However it needs to be better described as the stairs were a real problem. We all felt scared on every set of them, especially the one leading upto the main bedroom. It was dangerous and we all agreed really not sure how it passed the Health and Safety legislation. The fridge freezer broke down wholstcwe were there, it took many phone calls to get a fridge for us. We had to throw away alot of food we had bought. There has been no response from the owner or apology. Would we stay at Stone Cottage again, NO. Would we book with lakelovers again, sorry but no.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of that you found an issue with the stairs. Our Property Services Team attended and provided a loan fridge during your stay. On departure, the fridge was checked and no issue was found. We take all comments on board. We are sorry to hear that you were not happy with Lakelovers response. There was ongoing work being done , so a scaffold was out the back , but because of the honesty ( we were told it would be there ) and a 25% discount due to the scaffold , it wasn’t an issue for us , an absolutely superb place to stay

It’s a great property and we were given plenty of notice re bathroom out of action and generous refund; however we couldn’t get anything else to meet our needs so this did mean putting elderly parents on top floor, this house has a lot of stairs so not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Otherwise it’s a lovely place with a really great basement kitchen and big seating area. Perfect for Ambleside as town literally a minute around the corner.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay at Stones Throw Cottage, which is very well situated for the village of Ambleside."

The cottage is very well appointed and has everything you could want. It is much bigger on the inside that it looks. Lots of local information available which is a plus. We were a family of 4 adults and 3 children aged 8&9. The children loved the cottage and nicknamed the kitchen ‘the pub’ due to the large table which was brilliant for playing board games. The fact that it is on 4 floors works very well as it gives space for different families. The bedrooms are all good sizes and very nicely presented. We had a really good pizza from Mama Mia pizzeria, 5 minute walk away. The parking for the second car is tight but we managed to get a Kia Sportage in but it was really tricky to get it out. I would agree with some other reviews that it would be nice if it was turned into a garden, the public car park is very close and parking passes aren’t that expensive. Parking outside the house with the permit was fine. We would recommend and would book again if we were holidaying in that area.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay. We take all comments on board. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely Christmas week at Stone's Throw Cottage and have stayed here several times."

It was as lovely as ever. The kitchen is perfect for board games and has all the equipment needed for our family of four adults and dog. The beds are really comfortable and warm. We really appreciated the Bath House soap supplied this year and also the Christmas Tree and the dog bowls and poo bags! It is in a great location - on a quiet road but within 5 minutes walk to town. We rarely use our car when we stay here as many wonderful walks are on your doorstep, Wansfell, Loughrigg and Grasmere to name a few. We are sure to be back again.

  • "Great for fully mobile, but stairs narrow and steep which was difficult for my elderly parents."

option of stair gates would be good for those with a young family. The property was cosy, clean and plenty spacious enough for 8 of us. The kitchen was a lovely set up and well equipped. The house is in a lovely quiet road which is 2 mins walk from the shops, bars and restaurants. The parking at the back is a little tricky, but there is permit parking right outside the front door for 1 car. We booked last minute, and the communication was excellent. I would definitely recommend this company and property

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Stones Throw Cottage - it is in a great location in the centre of Ambleside for visiting shops and restaurants."

However, the cottage is looking a little tired in areas, especially upstairs bathrooms and outside spaces and could benefit from some tlc. The parking space to the rear is accessed by an exceptionally narrow lane and only suitable for very very small cars.

  • "We had a great stay at Stone’s Throw Cottage and enjoyed the combination of being so close to the town, yet on a lovely quiet street, and with excellent walking to be had right from the door."

The house as well set up and comfortable too. One suggestion - the back yard was extremely tight for parking even for our Golf - only 1-2 inches each side in the lane and turning in - so given the property cost these days it might be better to provide a second parking permit for the road and rework this as a little garden?

Beds very comfortable. Lovely thick towels. My only concern is the back steps which were quite damp with some foliage growing and were a bit slippy but apart from that absolutely no problems. We’ve stayed here before and would stay here again.

The cottage had everything what was needed. Clean and very comfortable. Enough space to rest and play games. Very close to the centre, shops, pubs and lovely walks. Very quiet area. Parking for two cars, but the path to get to the rear parking space very narrow. I would recommend this place.

  • "Good stay in a generally comfortable, well-provisioned and located house."

I just about managed to get my Nissan Qashqai into the space behind the house. Anything bigger would definitely not fit. The main downsides were the mattresses in top bedrooms beds were uncomfortably hard and the position of the boiler between these bedrooms at the head of the beds was tortuously noisy when on. Would benefit from some acoustic insulation round the boiler/ in the cupboard. The price charged was relatively high this year compared to previous year and next year so not sure it represents value and probably wouldn't book again at this price.

  • "The positive is cottage is ideally situated and we did have a good holiday, especially as the weather was fantastic for March."

Unfortunately there are a few negatives 1. It states in the information that you can park a small car at the rear. You can’t, the neighbours have bins stored in the passageway and it is impossible to get a car down. 2. The heating system. It was so hot at night after 11pm, however the kitchen area was like a fridge most of the time. 3. The cottage is advertised as sleeping 8 which it does, but it is a tight squeeze. You all cannot sit together in any room other than the kitchen.

  • "Excellent property spoilt by lack of attention to detail."

No hand wash in any of the containers (5) plus empty large refill under sink. No kitchen roll. Chipped pots in cupboard. Fault with heating - kitchen radiators working intermittently when rest of heating is on. This problem with heating has been reported on numerous occasions over the past few years - why has it not been fixed? Kitchen too cold for dining. Car permit had expired 3 weeks before our visit. Reported to Lakelovers - no solution. Spent week worrying we would receive parking fine. We found it extremely difficult to park small second car in rear parking spot - 2 permits needed.

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding Stones Throw Cottage. We apologise that you had a few issues during your stay and would have hoped you would have let us know regarding the heating. We understand the permit had expired and we have been awaiting a new one to be posted please send over your receipts as requested and we can reimburse you for the costs of the car park. Regarding the heating we were unaware there were still issues but are resolving them now with a local plumber. The Maintenance team have installed some wall mounted soap containers and the cleaners will ensure these are refilled during each clean. We are sorry these were not filled for your stay. • "We had a lovely stay."

We would have given top marks if the kitchen hadn't been cold most of the time. Unusable in the mornings, had to eat evening meals upstairs which was difficult as the coffe table in back livingroom was small, nest of tables would be useful. Not sure of heating settings were correct for time of year.

Thank you for your comments regarding Stones Throw Cottage. We are glad to hear you had a great stay. We are sorry to hear you had issues with the heating in the Kitchen. We have addressed this with a local plumber to resolve and we hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Dirty under sofas, wrapping paper etc. 3 chipped mugs which I left out for cleaner to see. very little toilet paper and handwash left. Heating very intermittent. This is our fifth stay at Stones throw but decided not to book for next year due to huge increase in cost of house. Almost Doubled over last 6 years.

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding Stones Throw Cottage. We are sorry you found some issues within the property. The price difference is 7% between last year and this year. This is take into account the increases in gas, electricity and cleaning costs. There was no increase from 2020 to 2021 and feel that this price increase is suitable. Kind Regards, Property Owner

  • "Excellent property, it contained everything we needed."

We recommend not trying to use the parking at the rear of the property. Way to tight to get a normal family car in. The front garden was definitely in need of attention. Other than the above just perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback after your stay at Stones Throw Cottage. We are glad to hear you had a great stay. Unfortunately the space at the rear is quite tight hence why we advise it is not suitable for larger vehicles and a permit is provided for the nearby car park. Through the lovely garden and into the oak floored hallway, guests will be delighted to spread out across two charming sitting rooms.

The first of which has a slate fireplace, superb views out towards Loughrigg and comfortable leather furnishings.

The second is home to the woodburning stove and gives access to a terraced glazed balcony, this time with views of Fairfield.

The luxury kitchen with dining area is downstairs, and benefits from a useful utility and separate washroom with basin and wc.

This family area is a sociable space, somewhere to enjoy a family meal and somewhere to read the papers over breakfast or sit and chat.

Stones Throw Cottage has plenty of room for parties to spread out and do their own thing. Back to the hall, and stairs lead up to a luxury bathroom with bath and power shower over.

On this floor is a magnificent double room with super king size bed.

This can be separated into twin beds on request.

Alongside is a second room, this time a twin.

It’s then up to the final two bedrooms, both king size and with en-suite power shower rooms.

The views from these two bedrooms are particularly impressive. Outside is a garden with seat bench, and a drive with parking for one car.

A parking permit allows a second car to park on the lane by the cottage.

Stones Throw Cottage, with its flexible accommodation and lively location, is the perfect property for a mixed group.

There is something, and somewhere, for everyone to enjoy.

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
