  • "Really lovely stay."

Everything as described. Very convenient location. Quiet and would highly recommend.

  • "An excellent property very well stocked, especially the kitchen which had literally everything!"

In an great location for central Ambleside with local shops (Budgen, Coop, Tesco, just round the corner). The house was comfortable. A bit more light in the dining area would have helped but otherwise no negative comments. We were blessed with fine weather so didn't really use the games room cellar, but it was an excellent add on that would have been useful in poor weather.

  • "A wonderful property."

Well thought out for families with toys and games that our children appreciated. We loved the kitchen, it was a real hub for our family. It was also very helpful to have a loo on each floor too. Thank you!

Brilliant location, great house… downstairs toilet cold tap wasn’t turning (just so you know) and Ian lids would have saved a bit if energy but overall a success

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry you experienced issues at the start but glad it was quickly rectified, I can see that our maintenance team are going out to fix the downstairs tap thank you for bringing it to our attention. - The owner relations team Property Owner

In the centre of Ambleside only a short walk to lovely shops and cafes. Good access to buses to Grasmere and Keswick and if course the walks and lakes.

Sleeps 5 , but would only seat in the living room 4 comfortably. There were only 2 of us so no problem, a sofa each. Lovely large bath on top floor and a good size shower in main bathroom. Will definitely stay again in the future as central to Ambleside and dog friendly, even if it is only one.

Really well equipped kitchen, and very comfortable. Only slight quibble is there was just one key and no key box which meant a juggle with our daughter if doing different things! Also having to pick up and drop off keys at the office just adds a bit of a faff! But definitely going back as beautiful cottage and so clean!!!!

Totally fantastic and we would return. Only BUTs : - the fabric on the lounge sofas is grubby and stinky. Needs a clean - overflowing bin from previous occupiers wasn’t collected properly. We did tell the management but wasn’t sorted so we had to take care of the mess.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Thank you also for pointing out the sofa issue… this has now been rectified and will be kept on top of from now on. Property Owner

  • "Hazeldene is in a great location, so close to everything that you don't have to drive anywhere if you do not want to, which we didn't."

The house is well equipped with some quality fixtures and fittings, the bathrooms in particular are plush, the only thing lacking is some basic cleaning essentials in the bathrooms. The kingsize bed is the most comfortable bed i have ever slept on and will be making enquiries as to what mattress it is to purchase for myself!. The property is dog friendly to a point, however as with most dog friendly accommodations no dogs on furniture, and they are to be left downstairs at night and as the property has fire doors this shuts them in, for dogs in a new environment this could cause distress, our dog was too tired at night to bother where she slept but it could be a problem for some. Overall an enjoyable and comfortable stay and would recommend hazeldene if you were looking to stay in ambleside.

  • "Property/soft furnishings grubby and lots of cobwebs everywhere, cracked glasses etc - no attention to detail."

We found the staff in the office not to be very welcoming, and nobody about on our departure. The positives - the property is very centrally located. We wouldn't recommend Heart of the Lakes - not the best experience we've ever had

Thank you for your feedback. We have raised your issues with Heart of the Lakes and rectified the issues regarding glasses and soft furnishings. Property Owner

The property and location were perfect. House was clean warm and everything worked as expected. Parking was on street with a permit and never had an issue with it. They also provide you a permit that can be used in lots of car parks around the lakes (never used this) .

Really enjoyed our holiday and will be re-booking! The house was clean, well set out and one of the best equipped we've stay in. A home from home, and one which the family did not want to leave! Parking was excellent, bedding and towels were hotel standard, bike shed super useful and we all loved the games room! Please pass pass on our huge thanks to the owners.

  • "Hazeldene is in a fantastic location."

It’s perfect, especially with having facilities on every floor. It has everything you need for cooking wholesome meals. We managed to park outside the property most of the time, which is good considering how hard it is to find a parking space in Ambleside. We have been here several times and no doubt will be back again.

  • "Our third time in Hazeldene and whilst we had a great time as the location is great, it's starting to feel a bit tired and in need of new sofas and beds , mattresses not as comfortable as we remember and could do with a new oven."

There was no corkscrew in the house , so we had to buy one and 2 glasses were.broken in the cupboard . A further glass broke in the dishwasher (again a replacement might be an idea) . We are back again in Early December but have chosen another cottage as its been refurbished and includes a much bigger TV with Netflix etc and nespresson machine so whilst it's still ok, it needs some investment otherwise people (like us) will stop visiting.

  • "Great location and a really nice property."

I would return and would definitely recommend. One area possibly for improvement would be for a few tea bags and some ground coffee to be provided with milk and sugar on arrival. Also, a bit more than a few ml of washing up liquid. Given this is common for Air BnB properties with whom you compete I think it would be worth doing. It would cost less than £10 and be a positive differentiator.

  • "The part of the dryer that collects water was full."

Had difficulty understanding the instructions in the manual on how to empty it (I’ve never had to do this as my dryer drains itself). A hand written note in the binder would save time figuring it out. Basement light above the stairs doesn’t turn off. Not sure if that is a safety feature. Again. A note would be helpful. We arrived/left by train. And would have nice if there was a key box at the house instead of getting the taxi to stop by the office. That said, it was enroute and went smoothly. Love the location. My brother’s family rented it during our last reunion. I would rent again. Great games room in the basement for the kids. Good to have toilet on main floor. Would recommend to others.

Loads of games, dvds and the added bonus of the table tennis and football in the cellar for those wet days. Parking on the street wasn’t a problem for us - as we never moved our car all week - great walks direct from the house. Would highly recommend.

  • "Lovely, well equipped holiday home in excellent central location in Ambleside."

My only (constructive ) criticism would be that for a property sleeping 5 (potentially all adults) the lounge is small with two 2 seater sofas and so you would not be able to seat 5 adults without someone being on the floor or on a dining room chair.

Sadly the cleanliness on arrival, particularly of the kitchen, was unacceptable, especially given the times we are living in with the pandemic. Otherwise, a fabulous place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted to hear you found the cottage to be well equipped and loved the location. We are saddened that on this occasion the cleanliness did not meet your expectations, we did offer for a member of our housekeeping team to re attend and rectify any shortfalls, and it is with regret that you declined. About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
