  • "The cottage is really relaxing and very cosy and was incredibly clean."

I would have given five stars but unfortunately the heating didn’t work. I tried following the instructions to boost the heating as it wasn’t coming on at all. That worked for about 30 minutes with both radiators but then they just turned off altogether with no screen display, and then wouldn’t turn back on again at all for the stay.

it was the perfect place for our long weekend away and wish we booked much longer! it was super cozy and homely and had everything we needed for our stay. It was the perfect location for being in the countryside and a quiet break but only being a 10min drive to a few of the towns and a decent distance to a lot of the activities in the lake district. 100% recommend and we hope to return again!

The only criticism is that it would have been nice to know a bit about local walking routes near the cottage.

! And provided plenty of kitchen amenities!! It made an excellent base for a wonderful Holiday! My only issue/concern (if you can call it that) was a bird fell down the chimney while we were there so I just wondered if there was anything you could put on the chimney to prevent that in future?! But other than that it was perfect!!

Cosy and has a well equipped kitchen for making some basic breakfast and simple meals. The drive to the premise is also wide enough and smooth, not like other tiny country roads in the same area.

The owners were lovely, thoughtful, and extremely helpful, and they have some really cute and friendly animals that make you feel right at home. The space was cozy and comfortable, and I really appreciated the wood-burning stove. I would absolutely love to stay in this charming cottage again one day.

  • "Arriving in dreadful weather, the cottage wasn't warm on arrival after a 7 hour journey that was disappointing."

however we realised the control on the wall for the underfloor heating wasn't on the next day so we turned it on( or up)and it was fine after. Neither of us liked the stairs we found them narrow and with the thick carpet I was slipping in my slippers everytime I went down them maybe just bare wood would give better grip , the bedroom made me feel giddy I felt like I was falling but we knew what it looked like on booking so our fault I didn't realise I would feel like that I imagine alot of people are fine with it . Not been able to stand straight due to the ceiling shape was awkward for us again it's how the cottage is , you cannot change that . Our next door neighbours arrived after us and had a swearing shouting row in the early hours and he was swearing shouting saturday afternoon slamming door/s , we didn't know what to do as everyone can have arguments it's hardly the cottage owners fault we decide to stay Sunday and go home early Monday ( instead of friday) however Sunday morning the next door neighbours left so we stayed. There are kitchen cupboards but each one had items in so as we had brought our food with us it was awkward storing things away l put the loaf of bread in the saucepan cupboard. Each day I had used a saucepan and colander from that cupboard (unaware rodents was likely to be walking over these items. )on Thursday morning I opened it to get the bread out and the bread and plastic wrapper was ripped around bread and the seeds of the bread scattered in the cupboard obviously rodents / mice , I phoned the cottage owner and he sent a maintenence man in while we was out for the day ( as we had pre- paid tickets for muncaster castle) they acted on it swiftly and the owner apologised ( on the phone and in a text- telling me they had put mouse traps behind the kick boards and cleaned up the mess of bread etc but didn't see anything) unfortunately I am absolutely terrified of rodents so that was extremely stressful for me I cannot help how I feel about them- I am aware these things happen sometimes - we lived for years in a very remote cottage and now live in the countryside next to the sea so I realise rodents get into places but it just totally ruined the holiday for me especially I spent all night and evening listening for mice and we went home - as planned as end of holiday on Friday but left at 4.20am as I couldn't relax anymore . I guess we was unfortunate but we had looked forward to the holiday so much - as anyone does but it wasn't how we would have liked it to be Also the living space could do with better lighting at night it was really dull I realise we sound like moaners , we chose the cottage knowing how it's layout was etc but all the other incidents just ruined it . We wouldn't go back.

My sincere apologies you experienced this Alan, thank you for your comments, I would have been more than happy to assist you with the heating. Due to the surroundings, mice can appear in the property as can any woodland creature. We don't have a vermin or mice issue - I apologise if this caused any issues. Our maintenance man has installed the necessary requirements to reduce this from happening. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at Ewedale Farm twice before in the past year, both times in Laith Cottage, we absolutely loved our stays there, so this time we thought we would try Thimble Cottage."

We were so looking forward to it. Thimble cottage is clean and comfortable and well equipped with everything you might need for your stay. However, the Cottage is very dark and would benefit from a few extra table lamps. Upstairs, where this a very small mirror, it is particularly dark, making it almost impossible to use the mirror. The "stairs" to the mezzanine floor are more like a ladder, very, very steep, extremely narrow and definitely not wide enough to place your whole foot on. I'm not keen on heights and l found it particularly difficult coming down. The shower us terrible, hardly any water pressure and difficult to regulate. Sorry, but its just not up to the same standard as Laith Cottage,we definitely won't return.

Thank you Ste and Carol for making our stay awesome! The cottage was lovely, with a cosy fire place and a full modern kitchen, the welcome bottle of wine and milk was a lovely touch. The milk bottle came in handy considering we arrived late at night with a toddler. The cottage gives a very cabin like feeling, which we loved.
