  • "A beautiful house in a lovely area."

Hot showers, comfy beds and a lovely lounge. Some comfortable outdoor seating would have been a welcome addition.

  • "No a great start when we arrived at 4."

20pm to find no key to access the property then had to ring Sykes Cottages to tell them - 45 minutes later we got access to the cottage. It wasn't ideal as our son suffers from IBD so gave him an extra worry that he had no access to toilet facilities. An instruction booklet would be a great idea as there are no instructions on how to work anything - heatmisers, oven, hob etc. There was also a loud humming noise right outside the bedrooms which was very annoying when the house was otherwise quiet and you are trying to sleep. One of the garden chairs is broken - luckily we saw this before sitting on it. Some comfier garden furniture and a parasol would be a good idea as it's such a lovely setting.

Hello Mrs Clarke and thank you for your feedback. I can only apologise again that the key wasn’t there for you on arrival however I didn’t bring it up less than 5 minutes after I received the call from Lakelovers. With regards to instruction manuals, it would be quite difficult to write down instructions for every single appliance without it being dozens of pages long however we will certainly look into and see how we could make it easier for guests. In relation to the noise, I can’t think what that could be as we have never had that complaint before but again, I will look into it. The table and chairs were all new this year very sorry that one of them was broken during there stay, however it has now been replaced. I hope this response is helpful and we would love to welcome you back in the future! Property Owner

  • "Lovely scenery and beautiful cottage set in a well maintained estate."

Fabulous private gated driveway! Cottage has modern heating facilities throughout with the underfloor heating in bathrooms feeling very luxurious. Unfortunately what let the place down was the horribly uncomfortable master bedroom mattress and upstairs living area sofas. The sofas were really uncomfortable to sit on and it wouldn’t take much to fix these issues with some better quality sofas and mattresses installed. Some other minor issues such as lights flickering and general paintwork could be improved. Also wasn’t a huge fan of the cleaning regime set out by your company- thought bed stripping and emptying bins would have been included in our rental fee.

Hello Mr Gordon and thank you for your feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay however I’m sorry to hear there were a few things you weren’t happy with. With regard to the mattress and sofas, we have never had a complaint regarding their comfort however we will look into it to see if anything can be improved. The light bulb is now fixed and although we decorate the whole house every year, we cannot re-decorate between guest stays so unfortunately there maybe be scuffs and marks from previous guests just as you would expect from a hotel. In response to your comment regarding our cleaning regime, with it being a self catering unit and not a hotel, you will find most places will ask the small courtesy of stripping your bed and taking the bin out. When you are only paying around £25 per person per night, we simply cannot afford to run it how you would expect a hotel room to run. I hope this response is helpful and would love to welcome you back again soon! Property Owner

  • "Firstly I would like to say we really enjoyed our stay the property was beautifully furnished with an impeccable taste and all bedding, towels etc were of excellent quality."

The good quality hand wash and toiletries were an additional touch which was appreciated. We enjoyed the snacks and tea/coffee etc which were left to welcome us. However we had a few issues when compared to our other holiday breaks in the uk; Their wasn’t a detailed welcome pack containing information/instructions for operating the central heating or for the fire in the sitting room. The water pressure in the showers is not very good. The main bathroom has no window blind and that is an issue as the window is not frosted. The kitchen did not have a long handled brush, dustpan &brush for general cleaning. The plinth under the kitchen units keeps falling when you open the dishwasher which was something we had to be careful with to avoid it falling on our toes. For some reason there were two greasy roasting tins in the cupboard and one chipped drinking glass. A mat at the entrance would mean we had somewhere to wipe our feet and the floor can be kept clean especially when faced with rainy weather. Lastly the WiFi connection was not very good. Just some points which if rectified would definitely give the property 5 stars.

  • "We had a wonderful stay and they sorted internet asap when we needed password."

A few suggestions would be a chopping board and some egg cups and maybe some foil. Greet location and couldn’t figure out the heating in rooms so maybe some guidance and a blind in the bathroom downstairs win win Thank you and we had a lovely stay

Where you’ll be staying

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
