  • "Great cottage, and I feel the listing doesn't do it justice."

Wasn't sure if it was a semi-detached, but in reality you get the whole property (it's detached) and private. The car park would amply take 3 cars. Plenty of wood for the log-burner (honesty box), and the central heating was impressive: heated the whole house in minutes. Lots of hot water, and the kitchen was small but well-equipped. The house was very clean and the beds really comfortable. An excellent property.

Thank you very much for your kind words. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Kind regards, David & Carol Property Owner

The cottage is warm, comfortable and highly convenient to live in , the owners have taken care to think of everything. Delightful walks abound locally and you are near the Langdale Pikes and Grasmere. Sarah

  • "Before leaving for Wythebank we contacted you twice to arrange for a mid stay re supply of towels and bed linen but no cleaning of the property!"

On the Thursday of the first week we contacted you to confirm the re supply of towels/linen we were offered Friday or Saturday my wife confirmed Friday We waited in all day as you could not confirm AM/ PM delivery no delivery was made consequently we lost a whole day of our holiday waiting in And the result of this was we had to wash our own bedding and towels! We had expected a better service/experience as it was not a cheap holiday we had chosen You need to improve your administration the lack of service quality was highlighted because after we contacted you three times our requests were not fulfilled The property was fantastic the location was perfect however the lack of oversight by you cast a cloud over what we had hoped would be a holiday to be remembered

We are very disappointed to read that you have had problems dealing with Lakelovers administration. We have contacted Lakelovers Housekeeping to try and find out what went wrong with your linen change and the communication around it. We are delighted that you found the property “fantastic” and the location “perfect” but are obviously frustrated that the agency issues that you encountered have tarnished your holiday memories. • "The cottage was in a lovely spot, was very spacious and offered some wonderful walks from the front door."

Unfortunately, there were a few things that detracted from relaxing on our arrival and caused some irritations. We found that chopping boards were dirty and sticky, glasses at the back of the cupboards were dirty and hair on the bedroom carpet. Although a lot of things were provided there was no spare toilet roll and we had to go and get some on the second day. A bedroom lamp shade broken as was the bath panel and there was very poor suction on the vacuum cleaner and the mop was filthy. Overall the cottage was lovely and it was such a shame that these little things detracted from a wonderful holiday.

Thank you for your review. We are upset to hear of guests having issues at Wythebank and it certainly spoils our day. Our cleaning/housekeeping service is provided by Lakelovers/Sykes at a significant expense to us as owners. It would be helpful to us, if guests could report any issues with cleanliness as they find them, so that they can be addressed straight away. We will take up all your cleanliness issues with Lakelovers/Sykes although we are aware that the usual cleaners have not been coming recently. Regrettably, we are not able to do the changeovers at Wythebank ourselves at the moment. As Wythebank is a self-catering property, 2 toilet rolls are provided as a courtesy for guests who may have forgotten to pack any. We also, as a courtesy, leave some coffee, tea, sugar, salt and pepper, kitchen roll, foil, cling film, laundry liquid, washing up liquid, hand soap, dishwasher tablets, cleaning sponge, cloth, bin bags and shower gel. Again, if any of these are missing we request guests report this to their booking agent immediately. Unfortunately, the bath panel is no longer manufactured and we have not been able to find a replacement which fits. We are still looking for solutions. David had glued the crack along the top when we stayed 2 weeks before yourself. We also serviced the Dyson vacuum cleaner which had been blocked by someone hoovering up some plastic. It was left fully functioning. On the day you left, we were at the cottage to cut the grass. I also checked the Dyson whilst there and it was working well. We were unaware of a broken lampshade and will address that. The bedside lights in 2 of the bedrooms were new a matter of weeks ago. We’re pleased that you enjoyed your holiday on the whole. • "I have already contacted the property owner regarding the problems we have with this cottage."

The cleanliness was only adequate with the vacume cleaner still full of dirt, bed trow grubby, fridge less than spotless as we're the floors. Our major issue was what must be fle bites, we rent cottages on a regular bases and are very careful with liberal use of midge spray and not leaving windows open. These bits are in place's midges don't get to and more unpleasent. Our two dogs were well medicated for tick & flea two weeks before the holiday so not to blame and also ended up scratching profusely by the end of the week. We have had to was everything before bringing it back into our home.

I was upset to receive the phone call from your husband early on Saturday morning and am sad that you have gone home suffering bites. I want to assure you that we are taking your complaints seriously and have been open with the current guests. At this time of year the fells are full of all sorts of biting insects. Whilst we have never had them take up residence in the cottage before, we are investigating. Regarding cleanliness we have spoken with Lakelovers who are responsible for the cleaning and the linen change. If guests have concerns regarding the cleanliness of the property it would be helpful if this was reported on arrival. UPDATE: Your description of the bites and their location, your dogs' itching despite being up to date with flea prophylaxis, and our current guests not having been bitten since arrival at the cottage suggests that your bites are from Harvest Mites (AKA Chiggers). These will have been picked up whilst out walking, possibly by a lake but it could be anywhere. It's prime season for them in Cumbria. Property Owner

  • "We live in Cornwall and have been visiting the Lake District for many years (now in our mid 60's we calculate around 25 trips) and Wythebank is by far the best appointed cottage that we have stayed in."

All our needs were catered for, right down to a doorstep supply of seasoned wood for the log burners. The property if warm and cosy, the three bedrooms are large with very comfortable bedding, the kitchen diner is very well appointed and equipped and the tiled flooring ideal for wet wellies and dogs. The garden is fenced and gated (secure enough to contain our two very inquisitive Labradors) which is a real benefit for those late night/early morning toilet trips......... David and Carol have really gone the extra mile to make this cottage into a perfect base for their guests - fabulous....... Garth

  • "Wythebank was very comfortable, clean, and in a beautiful location."

The internet even though warned it had a weak signal worked pretty well in the rooms with good proximity to the hub! It’s truly a lovely cottage making a great base overall. Loved the piano too… 2 things though: it would be good to have a Welcome Pack provided with basic items on arrival as the nearest shop is quite a drive - we were fine as we brought lots of provisions! And the other thing is the road (Hodge Close) which runs for about 2 miles up to Wythebank, it’s pretty scary, especially if a car is coming in the opposite direction not near a passing place! That said, Wythebank is well-worth negotiating this road too, because once you get there the charming cottage makes for a lovely break! Good for our dogs too with an enclosed garden and spoilt for choice with plentiful walks through the most breathtaking scenery in all directions on your doorstep - 4.5 Stars and 5-Stars if a Welcome Pack was provided! Thank you to the owners as we hope to be back soon…

Thank you for your kind comments, we are pleased that you had an enjoyable stay. We take all comments on board. We do provide essential items that are easy to forget, like tea, coffee and sugar, salt and pepper, soap and shower gel. We trust that these were there when you arrived. Please let us know if they were not so that we can address that. We’re glad that the drive up the road, and the reversing, was worth it. We think it is quite a unique place. We hope to welcome you back sometime in the future. Property Owner

Spotlessly presented. A few small issues - For very understandable reasons the internet isn't the quickest, so if like me, you work whilst on holiday, this might be a little bit of an issue. The downstairs bathroom is a bit of a squeeze between the sink and the shower cabinet. All the kitchen knives in the knife block were blunt and need to be replaced. That said these are very minor issues and I would definitely stay here again.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
