  • "Great location for walking straight from the door."

Fantastic views and good sized accommodation. The outside of the cottage could do with a bit of attention as it sets an impression of arrival. The garden was overgrown and the paint on the front door faded and cracked. The driveway up to the cottage via three separate gates could do with some gravel or filling in. A normal car may struggle with ground clearance in places. Inside there is good accommodation and general cleanliness was good, although we did have to clean the oven and fridge on arrival before use. We also noted a lot of mouse droppings in the under sink cupboard, but it’s in the country so mice are to be expected! Similar to the outside, some of the inside was looking a little tired but nothing a lick of paint and a good dusting of the cobwebs in the skylights wouldn’t solve! We enjoyed our stay and the cottage was comfortable and warm and had everything we needed for the week.

The property

Is there a better location for a Lakeland cottage?

We doubt it.

Cherry Garth is set in a little piece of heaven.

At the end of a private lane, surrounded by panoramic views of the mountains and fells and with Brotherswater below, this property is completely and utterly glorious.

Hartsop Dodd, High Hartsop, Hart Crag, Fairfield and St. Sunday Cragg, the landscape is as old as time and yours to enjoy from first light to sunset. Hartsop, the setting for Cherry Garth, is an unspoilt hamlet in the Ullswater valley.

17th century buildings and houses make up what is now a small farming community.

There are traces of former industries such as milling, mining and spinning, which explains why many of the properties are Grade 2 listed and the village is protected by the National Trust.

The cottage itself has been stunningly updated.

The interior has been decorated in neutral tones, the furniture is modern and stylish, with stone and wooden floors in the living areas, and wall to wall carpets in the bedrooms.

Entry to the property is through the boot/drying room, leading to the welcoming sitting room with open fire, comfortable seating and magnificent view.

The large kitchen/dining room, dressed with granite and slate, is a wonderful space for family meals, planning walks and chatting over coffee.

More relaxed seating, an additional TV/DVD and radio docking station gives yet another option when deciding where to relax.

The utility room is separated from the kitchen and leads into the garden.

The first of the king size bedrooms is on the ground floor, complete with a wet room with monsoon shower.

Upstairs are two further rooms with king size beds, sharing a house bathroom with slipper bath.

Outside the property is plenty of parking as well as terrace and garden, lots of choice when it comes to deciding which view to admire.

Cherry Garth is simply stunning, and with such great views to enjoy, why even bother to leave the grounds?

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

Where you’ll be staying

HARTSOP

The delightful hamlet of Hartsop lies in the Patterdale valley. It has retained its historic image with charming 17th-century grey stone cottages and working sheep farms. Hartsop is right in the heart of the Lake District and in the midst of some of the finest walking country that the area has to offer. It is a popular starting point for hill walkers climbing on the High Street range and the Helvellyn range. The village is overlooked by Brock Crags and Hartsop Dodd. It is a great centre for touring to all parts of the area and would provide a pleasant place to unwind. Ullswater Lake is less than 3 miles away giving you access to sailing, kayaking, and lake cruises.
