  • "We had a wonderful week in this warm, comfortable, spacious cottage."

The views are stunning when the weather allows and we filled our week with walks, museums and other days out all within a short (and beautiful) drive. The personal touches from Chris really made it special and our kids loved building dens and playing in their huge bedroom! Highly recommended cottage for a family, it was very hard to leave.

  • "Really lovely cosy, clean and comfortable cottage with fantastic far reaching views!"

Very friendly owners Chris and David who respect your privacy and who generously provided lovely lemon cake and wine. Both excellent! The heating and hot water was very responsive when needed and we enjoyed the fire in the evenings. Whilst, not far from Settle and the slightly further Skipton, the cottage was blissfully peaceful even though it is set in a farming environment. Great location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, the forest of Bowland and locations for All Creatures Great and Small (yes we are fans!) Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and hope to return in the future!

  • "Cottage sadly didn't live up to expectations."

Owners were aware of a problem with central heating before our stay but hadn't fixed it. We didn't have enough hot water for a bath/shower, and were unable to regulate radiators and heated towel rails so it was either too hot, or we had to turn them off. In addition fridge didn't work properly either and we ended up having to throw food away which was a waste. Lovely views from front of cottage, but not at back! It was however very quiet, and spotlessly clean. A bit far from Settle. Unfortunately we didn't find the cottage easy to manage for anyone with mobility issues.

  • "The property owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful."

However they do not intrude and respect your privacy, you would not know they are there. The cake and wine on arrival was a nice surprise. Accommodation was very clean and tidy with everything you would need. Generous size bedrooms and living area. There was a whole driveway with large parking area just for the use of Moss Side Retreat. The holiday home is in a great location with short drive to all the attractions of the dales. To be so close to everything but still in a quiet setting out in the countryside was a bonus. The views from the cottage are stunning in every direction. We never got to use the log fire but it looked like it would be very cosy on a cold winter night. There is also full central heating provided. All in all very recommended and we will be back again sometime soon.

The house is comfortable, spotlessly clean and well-equipped. There are fantastic views south from the cottage and garden towards Pendle Hill. Thank you, Chris and David, for the very warm welcome and for making our stay so enjoyable. The children especially enjoyed their tractor ride. We would love to visit again.

Chris and David lovely hosts. Cottage immaculate. A peaceful Retreat with stunning views. Enjoyed and were very impressed by the hay meadow. David very knowledgable and effusive about the natural world, particularly Bowland's AONB which he set up. Great work! Lots of places to visit. Dined at The Plough one evening -excellent. Criticisms? Would have liked simpler heating arrangements, but we got by.

  • "A really nice cottage."

We had a lovely time. Chris and Dave are great hosts and the location is perfect. Bedrooms are good with super comfy beds! Unfortunately the driveway to the house is terrible- large potholes full of water. There’s some issue regarding ownership but surely a tonne bag of rubble could be arranged. The owners have a separate driveway, shame this couldn’t be extended. Always hard to give feedback without sounding negative! Suggestions for an already high standard: Somewhere for food storage (all cupboards are full) Draining rack for sink (a small fold away one maybe), the logs need to be cut smaller as hard to burn them and keep fire going, door mat in porch for wet feet, small DVD player as no Sky and only basic TV (even if guests bring their own DVD’s )

I found the level of comfort and facilities to be fantastic. Great comfy bed and excellent shower. There was a lovely welcome cake and fizz and the fire had been lit. The cottage is in an area with no uplighting so the stars were amazing at night and there is wild life all around. For a real get away this is a great retreat, yet not far from many things to see and do, not least spectacular walks. I recommend a stay!

The beds were fabulous and we had some great sleeps following our walking adventures. This is a good base with 15 minutes to Settle and 30 minutes to Skipton in the other direction. Views to Pendle Hill from the front and one of the Yorkshire peaks at the back. So lovely to rest in front of the log fire after a day's walking. The owners are next door and more than happy to help should you need help with anything. Lovely garden featuring a tree with bird feeders (nice to see tree sparrows there). The Plough pub (1.5 - 2.0 mile walk away) is excellent for food beer and friendly service - however the footpath running east from the cottage is hard to find. This is a shame as it makes a nice circular walk to the pub.

Views from the bedrooms and garden are stunning. The only negatives are the approach driveway full of bad potholes with no sign to indicate you are on the right road and the puzzling lack of any hanging space in the second bedroom. (I appreciate that the driveway is a shared access issue, but in rain it is difficult to negotiate and will only get worse.) The log burner is extremely efficient and we made good use of the very generous basket of excellent logs. Overall this is a charming and luxurious cottage and in the right weather we would love to have made use of the beautiful garden.

If you and your loved ones are seeking a beautifully-appointed property in one of the most picturesque locations within Yorkshire, look no further than Moss Side Retreat.

With its exceptional location, nestled between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland AONB, this self-catering accommodation is perfect for avid ramblers, families, friends and those alike to temporarily call home.

After parking up on the spacious forecourt, take in the unfettered views of the surroundings before heading into the open-plan living room, which has been designed with a touch of opulence.

The exposed beams ceilings are a striking element to the room, as is the woodburning stove set within an original stone-exposed fireplace, wonderfully showcasing the history of the property.

Light up the fire and flick through the channels of the TV at the end of a bracing day, before the chef of the group makes the most of the quality appliances that await them in the kitchen area.

Home-cooked meals and sociable moments can be relished at the sleek dining table, which is backed by a beautiful exposed stone wall, again offering a sense of the history of this home.

Take the staircase to find the master suite, elegantly decorated to create a relaxing and welcoming space, complete with a plush super-king-size bed and two single sofa beds, should you wish to bring any additional guests along, yet the pièce de résistance is the view of the countryside surroundings.

Concluding the interior is the king-size double bedroom, complete with quality linens and its own TV, perfect for those lazy mornings in bed.

At Moss Side Farm, the garden has been designed to be an extension of the house itself, where you can spend sunny afternoons gathered around the outdoor table, whilst younger guests of the group play freely and safely on the spacious lawn.

If you can tear yourself away from this heavenly oasis, venture into the centre of Wigglesworth where you will find the Plough Hotel & Restaurant or venture slightly further afield to Long Preston, where there is a traditional pub and a village shop.

Alternatively, make your way to the market town of Settle, where you will find a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool, whilst Skipton is home to even more amenities and an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market to explore.

Avid ramblers can don their walking boots and look forward to exploring the labyrinth of treks upon the Yorkshire Dales National Park with a variety of landscapes to enjoy, including rugged moorland, picturesque valleys and wooded areas, with the famous Three Peaks promising to be an interesting challenge.

Other landmarks that are well-worth a visit include the beautiful Stainforth Force, the White Scar Cave and the Clitheroe Castle Keep, whilst the Thornton Hall Country Park, Bolton Abbey and the Forbidden Corner all promise to be exceptional family-friendly days out.

With so much to look forward to secure your stay at Moss Side Retreat for a memorable holiday in Yorkshire.
