  • "We have stayed in this cottage a number of times now it is a cosy cottage with all you could want and more… nicely decorated and very comfortable… situated in a quaint village with friendly neighbours… they have thought of everything you could need."

There are plenty of lovely walks for man and dog alike…. The only downside for us was leaving after a great week… we will be back again soon

  • "Rose Cottage is a great place to stay."

We found the kitchen to be a lovely room in which to prepare our meals all equipment was of a very high standard. We thought the decor was amazing and so in keeping with the lovely cottage. The lounge was extremely comfortable the only thing we would add would be a foot stool after long walks! We loved the wood burner it made the room very cosy . The bedrooms were excellent and beds very comfortable , I slept in the smaller room, bed was squeaky when turning over ! The decor was again really lovely with peaceful colours and great soft furnishings. Shower was great, some gel would be a bonus. The gardens were lovely for our dogs as were the dog bowls , very thoughtful. We went for some lovely walks and had lunch and a takeaway all enjoyed found the locals very friendly . Would highly recommend this cottage . My son has a large car so we parked in the car park it’s only a short distance to cottage. Great place and location.

Thank you for your feedback and so pleased you had a good time at the cottage- there are so many lovely places to explore plus great walks- we have tried to keep the cottage to a high standard so your comments are well received thank you Property Owner

We could not fault any part of this cottage…. The village setting is beautiful and the people really friendly… There are plenty of lovely walks nearby, perfect base for a break to the Lake District… This was our third visit so it feels like home from home, we will be back later in the year

Welcome back ! I probably dont need to update you on locations or walks as your return visits speak for themselves- Kings Meaburn is a delightful village and so close to the lakes and the dales. Thank you again though for your lovely comments we do appreciate these. Property Owner

My cat wasn't happy to be home, she loved the place so much to. Penrith just a short drive away for shops etc. Ideal place for location and so peaceful. Would definitely stay there again.

Its always nice to get positive feedback and this just confirms that we are hopefully on the right track- where possible we do take on board any comments to help us improve and maintain the cottage to a high standard. so again thank you Property Owner

Very well equipped and comfortable. One small point. Parking is restricted and would be helped with some slabs to stop you stepping into mud.

Thank you so much for your feedback and glad the cottage met your needs - it was a shame you had such a wet week- we do put stones down where the car is parked to help when muddy but as it is not actually our land we are restricted in what we can do. Property Owner

  • "This is a fantastic little cottage in a lovely village with sheep in the field opposite which I loved."

Parking it on the road but it’s not busy so always a parking space outside the cottage. The front garden is secure for dogs we took our cockapoo Riley he loved it. The only negative if you call it that was the back garden has a thoroughfare through it but honestly it didn’t bother us at all. We was there 3 nights & only saw the lady coming to feed & collect the eggs from the hens that live there 2. Don’t let this put you off !!!! The cottage was one of the cleanest I’ve ever stayed in and had all the extra facilities to have a very pleasant stay. Hot water was plentiful. The furnishings were lovely especially the bedroom so cosy. The cottage was very warm alongside lighting the log burner on a night time which was so welcoming after a long walk with the dog. There is a lovely pub in the village that does lovely food but unfortunately it was closed the 3 nights we were there but good reviews in book. Thanks again for a lovely stay. The only thing I would say is take some bird seed there are so many different varieties of birds & if you’re like me love watching them there aren’t any feeders to enjoy watching them on. But that’s just me !!!

Thank you for your feedback we do appreciate this -our dog (also a cockapoo) loves being in the garden and especially the walk down to the river ! The village pub is a great place to go to and such a shame your visit coincided with their nights off as they serve amazing food and local beers- our neighbours do walk through the back garden to feed their hens but that is part of the quirky nature of our cottage - we don’t have bird feeders for no other reason than we are not here every week to be able to restock them - but lots of lovely local wildlife around Property Owner

Ideal base for a stay, the cottage was clean and comfy. The kitchen is well equipped, spacious. It had everything you could need, the rear yard was perfect for dinning outside and is perfect for a dog. It felt like home from home, Parking outside the cottage is great with further parking if needed just a little further into the village. Everyone was so friendly in the village, we will be returning. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Really pleased you had a good stay in our cottage - your feedback is important to ensure we keep Rose cottage to a high standard and it would be so nice to welcome you back / again thank you Property Owner

Kings Meaburn is a gorgeous village with some lovely walks straight from the front door. Parking was fine with one space right at the door and friendly neighbours guided us as to where best to leave the second car of our party. We’re already planning to return next year! Loved it!

Thought and care have gone in to every room. My only comment would be that parking in front of cottage is difficult and risky, some form of parking bay , Ideally tarmac & marked to alleviate this risk would really help! Kind regards, Jim

Hi thank you for your feedback we always value our guests comments - we are unable to tarmac the area you mentioned as this not part of our property however we have tried to improve this whilst balancing that Kings Meaburn is a small village and the country feel is important to this. The bed was very comfy and loved the softness of the towels. Neighbour was very friendly and offered suggestions on days out, we went on the train to Settle after talking to them and had a lovely day. We were very pleased we were able to book an extra night as we felt so at home we didn't want to leave. The Dogs loved lying in front of the fire after a busy day. We are definitely hoping to return again. The pub that is in the listings was closed unfortunately but that can't be helped. Could you let the owners know the toilet seems to be on constantly running through and the radiator in the living room didn't work, wasn't a problem for us but thought they would like to know. Thank you for such a lovely place to stay.

Thank you so much for your review and we were glad to be able to accommodate an extension to your holiday and would love to welcome you back . Everyone is hoping the village pub will open soon , although there are some other really delightful local pubs. We are instigating the toilet and radiator to be looked at this week so thank you for letting us know Property Owner

  • "A great holiday cottage in a beautiful area with friendly neighbours."

thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again. Only suggestion is to have a fold up airer to dry wet coats etc, we got soaked on the last day and realised there wasn't anything to hang them on. There is no washing machine (it isn't in the description) but maybe a small conservatory at the back of the house to have one and also an airer/clothes line? but anyway, a beautiful cottage to be in!

Thank you for your feedback and good point about a fold up airer for wet clothes. We had to make a decision between a dish washer and washing machine and the dishwasher won! At this time a conservatory is not feasible but take onboard your comments Property Owner

Whilst it is remote it is only about 20 mins by car to Appleby which we found had everything there that we needed, such as a co-op and Spar, pubs, cafes and some little independent shops. We found the remoteness of the cottage to be a bonus. So quiet, the only sounds were the birds, the lambs and the occasional tractor passing by. The cottage was spotless with a lovely blend of modern and traditional. There is a beautiful walk along the river just a few meters down the road. Owners happily accommodated our last minute request for an extra day and Sykes were fantastic in sorting this out for us. The drive to the cottage from the motorway gave us our first glimpse of this areas breathtaking views. The Eden Valley really is spectacular. We can't wait to go back!

The only downside for us was the weather which no one can control. Will definitely consider returning at some point.

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct.
