  • "Unfortunately the cottage had a leak prior to our visit which left mould on the dining room wall and limited lighting When I formed the owners acted on this the day before our trip was due to end."

The placing of the cottage is ideal for exploring Grange, near the promenade for long leisurely dog walks.

We appreciate your feedback, thank you. As you are aware, due to the unfortunate leak situation Sykes offered you the option of a discount or cancellation/rebook and you accepted the discount prior to arrival. We did have our handyman check the property 2 days before your visit but unfortunately when you arrived you noticed some mould. Our handyman came over as soon as he was available (the next day) to bleach and clean the wall, which happened to be the day before your short stay ended. Pleased to hear you enjoyed the beautiful locality of our cottage and the lovely promenade for dog walking. The flat-roof leak will be fixed by mid-September, kind regards, Alice and Nick Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely but the only downside is that it wasn’t very clean."

Our dog dribbled some water on the kitchen floor which I wiped up with kitchen roll and the floor was really dirty. We had to clean the stairs up to the outside terrace which were fairly treacherous and we had to wipe the tables three times before they were clean. The garden was unusable as it was so overgrown but the was remedied on our last day. We went out for the day and couldn’t park our cars as the window cleaner had parked their van so we had to park on the very narrow road outside, couldn’t the window cleaner come when the cottage was empty? The dining table also had to be wiped before using. The cottage itself was lovely and the surroundings were gorgeous, it was lovely sat out on the terrace in the evenings, it was just a shame about the cleanliness.

Thank you for your feedback it is much appreciated. We have a professional cleaning company clean prior to each guest visit. Any cleaning concerns need to be raised through the cleaning company so that they can remedy any issue. They require photo image within 24 hours of arrival and they will address the issue. As owners we reach out to all guests via email prior to arrival to explain the process and ensure guest satisfaction. The outdoor terrace stairs are power washed and outdoor furniture cleaned several times a year. The garden furniture may need a quick wipe down as it is open to the elements. The windows are cleaned every couple of months and the cleaner does need access for 20 mins for his van and equipment, he schedules cleaning based on local weather etc. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your visit to our cottage and the surrounding area. Kind regards, Alice and Nick. Property Owner

very dissappointing when you have soent 5 hrs travelling. Also needed to clean 2 bedrooms and the upstairs Bathroom. All kitchen units were dirty and stains, stained glasses as well. All the rooms were dusty and general not cleaned well. I have taken images to show the owner if required in one of the bedrooms, as hairs and rubbish were left in the draws that I had to clean & further disinfect before I could place my clothes in there. Bathroom upstairs again I have images of the dirt & dust. This is a nice property, let down by the cleaning.

Couldn't secure a couple of the sash windows because locks were broken. Downstairs lounge window could be opened from outside and access made easy to cottage. Unfortunately they started digging up and resurfacing Cart Lane during our stay but we were out and about everyday so didn't cause too much inconvenience.

Thank you Barbara for your comments. Pleased to hear you enjoyed your week at Westmorland Cottage. Thank you for bringing the sash window locks to our attention. Our handyman has now secured and fixed the locks. Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

The facilities are good , the rooms spacious and the top patio is excellent for morning cups of tea and evening views across the sands. The shops are not close but are a pleasant walk away along the promenade. We have stayed at six different holiday cottages in the area over the years and this one was the best. And the weather was good.

  • "We shunned Spain for the sunnier Lake District."

We spent the hottest week of the summer in the coolest cottage in Grange over Sands. The cottage was everything we hoped for and more. Booking was easy and the owners were in touch before our journey with helpful advice and directions. The cottage was a delight. Beautifully set out and equipped. Kitchen and lounge were lovely. Everything we needed. The second fridge was a real bonus in the hot weather. Spotlessly clean, the bedrooms, linen and towels were first class. Wet room good for quick showers too. Hot water and pressure again excellent. We didn’t use the dishwasher although there is one in the kitchen. We travel light so were able to do a couple of washings in the machine which had clear instructions, quick eco wash which left the laundry almost dry. Came home with a clean case! Outside space was lovely, rooftop terrace was really good for drinks and eating and had brilliant views over the water. The railway line is near the house but we enjoyed seeing the infrequent trains pass by and it did not disturb in the least. Back garden secluded and was ideal for chilling, reading a book and setting up the disposable barbecues we brought with us. There is a brilliant butcher and baker shop in the village. The nearby train stations made it really easy for day trips and we hardly used the car at all but managed to visit several place and still be back for late lunch. We were prepared for a longer walk into Grange over Sands but it was much closer than we thought and we were there in 15 mins easily at a leisurely pace along the prom. Great views over the estuary from the promenade and the house. The neighbours were all friendly and said good morning which was nice. Very quiet at night which was also good for sleeping, which we did professionally. All in all a brilliant week. We’d love to come back in the future. And we got a really good price as we booked almost last minute! Thanks for a lovely break. Robert

Walking distance into grange. Lovely and clean all facilities supplied. Plenty of excellent cooking pots and pans although we did bring our own big mugs as I love a large cup of tea. Grange has enough facilities take you own tennis rackets etc and you can play for free down on the promenade after 4.30. We’ll located for access to Windermere, Grizedale forest. Just make sure you pre book any activities you want to do up front before you go as it’s very busy post covid. Excellent pub the pheasant in Allithwaite next village 2 mile away.
