  • "This is a lovely cottage in a great area and I will definitely come again."

So many lovely walks nearby and very quiet. Very comfortable and nice neighbours. It was also dog friendly but the small pleasant sitting out area is not very secure for a lively dog who might get out and chase the neighbouring chickens. There's a wonderful back garden but you do have to walk round to it. Thank you to Ute who looks after the cottage and is there when needed.

The location is beautiful and the house is homely and comfortable. The host was very welcoming and generous, she made sure we had everything we needed and gave us some homemade jam to take home. We would love to come back again!

  • "We had a fabulous three night stat at Barn Cottage."

The location is a hidden gem, very quiet and pretty yer year to attractions, towns, walks and facilities. The cottage itself is cosy and clean. We cooked in the kitchen which had everything you would need to make an array of meals and the wood burner was cosy of an evening. Dog friendly and we also had a four year old who loved playing with the Lego in the games cupboard. The living space is cosy but this wasn't a problem for us and the bedrooms were good sizes. Utes homemade plum jam also delicious! Would definitely go back and recommend.

Lovely to hear that you enjoyed the peace and quiet of Ireby. Hope to welcome you back sometime. Property Owner

Very comfortable and cosy with all the furnishings, kitchenware etc. needed for a very enjoyable stay. Ireby village itself is very pleasant and well-located for exploring the Dales and the Lake District. Good shopping in Kirkby Lonsdale just a few minutes-drive away, with the bright lights of Ingleton as close. Great and unobtrusive help from Ute (vielen dank). Would certainly recommend.

  • "Barn Cottage is very lovely, well maintained and well equipped with most items that you would find in a kitchen."

Could benefit from having a small freezer as the one in the fridge was a bit small especially for a family of 4. My only issue and it is only very small, was that behind the beds headboards was quite a collection of cobwebs and spiders. The neighbours are very friendly and if you’re looking for something quite this is a perfect location.

Thanks for your feedback. A freezer is something we could consider and put it in the garage. As most people are only with us for a few days they are not using the freezer much, but in this weather more room for ice cream storage would be useful. Apologies for the spiders, one of the few downsides of living in a rural location. Ute will be tracking them down... Look forward to welcoming you back to Barn Cottage in the future. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is small but very nice."

We went when it had snowed and on arrival found a window was open upstairs so it was extremely cold. We read the book and put on the wood burner but weren’t sure about the valves. We found it smoky. Also the burner did not spread to the radiators Uke told us it never gets hot enough for the radiators. This is misleading and should be changed in the book. There were 3 storage heaters, but the front door and front window were draughty. We had to wrap up in blankets and scarves to watch tv and put hot water bottles in the beds and cover them with blankets we found under the beds. If we come again it will be in the summer. There was a known plumbing problem. There was a blockage which cleared whilst we were there but we couldn’t drink the water from the kitchen tap. It came out white. Luckily the host had left us bottled water so we had to use that. We only stayed 2 nights so we managed.

Thanks for the review. There are a few levers on the woodburner to adjust the air flow etc. It is possible I suppose to set them wrong and get smoke in the room. If that happens, close the door and adjust it until it behaves. Yes, the plumber came out and fixed a worn out valve in for the cold water tank. We try to maintain the cottage to the highest standard and only employ expensive plumbers :-) Property Owner

The accommodation was comfortable and warm. All told we had a great week and the weather was super kind to us. The kitchen was well kitted out with equipment; a couple of suggestions however: some worktop protectors would be helpful as we had to improvise, and there was no oven grill pan (only the rack) which made grilling anything very difficult. Nonetheless we cooked some very nice meals ! Would we recommend the accommodation, absolutely ! What a magnificent

  • "I loved the cottage, the location and very helpful owner."

It was lovely and quiet, exactly how I wanted it. The only missing part for me personally was a very small paved back garden, only because my dog is used to do the business in the morning in our large grassed back garden. However the fields around us were massive and it wasn't a big issue.

Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of Ireby. Yes, the rear courtyard is small, but as you say the cottage is surrounded by fields and you can be out on the open fells in a couple of minutes! There isa also a fully enclosed (but separate from the house) garden for dogs/children to run around in. Hope to see you again in the future, to recharge your batteries with the peace and fresh air magic that is Ireby :-) Property Owner

Very friendly greeting with comprehensive orientation of house and surrounding area. Although it is listed as 2 double bedrooms and 1 bunk bedroom (ie: 4 adults and two children) the sitting room was cramped for 4 adults with only the 2 small two seater sofas.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of Ireby. We totally agree that the cottage does not work for 6 people. The upstairs is bigger than the downstairs due to the garage. Following your visit we have swopped the bunk beds for a new single bed in the 3rd bedroom, to reduce the maximum to 5 guests, but as we say in our description it is really set up for to be comfortable for a maximum of 4 adults. Hope to see you again sometime to enjoy the tranquillity of Ireby. Property Owner

Ute was very welcoming and helpful and kindly left us biscuits for the dog, delicious rhubarb jelly and brought round some fresh home grown herbs. Thank you for a lovely week.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the location - we are so lucky to have direct access on to Ireby Fell and the whole Yorkshire Dales beyond from our door. With 4 adults and 2 adult sized children the cottage would have been very cosy! We have reduced the capacity to 5 since your visit, but as we say in our description it is really set up for to be comfortable for a maximum of 4 adults.
