  • "I wouldn’t say it’s private parking for 2 cars as we only managed to get our Mondeo in."

Glad though it did have private parking. A contact number for owners would have been good in the book as I found a car key in the cupboard when putting my groceries away. I did phone Sykes but got no answer so left it on the table with a note. Loved the amount of cupboards and big fridge freezer as you don’t want to constantly have to go to the shops so I give the kitchen a big 5 stars alone. We thought it was going to be really noisy with cattle market opposite but it wasn’t that bad.

  • "We had a fabulous week at Larimar."

It was so warm and homely. Clean, fresh and comfortable. Loved the scent in the living room! Slept really well. Also loved the jacuzzi bath and the sofas were so comfy! We stay in Kirkby Stephen every year and will definitely stay again. Although it's opposite the Auction Mart, it didn't bother us on the busy days. Great base for exploring. We will be back! Many thanks

  • "The cottage was well equipped with comfy beds (we slept well) and there was a much appreciated, welcome pack of biscuits and milk."

However it was not as described in the listing at the time of booking. Described as non-smoking with a TV in each bedroom. When we arrived there was an overwhelming stench of cigarettes coming from the living room. It was so bad that we had to buy air fresheners to try and mask the smell during our stay but even they weren't good enough. Also, there was only one TV in one bedroom (The listing has been amended since we complained to Sykes.) We would have chosen a different cottage if this one had been described correctly. Minor problems which the host needs to sort with their cleaners. There was a light coating of dust on all the window sills and there were cobwebs high up in most rooms but especially bad in the bathroom where there were also three spiders. After our first showers we noticed the water wasn't draining away so we pulled the plug to find a foot long tangle of hair and grease which we removed. There was also breadcrumbs in the knife and fork drawer. The main parts of the property were very clean in every other respect. With a little more attention to the details and the removal of cigarette stench this property would be great for any family.

Unfortunately, we had some previous guests who ignored the house rules and smoked in the property. Our cleaner did her best to remove the odour and to describe it as an overwhelming stench is gross exaggeration As for the TVs there is a large television in the living room and a smart TV in one of the bedrooms. If your main criteria for choosing a holiday cottage in this beautiful part of Cumbria is based on the number of televisions in the property then perhaps you’re better looking elsewhere. This cottage is a conversion from an old barn And there are nooks and crannies that will harbour spiders. I’m glad you had time to count them. We are sorry, the cottage did not live up to your expectations, but we believe our description is accurate, The cottage is always clean and maintained to a high standard, and your feedback is unfair and exaggerated . • "We have stayed in a few cottages in the area booked through Sykes and although this is a lovely cottage in a very good location there were a couple of problems we had."

Firstly, the living room and main bedroom stank of cigarettes, even though it’s a no smoking property. We have just got home and the smell is still lingering on all our clothes and luggage. Secondly, I think the mattress in the main bedroom was beyond repair, as we sunk to almost the bedframe. Luckily we had the second bedroom to use instead, but this wouldn’t have been possible if we were a larger group.

Unfortunately the previous guests smoked in the property which is absolutely not allowed . They had been there for ten days ,leaving the cottage in a very poor state. They only left on the morning that you arrived and the cleaner did her best to freshen and clean the cottage .We pride ourselves on the standard of cleanliness and previous feedback reflects this .We have complained to Sykes in the strongest terms about these guests but nothing has been done. We have checked both beds and mattresses and there is absolutely nothing wrong with either of them and previous guest have commented on how comfortable the beds are. Property Owner

  • "Very good position - few minutes from main road - either of two alleyways get you there."

Faraday Road can be busy with livestock transporters (Mart opposite) but not very often. Some of power points well hidden and could be difficult to use Loads of storage space - had to come back after we had left to get a container we left is a kitchen cupboard .

  • "We had an enjoyable time in Kirkby Stephen."

Everything was clean and comfortable and in a handy position for shops and eateries. The only disadvantage is there is no garden area. However, there is parking for 2 cars which is a bonus.
