  • "We have just returned from a wonderful week staying in Tennant Cottage."

The cottage is wonderfully private, set back from the road behind the stream and trees but yet perfectly centrally located to enjoy everything Malham has to offer. We stayed with our two little boys 4 and 6 who absolutely adored their walks up to the cove, passing the cows and paddling in the stream in front of it, as well as their walk to Janet’s Foss and looking for the fairy’s. We also travelled further afield, hiring a canal boat from Skipton for the day and visiting Skipton Castle, Fountains Abbey and Bolton Abbey. We also stayed on to visit Malham Show on the day we left, which is you do visit at this time of year is a must, especially for children as they’ll love seeing all the animal up close, watching the sheep dogs work, the dry stone wall builders and the show jumping. There is so much more to do locally as well as stunning walks. The cottage is both the perfect base and a wonderful retreat after you’ve worn those legs out. The beds are the most comfortable I’ve ever had in a holiday cottage and the kitchen is super well stocked with everything you need should you wish to cook. Although we highly recommend eating at The Lister Arms, especially their roast dinners! The owners live in the village and are wonderfully friendly and informative. We would definitely return to Tennant Cottage.

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Tennant Cottage."

The location was perfect – right in the centre of Malham yet set back from the main road in a quiet location behind mature trees. The back garden was fully enclosed and the owners had very thoughtfully provided a couple of pieces of trellis fencing for dog owners to use as a temporary barrier on the drive if needed. The cottage seemed larger than we imagined from the photographs, and the bed in the master bedroom was huge, although I found it a little too soft. Lovely clean bed linen and towels, a large bathroom, and plenty of cleaning products to keep things tidy during your stay. As with all old buildings it had its quirks like creaky upstairs floorboards and changing water pressure in the upstairs taps, but it all added to the character and overall we were extremely comfortable. The living room was cool and although the log fire was laid ready for us to use, we refused to light it because it was August! I do admit to putting the radiator on for half an hour though. I struggled a bit using the hob at first as the settings had rubbed off so it was guesswork as to whether it was on high or low, but I managed to cook decent bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs so all good in the end. I couldn’t reach the cord to raise or lower the kitchen blind (I’m 5’ 0”) but luckily my husband is considerably taller. The washer/dryer was useful for drying soggy clothes when we got caught out in the rain. Sadly we didn’t get chance to visit the village tea room which looked lovely, and we didn’t fancy eating at the Buck Inn, however we enjoyed meals at the Lister Arms, Malham (twice), The Victoria Inn, Kirkby Malham (twice), and the Talbot Arms, Settle. The 1 ¼ mile walk to Janet’s Foss was lovely although I didn’t make the last few steps up to see the waterfall because we went on a hot Sunday afternoon when it was heaving with visitors and I didn’t feel confident tackling the stones & tree roots whilst people were pushing past. We walked to Malham Cove but again I didn’t tackle the steps as there were too many people. We took a short drive to Malham Tarn carpark and then had a lovely flat and peaceful walk around there with the dog. A lovely week away in a comfortable cottage in a beautiful area.

A stone's throw from the stream that runs through the centre of Malham and near to 2 pubs, a coffee shop and a lovely walk to a fabulous Vegan Restaurant and Hotel. The Cottage had large comfortable rooms, plenty of equipment for cooking meals, infact everything that you could possibly need. We thoroughly enjoyed our week with our Dog, and hopefully will be back before not too long. Would thoroughly recommend.

Very peaceful, which is what we wanted, as our dog is petrified of fireworks. The owners had kindly gifted us wine, biscuits and milk, and we had all of the provisions (eg tea, coffee, condiments, cleaning products, etc) we needed for the week. Unfortunately, the garden isn't enclosed, so we had to keep our dog on a lead when outdoors. The overall cleanliness could be improved, and the ceiling and grouting in the bathroom needs attention.

The cottage itself could not be better, spacious, exceptional location, very well equipt, a home from home. My partner and I, and our dog cannot wait to return! We had a slightly bizarre experience in booking the cottage back in December, we booked via a different website and paid what we thought was the balance, transpired this was just a booking fee. We then received several phone calls from Sykes informing us that we needed to pay the balance via phone, this seemed odd and we were cautious, we thought we had booked via the original website. However we went ahead (as we would have lost the booking fee) and everything from that point was smooth sailing. Sykes should work with the original booking company (they know who they are) to make this experience smoother for future customers. All in all though, a super holiday thanks to fantastic hosts and accommodation.

About the location

MALHAM

Settle 7 miles; Skipton 12 miles.

Situated at the head of Malhamdale amidst superb open limestone countryside, the picturesque village of Malham is a magnet for visitors to the Dales who come to see one of Britain's most impressive natural features - Malham Cove. The Cove consists of a natural cavern or 'amphitheatre' of limestone rock stretching 75 metres in height and 300 metres around the perimeter. A steep walk up man-made steps is rewarded with a superb view across moors and limestone pavements to Malham Tarn - the Pennines' highest natural lake. The village itself has pubs and tea rooms and a National Park Centre. Mountain bike hire can be arranged locally. There is excellent walking in all directions, making Malham a great base for a Dales holiday.
