and the Dales, and the train station for the Settle-Carlisle railway line is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage - thoroughly recommended."
Loved the fire in the lounge at night, very cosy and relaxing. Very comfy beds too! A shame about the grumpy pub owner at The Crown who was very unwelcoming- the sooner a new owner is found, the better, as it’s wonderful to have a pub so close! It would be such an asset to the cottage. We had to sit out in the dark and cold with our drinks (as he wouldn’t allow us in with a dog). Thank you for a very pleasant stay! xx
Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased to hear you found the cottage cosy and relaxing and a brilliant location for accessing the Dales and Lakes. I'm sorry to hear you found the pub unwelcoming because as you say it is ideally located for the cottage. We hope to welcome you back to Harber Scar in the future. Property Owner
-
"Everything we needed in the cottage and very comfy."
Even though weather mixed still able to sit outside when dry and listen/watch the brook flowing past. We had a problem with the kettle stopping working, a message to the owner and a new kettle brought within the hour. Loved the flapjacks. Hopefully we will be back to explore more of the area.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you found the cottage very comfy and had everything you needed. We do seem to be having a spell of very mixed weather at the moment but glad you managed to make the best of it. We hope to welcome you back to Harber Scar to explore more of the Dales in the future. "Lovely comfortable cottage with lots of character."
Ideal location for our memorial three peaks challenge apart from the grumpy pub person.
Thank you for your feedback. I was very sorry to hear the reason for your Three Peaks memorial challenge. However we are pleased to hear Harber Scar was the ideal location to start your walk from and that you had a successful event. Property Owner

"The cottage is perfect."
It is so warm, homey and inviting. The hosts had thought of everything. It really was a home from home. The treats on arrival were lovely. The location is beautiful and an ideal base for walking. We are already planning our next trip there.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear Harber Scar felt like home from home. We look forward to welcoming you back to Horton in Ribblesdale. Property Owner

"Great cottage, very well equipped."
The cottage is very dog friendly and was ideal for taking my two Setters out early morning and last thing. I was a bit wary of the pub’s proximity and also tales of landlords unfriendliness but this proved unwarranted. Yes the front of the pub was busy over the weekend but only for a couple of hours as walkers came back from the hills for a pint or two. The pub landlord I found pleasant and parking my car was not an issue, but with all the great walks surrounding the cottage it stayed parked all week in front of the cottage . How refreshing to arrive at a cottage that didn’t make me feel I had to spend my last day cleaning it from top to bottom, after reading the note that said “It’s your holiday, but there are cleaning things available if you want them” I hope I left it in a reasonable condition! Thank you to Helen for her friendly help .
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Harber Scar and found it ideally placed for taking the dogs out directly from the door first thing in the morning and at night, the cottage is situated on the Pennine Way, with the footpath passing through the car park. We hope to welcome you back to the cottage in the future. Property Owner
-
"We had a lovely stay and used Harber Scar as a base to explore the Dales."
We arrived to find home made flapjacks, a bottle of bubbles in the fridge and some milk which was really thoughtful. The cottage was well equipped for us to self cater. The pub opposite had a nice vibe but was very quiet in the evenings so not intrusive at all. We enjoyed swimming in the river just round the corner over the bridge. We are very likely to come back again next year!!
Thank you for your feedback. We were pleased to hear you had a lovely stay and found Harber Scar a good base to explore the Dales. I know when we chatted you had found a few local spots that were ideal for wild swimming. We hope to welcome you all back to Horton next year. Property Owner

"Our second lovely holiday in Harbar Scar."
The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. It’s an ideal location for exploring the Dales and Lake District. Beautiful walks snd rivers on your doorstep too. Can’t wait to come back.
Thank you for your feedback . It was good to welcome you back to Harber Scar and hear some of the places you visited whilst using Horton in Ribblesdale as a base to explore. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Property Owner

"The cottage is lovely and comfortable."
Extra touches on arrival were much appreciated. Our dogs enjoyed the garden. On the path to Pen-y-Ghent so can be busy at times, and pub landlord opposite is very precious about parking spaces on land between pub and cottage. Must adhere therefore to one car only rule, despite existence of large car park behind pub. Otherwise a lovely location and ideal for exploring this lovely area.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you found Harber Scar lovely and an ideal base to explore the area. With regard to the car parking outside the cottage eloquently put. Property Owner
-
"Excellent location for both the Three Peaks and many other wonderful walks for all abilities."

"A very nice comfortable cottage in a good location for walking and cycling."
There was a warm welcome and the place was really clean. Only communicated with the owner by telephone but she was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely stay again. It may be worth noting that the Crown Inn next to the cottage does not allow dogs in however the Golden Lion a few minutes walk away does.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Harber Scar. We are pleased to hear you would definitely stay again and hope to welcome you back to the cottage in the future. Property Owner

"Very pleased with the property."
I booked it on the last minute and the price was very competitive. Its in a great location with lovely views from the cottage. The cottage is full of character and spotlessly clean. All the equipment is of a good standard, with a decent kitchen. The lounge has a multi fuel burner which adds to the character. The owner left us some goodies for our arrival, which was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. I found the owner pleasant, although we had no problems, so contact was minimal. The location is great for touring the area, with Settle only a 10 minute drive. The town has all the necessary shops to get your supplies. There's nothing negative I can say about this property, and would strongly recommend it.
Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Harber Scar. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"This is a lovely cottage, really warm and cosy."
Everything was very clean and tidy. The owner was very helpful and friendly and even makes meals for you if you ask her, they are delicious. The cottage is in a great location if you like walking, and if not the railway station is only five minutes away and there are lots of nice places to visit like Settle. We were lucky enough to have good weather in December but it would be good even in bad weather as it is a great place to hole up and read. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and the evening meal I delivered to the cottage on the Sunday evening for your party. Property Owner
-
"Lovely cottage, perfect spot, everything you need to explore an absolutely beautiful part of the country."

"Harber Scar is a lively little cottage in a gorgeous location."
It is equipped with everything you will need for a week's stay. All interactions with the owner were very pleasant. We would definitely stay here again.
-
"Harber Scar is a fantastic cottage in a superb location."
The host made us feel very welcome with a plate of of delicious homemade flapjack. The visitors book includes helpful information and walking routes, which were great. One of the things our teenage kids wanted was good WiFi, this cottage has that, which helped them to relax too.
-
"A very cosy well appointed cottage in a most stunning area."
The welcome gifts provided were an added bonus and most appreciated. Our stay was very comfortable and given the amazing weather we were able to enjoy the great walking opportunities close by and further away - Pen y Ghent was one of the highlights - and then come back to relax in the lovely garden by the river. The garden was ideal for our dog who enjoyed lazing in it too! We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone thinking of visiting the area.
-
"Gorgeous cottage in the centre of a bustling Dales village."
Lots of lovely walks straight from the doorstep. Parking a little tricky as none allocated to cottage, so with 2 very small children was a little awkward at times. But landlord allowed us to park in car park behind pub when there was none available. Just a slight point to note for people with children and dogs, the garden gate in the back garden has no latch or fixings, so swings freely straight onto the road/bridge although it looks closed! Otherwise a really lovely, well kitted out cottage.
-
"My son made his own way there and on arrival we were met by the landlord of the Crown stating we were only allowed one car parking space."
My son had to park a good way away but the space next to ours was not used until late monday. The landlord was very short with another walker only asking if the pub was open. We therefore didn't give him any of our custom. Otherwise we had a great week.
-
"Fabulous cottage in the heart of the Dales."
The cottage has so much character and was perfect for our family of four with two children. It was a lovely surprise when we arrived and there was a bottle of prosecco, freshly made biscuits and the fire was lit! The cottage was immaculate, beds very comfy and all of the amenities were exactly what we needed for the week. The location of the cottage is fantastic for exploring the area and there were some days we didn't even use the car as there are so many walks to enjoy from the cottage. Lovely little garden with a stream at the bottom too. I would definitely recommend Harber Scar if you are looking for a traditional cottage in the heart of the Dales.
-
"Because of the pandemic we had to change our dates."
This was made easy for us to do. Cottage was really lovely and exceeded our expectations.
-
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful location."
Cottage was warm and welcoming with flapjack, milk, tea, coffee and Prosecco ready and waiting for us
-
"This is a lovely cosy cottage, ideal for walkers, very dog friendly."
After a day out it's great to relax in the lovely lounge with the wood burning stove. The garden is great with a babbling brook right at the bottom, it would be lovely to sit out on a warm evening. We will be back.
-
"Cottage was lovely, clean and as expected from the pictures."
Little extras were appreciated (homemade flap jack and Prosecco) pub 14 steps from the front door and landlord was happy for us to take our beers back to the cottage if we wanted to. Very handy for the 3 peaks
-

-
"Great location for exploring the local area, lovely cottage!"
-
"Warm welcome on arrival with flapjacks and dog biscuits The cottage was lovely and so well equipped."
Location was excellent for walking and waterfalls. The Crown pub opposite served great food. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
-
"We were pleased with the cottage."
It is comfortable, conveniently located and well equipped. Our only criticism is that the cottage is a little dark, but there is nothing that can be done, it is just the way it was built. We would be happy to return if we were staying in the area again. (Perhaps the landlord of the Crown could be changed)
-
"Lovely cottage."
Credit to the owners. Very comfortable despite the weather. We will definitely be returning
-
"Its the fith time I have been to Harber Scar."
I just love this cottage and the area it is in. It has everything you need and it was spotless when we arrived. My friends had not been before and loved it as much as I did. Nothing is too much trouble if you contact the owner. Would recomend it and we will be back again !!! Just love it and it feels like "Home"
-
"Excellent location, warm and inviting, everything provided that you might need for a weekend break or longer."
The lovely small touches such as milk, tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc provided, along with the very welcome and mouthwatering flapjack. We took our dog so the towel and bowl awaiting him was again a nice touch. Definitely would recommend to friends and return again, thank you Helen.
-
"The cottage was very clean and spacious."
The owner left delicious homemade flapjack for our arrival which was nice. The cottage was in a great location with parking available. A lovely secure garden if you have your dog with you. We were really pleased with the cottage and would return again.
-
"The cottage was lovely - very comfortable, well-equipped, and cosy."
The owner called soon after our arrival to check everything was OK and whether we needed anything (and to make sure that the fire was still lit, after her setting it going at lunchtime!). The setting was very quiet, despite being opposite the pub, and the whole weekend was very relaxing.
-
"A very nice cosy cottage with everything you need ."
A lovely personal touch is the the homemade cakes & milk . All in all a beautiful experience .
-
"A fabulous cottage in an ideal location for exploring the area."
very comfortable and well equipped.
-
"Cottage was just right and was like being at home."
Lots of small extras that made a difference such as cakes and milk, dog towel, coal etc. Made things so much easier than other places we have stayed. The fire was already let when we arrived. Very welcoming. Didn’t need time to sort things out and settle in we just walked in the door, made a drink and sat in front of the fire.
-
"This was our fourth time at Harber Scar Horton in Riblesdale, Yorkshire Dales."
The cottage as all ways was clean, warm and welcoming with the lovley touch of a bottle of milk and five flap jacks for the humans plus a towel with two dog biscuits for a treat for our two dogs and to clean their muddy paws. We love this cottage and the area and it has never let us down. We will be visiting again next May, it is well worth visiting and I am sure you will go many times as we do
-
"A stunning property in a stunning location, it might be worth mentioning that ..."
A stunning property in a stunning location, it might be worth mentioning that the cottage backs onto a pub car park which can get a little noisy at the weekend, also there is a lot of the local quarry’s lorries pass through the village other than that, a really wonderful break
-
"The location was excellent."
We were able to use the cottage as our base and drove out to the neighbouring towns/villages. Beautiful cottage and beautiful surroundings. The cottage had all the facilities that one would expect. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were welcomed with fruit cakes on the table. There was milk in the fridge . It was really thoughtful of the landlady to make sure we had milk for our tea when we arrived. Will definitely recommend Harber Scar to friends and relatives.
-
"The tea coffee and milk plus cake that was there on arrival was a lovely touch."
-
"I had to make adjustments to our booking and the staff were prompt and very helpful."
-
"The cottage was a lovely place to come back to after a day of sightseeing, comfortable, clean, and very well equipped."
the personal touch of a pint of milk so we could have a cup of tea on arrival to go with the homemade flapjacks that were left for us was a very thoughtful touch and much appreciated. will definitely come back
-
"Such a lovely welcoming cottage ideal location for the 3 Yorkshire peaks."
The crown pub just a few steps away but very quiet so no noise. Beds where extremely comfortable which enabled us all to sleep well.
-
"Perfect spot for our Yorkshire 3 peaks trip."
Very comfortable with everything you need provided. Opposite the pub. Tricky to get a space in the car park sometimes but it was a busy bank holiday weekend. Lovely cottage, we hope to return one day.
-
"This is the third time at the cottage as we love everything about it."

"This was our second stay at Harber Scar and we loved it as much as we did the first time."
great location, everything we needed and very warm and cosey. Lovely , clean and welcoming with a fire all ready made. The cookies and pint of milk was great. Last time we had muffins and everything was tasty and such a thoughtful touch. We had extra family with us this time who also loved it and they are thinking of booking it sometime for them selves. We will definatley be back, it felt like coming home!! We loved it.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage with everything you need for a home from home."
Great location for walking & visiting the lovely Dales towns. The Crown Hotel, opposite Harber Scar, doesn't allow dogs in the bar which rules it out of evening meals (leaving dogs in cottage alone not permitted) but the Golden Lion, 5 minutes walk down the road, welcomed them (beware of Saturday evenings though- bar will be packed with walkers & their kit until @8pm!!). I think the only downside were the huge quarry lorries that thunder past the cottage from @5.45am but they were noisiest in the two front(?) bedrooms.
-
"Fantastic base for exploring the Three Peaks."
Cottage was clean and welcoming with a lovely log fire for the wetter and colder evenings. Surrounding scenery was beautiful and plenty to do for anyone that loves the outdoors. The kids loved playing in the stream although getting to it was tricky with the speed some cars came round the corners and over the bridges.
