  • "Great place, perfect for us, lovely welcoming hamper."

Pub just over the road. Stairs steep so might be tricky for elderly guests. Two suggestions - shower mat (my mother nervous without one) & extra chopping boards - there were a lot of us to cook for!

  • "The house was perfect - very clean and comfy, with everything we needed and lots of parking."

Very comfy beds! Great hot tub and bar area and cosy lounge area with plenty of seating. The surroundings are beautiful and there is plenty to do in the area - we visited Barnard Castle, the Bowes Museum, did a really lovely walk to High Force (amazing waterfall) and a walk down the disused railway line just behind the house. There is also a little play park and small football field just to the back of the house - really great for kids. There is a pub just 2 minutes down the road but unfortunately we weren’t able to go (we have 2 small kids) but it looks very nice and I read good things about their takeaway pizza in the house guest book. Peter was a really lovely host - he met us on arrival and showed us how the hot tub works etc. there was a lovely welcome hamper waiting for us also! Peter is from the area and so is very knowledgable about where to go/ best parking etc. Overall we had a really wonderful stay and are thinking about returning at some point with a different group x

  • "What a perfect weekend in a perfect cottage!"

A group of forty-somethings having a get together with a hot tub, pubs in walking distance and some nice walks in the local area. Tick, tick, tick. Add in your very own bar and a lovely, helpful owner - and it is so good, we’re already planning a return trip. The property is immaculate, well equipped, comfy beds and spacious. I don’t know about you, but when you’re are heading to self catering type properties you’re always wondering, will it have… (hand towels, tea towels, oven gloves, towels, enough plates and glasses, washing up stuff) the list is endless, but the answers are all yes. Thank you Peter for a wonderful stay and your advice on local places to eat out and go for walks - and your thoughtful arrival gift. See you again soon.

Peter was very helpful and gave us lots of useful local info. Loved the house, very comfortable and homely and had everything you could need. Because the hot tub was under cover it meant it could be used whatever the weather. Had the best Sunday lunch at The Crown and pizzas from The Blacksmiths Arms- very good. Lovely local walks. Go along the old railway line to Middleton and stop at the excellent Samuel James cafe then walk back along the river, lovely area.

  • "We had such an amazing weekend spent at Belgrave House!"

We were celebrating an 18th birthday and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything about this place was perfect, although having a dryer would be easier for drying towels. The cleanliness was superb and the host Peter was very welcoming and answered all of our enquiries. I would say spend as much time as you can in the house especially the bar or the hot tub, however if you do venture out the two local pubs were lovely. Sunday lunch at The Crown was beautiful and having a pint at the Blacksmith Arms was spot on. We would all definitely recommend staying at this beautiful house and we will 100% be back! Thank you very much for having us! See you again soon!

The house was exactly as described with plenty of space for 12 adults. Peter the host was very helpful, he popped round as we settled in and even helped with a flat tyre problem on departure day when he wasn’t even around! The only downside is there isn’t much around the house within walking distance apart from 2 pubs, we could have done with a nearby shop. We arrived by mini bus but if we had driven ourselves this wouldn’t had been much of a problem. Overall a lovely stay and we will keep this house in mind for future events and occasions.

  • "An amazing property that is clearly maintained to a high level."

For the facilities that are provided I think it’s a fair price to ask. We have stayed in a few self-catering properties that although, initially we’re really great, the emphasis is clearly on turn over and not on maintaining the property to the standard you would expect. This is NOT the case with Belgrave House. Situated in beautiful countryside with everything you may need close by. This is one Gem to rant about!

The fab bar area has a sliding door to the lounge, so plenty of options for relaxing together or separately! Huge kitchen table so everyone can eat together. Loads of DVDs for all ages. Plenty of bathrooms and bedroom options for families. Would definitely go back! The only reason i didn't give the top mark for comfort was some of the beds weren't as comfortable as others, some seemed to have better quality mattress. Also the first flight of stairs were a bit steep so care is needed, but guess it's just an old cottage!

  • "An excellent property in a great location."

Our only concerns were the ceiling height of the second floor bedrooms and shower room. That shower was extremely small. The lack of storage space for clothing - just ok for a weekend stay. It is advertised to accommodate 12 people, however 12 would be tight to sit altogether in the lounge and round the dining room table. We would definitely return as a group of 8 if we were to stay in that area again.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you felt this way. Within the property photographs we do highlight that the ceilings are sloped in the second-floor bedrooms and shower room. On arrival at the property, we advised that the property had been set up for 8 people as this was the number given to us as your party size when you booked, so the property had been set up to accommodate accordingly. If you were renting the property for 12, this would have been different. I hope this did not spoil your stay too much and would like to thank you once again for your feedback. We wanted something special for my 50th birthday celebration. Accommodating two families in comfort and space. Belgrave house exceeded our expectations and was beyond perfect. The house is fresh, clean and modern. Lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. Comfortable beds with crisp white sheets and fluffy white towels. We set up the pub room into our party area and it was fantastic. It brought everyone together. In particular the huge warm bubbling hot tub was a massive hit. Where else can you get 6 young people sitting, laughing, facing each other, engaging in conversation for over 3 hours without even a phone or social media in sight. It was a digital detox bonding session without them even noticing. Then a lovely log burner to warm up beside and a huge farmhouse kitchen table for us to have a celebration meal together. The house has enough room inside and outside to find a little quiet time if needed. Belgrave is a minute walk away to a great gastro pub and also lots of walks on the doorstep. The owner Peter is very helpful and friendly and wants his guests to enjoy their stay and be as comfortable as possible. We will be back for certain!

  • "What a perfect weekend away!"

Me and my friends have been doing cottage breaks for the past couple of years and this one by far exceeded expectations, with three showers and four bathrooms, the comfiest beds and a stunning kitchen with a perfectly sized oven made for cooking for the whole house, a beautiful living room with Netflix, dvds and games to entertain. The best rooms in the house had to be the bar, built like a small pub with comfortable seating a fridge and pumps on the wall and just out the window the conservatory with the hot tub! Perfect size and amazing being inside! Had absolutely no issues all weekend and the owner lives next door but one and is immediately happy to help with anything needed! Would recommend this house to anyone absolutely stunning and already planning a return visit!!!
