Grange over sands had all the amenities needed and it's always a pleasure exploring the lake district. Until next time, thank you very much.

  • "The house has stunning views from upstairs windows, is in whisper quiet spot & you can see great starry night skies due to lack of street lighting."

Garden had sunny sitting areas. Good walks in both directions from house. The interior was comfortable but needs a bit of maintenance and an update. We cleaned a couple of interior windows as they had little handprints all over them. The kitchen was my only issue as the kettle needed replacing - the lid and filter were broken; jars needed tops cleaned, tap base & cutlery tray needed a clean & fridge had only had a quick wipe out. The oven shelves were a dreadful colour. 2 of the cups needed washing. Shame as the house rooms & garden are large & it could be a stunning property with some TLC.

  • "We had a wonderful week in Grange over Sands."

The house was a good base for exploring the area, had everything we needed and was very spacious. The beds were comfy and the shower was good. The gardens were beautiful and, as we had a heatwave while we were there, a lovely place to cool down after a hot day out and about. But if the weather had been bad, there was plenty of space to dry wet clothes and lots of books to read. Perhaps the kitchen could have been a bit better equipped with things like foil, clingfilm, microwave dishes and a few more casserole dishes for those of us who don't go out for meals, but that's me being fussy! The only drawback is that the house is up a hill at the end of a cul-de-sac and if you have a big car, turning round is difficult if there are cars in the neighbours drive - the only other option is to reverse down the road to the turning. We just parked at the bottom of the road and walked up instead - problem solved! I would happily stay there again.

  • "We've just had a lovely relaxing 7 day stay in your very comfortable home."

We loved the interesting garden and we would like to return in the summer to enjoy it to the full. The house itself was warm and cosy especially the woodburner in the evenings. Parking wasn't a problem for us even with 2 cars. We will definitely be booking again!

    Reviewed by Alan4.4Mar 2023

  • "Great only issues were that a couple of the windowblinds were tricky to use, I think they are ready for replacement."

The garden needed a tidy up, in particular the trees at the front to enable two cars to be parked without being scratched. As the cottage is at the top of an incline with overgrowth and walls along the side it is tricky to reverse out and down to road especially as other cars park across the road junction. When neighbours vehicles not present you are allowed to use their drive to turn round.

  • "On the whole an enjoyable stay."

Position was excellent. Views across the bay. Good access to grange itself. A couple of issues though 1. Toilet not flushing properly, possibly due to faulty float or ball cock 2. Extremely dirty frying pan. Quite unusable 3. No hair drier provide. 4. Cottage would have benefited from a dishwasher … could be sited next to washing machine with fridge sited near freezer.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. You did telephone regarding the toilet which we offered to fix that day but you declined. We have not indicated that we provide either a hairdryer or a dishwasher so feel it unfair to be marked down. The comment regarding the frying pan was noted and for which we apologise. I would have given it full marks if it wasn’t for the garden. We took our dog with us and unfortunately I couldn’t let her out unaccompanied , they really should go the extra mile and put a gate on the back , not only could my dog get out , but a neighbours dog a Rottweiler liked to come in and do it’s business on the lawn. Also as they don’t want dogs going upstairs , maybe a gate at the bottom of the stairs would be a good idea.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay as we try to provide a relaxing holiday. The garden is open at the front to allow for 2 cars to be parked side by side. It is not practical to enclose this area. We are sorry about the neighbour's dog which has not caused problems since your stay. Property Owner

There are no basics left so make sure you take milk, bread, coffee, salt, pepper etc there was a bottle of wine left - so win win!! Extremely comfortable bed and an amazing view of the sea from it!! We opened the blinds the minute we woke to soak it in. Had great days out at Grizdale looking for the sculptures and a visit to Holker Hall is a must, beautiful garden and cafe - both dog friendly but not the house. Great cheese shop in Cartmel too. Everywhere we went was so dog friendly which made holidaying with her so much easier.

  • "The house has a beautiful garden yet the interior is a bit run down e."

    G. bathroom bathtub cover seems to come off soon. It was impossible to find a wine glass and in general the kitchen is not very well equipped. You just have the feeling that all the things that are not wanted anymore - found a place in the house and are randomly accumulated. I would not recommend the house for a longer stay.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you found the interior to be run down, particularly as we refurbished the kitchen earlier this year. We always do our very best to ensure that Crossways is well-equipped for the comfort and convenience of all our guests, and we would like to mention that there is a lovely, new set of 6 wine glasses, 6 champagne glasses and more in the corner cupboard in the lounge. Additionally, we must point out that any items placed within the property are not in any way “randomly accumulated” as you have mentioned. Lastly, we would like to assure you that we take great pride in our property and the facilities we offer, and this is reflected in other reviews we receive. Property Owner

  • "The house was situated in a lovely position to be able to walk the full length of the lovely promenade."

The house was very comfortable and everything was as listed. The photos of the garden were a little deceptive as we had a toddler with us and thought from the photos that there was a bigger amount of grass available. However, it didn't spoil the holiday as there was a huge grass recreation field within 5 minutes. For adults, the 3 seating areas were lovely to enjoy the late afternoon sun. The parking area was very tight for the 2 cars and it would help immensely if a small wall at the front of the property was removed to allow reversing into the drive to be safer. There were lots of books and games available in the really comfortable lounge. It would be an improvement to have more matching mugs and an extra deep bowl for cereals as there were only 3 white mugs and 4 deep bowls for a house that's supposed to cater for 5. The other facilities in the kitchen area were excellent - the fridge, freezer, cooker and washing machine were all in excellent condition. There was lots of room available in the larder for storing dry goods. The beds upstairs were very comfortable and wardrobe space was much better than expected. The views from the upstairs windows were wonderful and the blinds with curtains were a brilliant addition. We were able to visit lots of attractions within 30 minutes and the shops in the town covered everything you would need. We didn't eat out so can't comment on local restaurants.

  • "A well situated cottage ."

It is outside Grange centre but the walk along the well kept promenade is a delight with the promise of several coffee shops in Grange itself. The cottage itself is very warm, clean and comfortable with most of our needs being met... a few more Pyrex type dishes would have been welcome. The garden is well kept with several places to sit in or out of the sun and with a wonderful view over Morecambe bay. The front bedrooms also have a great view. The car parking is good for one large car but it is a bit of a squeeze for two. I would recommend the cottage especially as it is a short drive to the South Lake District and a short distance away from several NationalTrust properties.

There was nothing about the house itself that caused any issues but some dedicated area for bike storage may have been useful. It was also quite difficult manoeuvring quite a large car out of the house driveway to get down the road, particularly when the driveways of adjoining houses were occupied. There were excellent views across Morecambe Bay towards Ingleborough and it was an excellent base to visit all the main sights of South Lakeland. We are from the Morecambe Bay Area originally and the know the area well. There are plenty of excellent cycle rides along quiet roads throughout the area which is how we spent most of our time.

Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house.
