  • "The cottage is exceptional in every way."

Beautifully decorated to a very high standard using tasteful fabrics and furniture etc. It's situated in a very quite village with the added bonus of a cafe within a nursery a few steps away. We could not fault it and I am sure you would enjoy your stay here, I have no hesitation in recommending it to you.

  • "Fantastic place to stay."

Lovely quiet village location with larch cottage nurseries and red barn gallery on doorstep. Yew tree cottage is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Beautiful gardens too! Really enjoyed our stay here and didn’t want to leave. Worked well as a base to explore the northern lakes area. Would love to return!

  • "This is an amazing cottage, beautifully furnished and very well equipped, with a fabulous garden."

Be aware that there is only one shower and if like us, you have three couples, getting ready may take time. The location is great for visiting the east and north Lake District. Melkinthorpe is quiet and has a wonderful garden centre and gallery. Just one tiny gripe, there are no shelves or surfaces in the en-suite to put toiletries, but this is such a small thing. Overall this is the best Sykes cottage we’ve stayed in and we’ve had some great ones in the past.

Judith – thanks so much for your feedback and comments. There are shelves in the en-suite but they are discreetly contained within the mirror unit and there is a shower tidy in the shower itself. The shelves really aren’t obvious, so I’m very sorry you missed those! Apart from that slight glitch we’re really glad to hear you enjoyed your time at Yewtree! Property Owner

It was extremely well appointed, wonderful location, so peaceful and the garden was beautiful. The decor and soft furnishings were amazing. Mark and Tim had thought of everything including the welcoming tray of goodies. We would definitely return.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the location is peaceful but easily accessible for the Lake District and Eden valley. The photos on the website don’t do it justice.

  • "5* Our favourite Sykes Cottage Just back from our second stay at Yew Tree."

..the best property we’ve stayed in! Fantastic location in peaceful, pretty village, yet easy access from main roads. (My daughter and I feel very safe here, being 2 ladies on our own). Luxury bed linen, furnishings, decor and beautiful gardens make this property exceptional. Not far from Ullswater and Inn on the Lake for stunning views and great food. You can just wander across the road to Larch Cottage Nurseries and La Casa Verde Italian restaurant for Breakfast, lunch or tea and cake. The most kind and considerate hosts...were already planning our next stay.

House and garden are fantastic, off the beaten track, yet within 15 minutes of the edge of the Lake District. The attention to detail both inside and out were just fantastic. We will be back!

! Only thing to improve on is some local activity information, guides, books etc - there appeared to be nothing in the house at all

  • "Yew Tree is a beautiful cottage to stay in."

It has been impeccably decorated and is incredibly comfortable. Spotlessly clean too. The location is perfect for exploring the Eden Valley too. The owners are lovely too - they left a lovely welcome tray with the best blueberry muffins I’ve ever had! Nothing was too much trouble for them. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • "This is such a wonderful property to stay in."

It's immaculately clean, very quiet, beautifully and expensively furnished and equipped. Everything works well, the beds are very comfortable, the towels are white and soft, plenty of crockery, glasses, etc, and all matching! Clearly the owners continue to invest in making it a lovely place to stay in. The location is great being on a no-through road in a quiet village. There are beautiful walks from the door, and we were lucky enough to see a kingfisher by the river. It's also not far from Penrith, Keswick and the lakes. I really recommend this as a great place to stay - in fact it's one of the nicest holiday cottages we've ever stayed in!

  • "Yew Tree cottage is an absolutely stunning cottage on a lovely little hamlet in the north lakes."

The cottage is furnished to a high standard and facilities provided are fantastic. The beds are super comfy and it is so quiet in the village that you get such a good nights sleep. Our only criticism would be that the smoke alarms in the kitchen/dining area are so sensitive that they go off even when using the toaster- if this could be addressed, that would definitely be an improvement. The garden is so special and has been carefully designed to allow you to relax and enjoy being amongst the wildlife. You definitely need a car in order to stay at this property as there is no public transport nearby- the nearest pub being in the next village at Great Strickland. With a car however, it is ideally located to be able to visit lots of lovely towns such as Keswick, Grasmere, Penrith, Ambleside and other attractions such as Lowther Castle, the Jersey Ice Cream Farm, and Askham Hall. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing time in the north lakes. The hosts do a brilliant job at making your stay extremely comfortable and offer those added touches to make it even more special - including a gorgeous bunch of wild flowers from the garden and delicious homemade blueberry muffins - it is a very special place to stay.
