  • "The house is absolutely beautiful, it catered over and above for all our needs."

Each bedroom had its own en-suite, the beds were a dream, it was almost like staying in an hotel but it was all yours. We had the best time there despite the weather , I would most definitely recommend it, also the owners were at the end of the phone and couldn’t have been more helpful. So I say thank you very much for our stay at Eldon house

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay at this wonderful house. Plenty of room for our group allowing parents and grandchildren on one floor and grandparents on the next. The hot tub went down well after returning from walks. We also tried the Maypole for Sunday dinner and would recommend. From the moment I booked to checking out, the owners were on hand to answer any questions. Very clear information provided to get you started.

Perfect family gathering for 8 with plenty room for all. Station in the village made it a great opportunity for us all to go into Skipton. Booked dinner Saturday evening in the Maypole pub - lush meal, great value and a lovely welcome. The surrounding area was great to explore with a fantastic cheese shop just outside Settle, a lovely town with lots of individual shops and nice pubs. We had a great loop walk around the Ribblehead Viaduct on Sunday and the weather was superb all weekend. Fabulous!

  • "As a group of adults and young children, we found Eldon a great place for a weekend away."

The house is large enough for big groups without feeling on top of each other and the outdoor terrace and garden were perfect for our needs. Good location for exploring Skipton and Settle, nice pub a short walk away, and lots of parking at the house. However, the house in general could do with some TLC and a deep clean is definitely needed. The foisty smell hits as soon as you walk in. Lots of cobwebs, dust, paint and wallpaper chipped and marked etc. As many other reviews have said, the water pressure is not good (the toilets struggle to flush even toilet roll). The kitchen is ok - the oven took a long time to cook food and the provided pans and trays were old and definitely not non stick! Would recommend taking your own tea towels as only two were provided and they stunk! You’re asked to clean the oven, fridge, strip the beds and leave in separate piles with towels- bit much for a 10am check out. Never been told to do this at other stays. On the day of check out the cleaner arrived at 8.30 to clean the hot tub, the owner then arrived at 9am to ‘drop off supplies’. We’d read in other reviews that the cleaners turned up at 9.45 and let themselves in so we left before this. It is NOT acceptable for people to be entering before check out. Found the bond system strange- basically have to send £100 and it’s up to the owner if they send it back or not. Other reviews have had issues but ours was returned the next day after prompting. Over all had a great time, not sure we would recommend to friends due to issues above.

The house was lovely and the perfect base for walking, exploring the dales. All the rooms were nice and comfortable and we all slept well. The only slight downside was the water pressure, as all the rooms had en suites if we all had a shower at the same time it became a trickle. Didn’t detract from the lovely house and setting as we soon got used to showering at different times haha. Thanks for letting us use your lovely house.

We all had the best weekend stay at this lovely property. Everything you need for a break away. And we all had own bathrooms as most rooms had en-suites. We stayed in first night played games and the use of the hot tub was as an added perk for celebration and relaxation. It does state planning permission for the tub is 9pm which initially we were concerned with but actually it worked out absolutely fine. Another day we headed to skipton on the train (5mins walk from house, £5.80 return), and the final day we went for a lovely walk through the dales (using the Komoot app which suggested 5/6 walks of all different lengths and abilities from the village itself) We used the pub one night for a meal. A short walk from the property and the food was ok, did the job but not amazing. Nice staff but no music and not much atmosphere (although they did start to play some music for us after we asked and plus we were the only ones in the dining room haha). We would definitely consider staying at the Eldon country house again in the future.

A few minor issues experienced which were dealt with in a timely manner by the owner Cheryl. Great that all bedrooms had en suite bathrooms along with comfy beds and adequate storage. Well equipped kitchen, plus a bonus that cleaning products/ dishwasher tablets & washing up liquid included. Plenty of seating in the pleasant sitting room along with a decent sized dining table. Good selection of music & books The hot tub was ready to be used and was definitely a great addition. The exterior of the property (rendering) does require some maintenance but didn’t impact on our stay. Would benefit from updating the information book. Thank you to Cheryl for a great stay.

Having stayed the previous year we had no problem booking it again this year. The house is very spacious and easily accommodated 10 of us last year and 8 this year. Our disappointment at there being no Christmas decorations up was immediately addressed by the owners who came round and put up a tree and decorations which was really appreciated. • "A beautiful property in a nice location."

But unfortunately that is all that was positive about the experience. The listing was inaccurate, the property is semi detached (which is not mentioned on the listing) and neighbours came knocking on the doors and complained of noise. When mentioned to the owner we were told that this happens often and we shouldn't bother about it. The property was not clean, light switches were broken and we had to use the bed side lamp in our room. The water pressure was very poor with barely any water coming out from some taps in the top floors, the wifi did not work for most part of our stay and there were random items left about upon which a child tripped and hurt himself. The owner visited the premises the day before we were meant to leave without prior notice, and began cleaning the hot tub while we were there. The owners were also back again at the crack of dawn of the morning we were supposed to leave (i.e hours before we were required to leave) with linen etc. After vacating the property the owner was silent about the house keeping deposit. When we enquired about the deposit (more than 5 days later) the owner sent a list of issues including drain blockages (which cannot be caused over a four night stay) pictures of rubbish we had not left behind, and also included charges for the cleaner's fee. We have been to many places up and down the country before but never been through anything like this. Hence, unfortunately we cannot recommend this place to anyone that needs 'a holiday'. Please read reviews of this place on other sites like TripAdvisor too before booking (unfortunately we only saw these later). Despite all of this if you do book, please make sure you take pictures of everything as soon as you step in to the property or you may be accused of things you did not do. Thank you.

No towel rails in some of the bathrooms so drying towels is difficult. Drainage from the washbasin in at least one of the bathrooms painfully slow. We stayed three nights as a party of 10 for a friends big birthday. The property itself is very spacious and perfectly laid out to accommodate such a size group without it ever feeling over crowded. The bedrooms are beautifully presented and generously sized, each with good sized bathroom either en suite or next to the room. We did have some issues with low water pressure during our stay (meaning a cold wash for those showers running off the mains) however the two showers on the top floor were electric and worked a treat! There are also several rooms with baths as an alternative. It’s a big house in the country and I’m aware pressure can fluctuate so certainly not a huge issue for me but something to be aware of. The hot tub was bubbling away at a toasty 40c on our arrival and it was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day exploring! Booking was easy and no issues with bond return once the property was checked. The host was very responsive right from early booking enquiries through to us arriving back home. We definitely got the “wow” factor on arrival to Eldon Country, and whilst there are a few areas with signs of general wear and use, there was nothing significant enough to detract from the absolute beauty of the place! One of our guests is already planning her next stay… and I genuinely hope to get an invite!!

We stayed as a family of 10 (6 adults and 4 children) from Friday to Monday this week and had a brilliant time. The house ticks lots of boxes. To begin with there is a large drive with plenty of parking and a big garden, complete with hot tub. Inside the house is spacious, with 5 large bedrooms and plenty of hanging and storage space for clothes. Three of the rooms have en-suites and there are nicely decorated and roomy bathrooms, with a large bath on both floors, which is great when you have young children with you. The hallway, staircases and landings are wide and sweeping with quirky design features and wall decorations, which add an element of fun. The living room/dining room and kitchen are well appointed with plenty of space to all eat, cook and relax together without being so huge that they don’t feel homely. The kitchen is well equipped with a big modern range cooker, large fridge, microwave and slow cooker. The owner was in contact with me throughout and my housekeeping bond was returned promptly. Would highly recommend.

Sadly our trip was not as expected. When we first arrived it looks beautiful- and it is, mainly. However several of the radiators were broken and unsafe for children (I took photographic evidence and the owner recons I pulled the radiators apart for the photo!!). There was also broken window openers. We are taking this further as these are real health and safety issues. We were upset that on the photos it shows a log burner - but yet you're unable to use it. They recon that because they don't mention it in the description that's ok - but to me, that's clear false advertising and we are taking that further. The main issue however was the cleaner ... so you are asked to have all beds stripped and all towels downstairs by 9.45 - firstly this is wrong as check out is 10 so you shouldn't be asked to do anything before 10. However on day of departure cleaners arrived at 9.23 and forced their way in. Said they always arrive this time and will stand by the washing machine. We had to then stop them from going upstairs at 9.30 as we still had children getting changed. The owner messaged to say oops sorry they got a train - if that's the case they should still be instructed to wait outside the property till 10 if it is still occupied. We had to chase for the bond returning - she said she had been busy out shopping and not had chance which we felt was very unprofessional. We complained to Sykes and they are investigating. We did not report the issues during the stay as we read several reviews on trip advisor saying she does anything to not return bond. And her response to the radiators confirmed my reservations- I believe that if we had reported it she would have said we had done it and therefore not return bond! Such a shame as it has sooo much potential and is in a beautiful location.

We were a party of 10 having an early Christmas break. The accommodation was superb all the bedrooms were a good size, the lounge/ dining room was large enough to accommodate us all without feeling cramped. The hot tub was used each day by a few of the group and they found it excellent. Unfortunately during our stay we had a few issues with the water supplies however, I must add that this was not the fault of the property it was down to the Water authority carrying out work in the area. It in no way detracted from us having a good time. The owners had decorated the lounge with Christmas decorations which was nice and helped with the festive atmosphere this could have been enhanced with some lights on the Christmas tree which were sadly lacking. The kitchen was large enough to facilitate the preparation of food for 10 of us quite comfortably, the only criticism being the fridge freezer didn’t quite hold enough food for us all maybe a little freezer somewhere might assist. Overall the communication with the owners was excellent, there were plenty of instructions and guidance to help people settle into the house, we would definitely use the Eldon again and can highly recommend it. There's a pub 3 mins walk, small shop and there are many places to visit for walks in the beautiful countryside on your doorstep. The owners go out of their way to help when assistance is required. They also advised us of places to visit. Ideal break, away from it all in comfort.

  • "We booked our stay at this wonderful house through Sykes and the owners of the property were very friendly people, but we were concerned with the overwhelming contact by the owners both via text/calls and actually visiting of the property whilst we were there."

We were quite disappointed at the cleanliness of the property on arrival and feel there are considerable amounts of maintainance that should be addressed for future guests. I would recommend taking photographs of the property, as we did, on arrival, as we were accused at the end of our stay of damage to items that were already damaged on our arrival (we were then able to prove this).

It is very roomy and comfortable and the hot tub is a great way to unwind after walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside. One of the toilets broke on the first night causing a leak downstairs but to be fair to the owners they offered to come round straight away and attend to it. Also during our stay none of the TVs in the bedrooms worked and the plumbing was occasionally temperamental but nothing serious. They could also do with a handbook on arrival with instructions on operating everything from the TV, hot tub, appliances etc. All in all a great house and a great stay.

It is in a lovely village with two great pubs and close to lots of places to visit, we went on the railway, Settle to Carlisle which we enjoyed. I would have liked to have known more about the deposit situation and I didn't understand that having handed over 100 cash, I wouldn't get it back until the cleaner had finished on the Sunday and I was then texting my bank details to the owner. I chatted to her and this was all fine but it was a bit unprofessional and not really explained that well. The rooms are really lavish and everything is thought about. It makes you want to really look after the place when you are there. I found searching for properties on Sykes really easy and will definitely be looking to book again - if not the same house because we had such a good time. Perhaps in terms of self catering it would be good to know what is provided and what you have to provide yourself as every place is different. Thoroughly enjoyed by all - thanks a lot.

Tastefully designed for families or a group of friends, this spacious retreat is an exquisite choice for a memorable holiday experience, even featuring its very own hot tub.

A vestibule leads you inside, where you will be welcomed by a wonderful hallway, dividing off to a series of rooms.

The kitchen is a comfortable place to unwind, housing a wall-mounted TV, and a cosy window seat where you can rest whilst waiting for those home-cooked meals to heat up.

You will look forward to settling down in the lounge afterwards, perfect for dining with the whole family, and snuggling up on the sumptuous sofas with the French doors open.

The first set of stairs sweeps up to a family shower room, with three bedrooms situated on the second floor, two with en-suite and another with a dedicated bathroom on the landing.

As well as a lovely view over the garden towards the Dales, all rooms are glamorously presented, with a true feeling of luxury and ample storage space.

Leaving you spoilt for choice once more, the third floor is equally as elegant, with two further bedrooms; the first is elevated by open eaves, velux windows, and a chandelier, whilst the second comes as a twin formation with a zip/link option.

The exterior represents the cottages charm wholeheartedly; home to a large patio area with furniture and a lawned garden for an idyllic finish.

To the North, the landscape rises to the fells, moors and valleys of the Dales and to the South are the wetlands of the Ribble Valley which, in turn, sweep upward to the wilderness of Bowland.

The village benefits from several large, tree lined, village greens, with footpaths leading direct to the surrounding hills, and two excellent pubs with first class cuisine.

An impressive cottage in a fabulous location.
