It was wonderful. However, due to circumstances I could only stay for one night. The bedrooms were fantastic, extremely comfy beds, quality linens. One point would be to have had the heating on prior to our arrival. Also, a very basic welcome pack would be an advantage to provide maybe milk and sugar. I had read previous reviews and had noticed a thank you from previous guests for a welcome pack on arrival so presumed milk ect.. would have been provided. However, overall an enjoyable and restful stay.

The log burning stove is a real bonus and pleasure to sit round in the lovely lounge. Non-intrusive owners attached, who were a pleasure to meet and talk to. Lots of great walks. • "Lovely house in a beautiful and tranquil location."

Wonderful walks abound and the Queens Arms is a great pub but be sure to book. There was a generous and plentiful supply of logs and coal which made for cosy evenings by the fire. The only downside we encountered was the uncomfortable bed in the balcony room - the mattress was old and the springs around the edges had failed completely. There was a mattress topper but that didn't make a difference. As there were just the two us we were able to swap to the front bedroom which was excellent and very comfortable. The views from all the rooms are lovely and the front garden is a real suntrap.

Thank you for letting me know about the mattress. Lovely new one now in place. Property Owner

It was clean, warm, and comfortable, spacious and very well equipped. The furnishing and decoration was understated and tasteful, and we quickly felt at home. The welcome basket with wine, shortbread, coffee and tea was a nice touch; the feeling we had throughout was that the owners were doing their best to provide everything we could want. There was loads of hot water in showers with plenty of pressure, unlimited logs and coal for the cosy woodburner... I could go on, but you get the picture. The location for walking was excellent - we walked every day from the front door - and the provision of a stack of laminated routes from short strolls to massive challenges, with both descriptions and maps, made it really easy to select something suitable. Being less than a hundred yards from the friendly welcome of the Queens Arms was the icing on the cake - we ate there on Saturday and had a superb meal (both veggies and lamb pie fans); their award winning Bakewell tart is a thing of beauty. I don't generally gush like this, but I can't recommend this cottage enough.

  • "We have stayed in many lovely cottages over the last 20 years or so, and this is one of the very best: possibly the actual best."

The cottage has been expertly designed not just decorated: there is a clear style throughout the house, a careful mix of “traditional countryside” and “modern global”. Well chosen objects and artwork from other countries sit perfectly alongside the cottage features of stone walls, a wood burning stove, exposed beams. Both bathrooms are crisp and modern, balancing the rich fabrics of the bedrooms. Modern art and lighting fittings illuminate the rooms metaphorically as well as literally. This is a very harmonious place to stay: we left feeling aesthetically as well as physically relaxed and refreshed. It was also spotlessly clean and very well equipped: at last, a kitchen with some sharp knives! I can’t recommend here highly enough. Where’s the 6th star in the ratings?
