  • "Larch House is ideal for a family attending a wedding at Longacre Barn with enough space to accommodate a mixed-age party comfortably."

It's also a few meters away from the excellent White Horse pub. However, sadly it lacked a few surprising basics that you would normally expect to find. There was not enough toilet paper to last our 3-night stay and no shop in the village to replenish. The salt and pepper was empty and there was no cooking oil. There was no hand soap or shower gel in both bathrooms and no basic first aid box in the house.

Hello, we do hope you had a good time at the wedding in Longacre. We are really disappointed to hear about the basics supplies lacking. We will follow up with our concierge company as that is not good enough for a stay in our lovely home. I do hope you would consider coming again! Property Owner

  • "Beautiful house with everything you could require for a short stay ."

It is quite remote regarding location but about 20 mins drive from the nearest facilities ie eating, shopping. It does sleep 8 comfortably but general seating area in lounge is smaller than picture shows. There is a pub nearby but unfortunately doesn't open Monday & Tuesday and closes at 5 on a Sunday. please don't order a delivery meal as we were charged an extra 10pds on delivery due to remote location. Overall a lovely break away.

  • "We had a family get together at Larch house with 8 adults and one baby, everyone had a splendid time."

The house is well situated with everything either a short walk or drive away, the pub in the village was very welcoming and had an excellent menu. The house itself is superbly appointed and does not feel like a holiday rental at all, everything was hassle free even the EV charger worked well. We would heartily recommend to anyone looking for this type of house

Sorry for the late response but we are so glad you enjoyed your stay in our lovely home! And thank you for the positive review! We hope you consider coming to stay again! Property Owner

  • "Good accommodation, very clean and spacious and the kitchen was very well equipped."

The downstairs rooms were quite cold when we arrived which was due to the fact that the thermostat for the kitchen area was set to 13C rather than the 18C stated in the manual, however it did achieve a more pleasant temperature by the Saturday morning once the room had reached the correct temperature. Prior to arriving, I contacted both Sykes cottages and the owner to enquire whether hair dryers were available at the cottage but didn’t get a response from either which was disappointing. We also found quite a few dog hairs on the sofas in the conservatory area and whilst we were aware that dogs are welcomed at the property I think it would be useful to ask renters not to allow their dogs onto the sofas. In general, the cottage was very comfortable, convenient for our Centre Parcs spa visit with lovely walks nearby. The local village pub and Millard cafe at Morland cafe are also excellent.

Dear Nicola, thank you for the positive feedback, although we are very sorry to hear about the sofa and the dog hairs. we pay extra for cleaning when dogs are staying at the property, so we are surprised, and will bring this up with the cleaning agency. WRT the hair dryer, we cant remember if we left a hair dryer or not, but unfortunately we never got your request, so couldn't respond. We are out of the country, so rely on Sykes to field such questions, and will bring this up with them. regards, Ian Property Owner

  • "A lovely house in a great location."

Very modern and clean with plenty of space. Everything you can think of was provided in the kitchen, the dining table was big enough to sit all of us. A cupboard full of games was a bonus, plus an extensive collection of books and dvd as well. The only negative was the sofa in the lounge, needs updating. However, with 7 of us, we mainly let the kids have the lounge while the 4 of us kept to the kitchen and the sofas overlooking the garden. I would recommend this house and if we stay in this area again Larch house would be our first choice

Many thanks for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The house exceeded all expectations!"

Large property that was spotless. Modern kitchen and appliances, yet the house had lots of character. Perfect for our family holiday, on which precious memories were created. Eco-friendly and there is a cosy pub just a couple of hundred yards away! Great communication from the owners and the heating issues that were mentioned in one or two of the early reviews have been resolved. We stayed in December and the house was always warm. I would thoroughly recommend!

Enjoyed our stay in this warm, comfortable house. Had everything we needed and more. Only a suggestion - would have been nice to have some Christmas decorations!

Dear Lorna. Thanks for your feedback. If we were not abroad, we would indeed have put some decorations up. Property Owner

  • "A good size modern property, with plenty of room to accommodate 8 people, furnished well and in a convenient location to explore the stunning area."

Our short stay was uncomfortable due to the same issue as highlighted by previous reviewer. The property was extremely cold and we were not able to increase the heating level, we did call for help, but situation didn’t improve. There was inadequate supply of logs, just two, as a starter pack. Whilst I understand the owners are new to letting out their home they will definitely need to resolve the heating for any future booking, in particular during the colder periods of the year. Customer reviews will not improve if this is not addressed quickly.

As the guest stated, we are very new to letting our home out, and the heating was not perfect. We have apologised personally for this mishap. The heating has now been rectified. We look forward to new guests finding our home warm and inviting, including a whole basket of logs on arrival. The owners Property Owner

  • "This property is presented well."

Very quiet location and well kept. However the property is heated via a heat pump and the thermostat is set really low. This means the house is cold. You can turn the thermostat up but by the time the heat pump works the new set temp comes on, so the house is constantly cold. We spent over £150 on wood for the fire in the living room. This was the only room in the house warm enough. We messaged both Sykes and the contact number in the house booklet but not reply to us raising the issue of the house temp. The home was really well maintained, modern and clean. Located in a quiet village with a small walk to the local pub. Our only issue was with the settings on the heating which has been fed back and the owners have acted upon. This was a really nice break for me and my family and would recommend for that quiet get away.

Dear guest, thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your kind comments about our home. This is the first time we have rented our home, and we are very sorry to hear you found the house cold. We admit, having never left our home for long periods, that we “got the heating wrong”. As you say, it uses a heat source pump and this is far more difficult to regulate than conventional gas or oil fired central heating. In retrospect, from your comments, we see now that the thermostat was also set too low. We have addressed both issues. The thermostat is now set to 22C throughout the house and it should be fully warm before any future guest arrives. With respect to the unanswered phone calls, we will investigate as we have no direct control over that aspect. Thank you for your feedback. We will contact you separately as a personal apology. Regards, the owners Property Owner

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
