  • "A very pleasant property in a perfect location for a walking holiday."

The village of Muker seems to be in good health. Even though we didn't meet the owners, we felt very welcome. The lack of any outdoor space - for parking or just sitting - is the one slight disadvantage, but this is made very clear in the property listing.

  • "Bit of a disappointment on arrival late afternoon after a very long journey to find the house cold - thermostat set to 16 - and no starter kit of logs/ kindling."

The log burner in the kitchen/diner appeared to be out of order with the cord door liner detached and lying loose. A warning note should have been left - rang the caretaker who confirmed it should not be used. He also said a bag of logs would be left for us the following morning for the fire in the sitting room - which they were. House took a while to warm up but after this misstep everything was great. The house is very well kitted out with super comfy beds and a really excellent sofa. All the kitchen equipment is good and the layout of the kitchen/diner makes for companionable cooking and chatting. The walks right from the doorstep are fabulous and we were lucky to be there when the newly reopened pub had just started providing food - the tea shop is also excellent. The house provided a fabulous base for exploring beautiful Swaledale and we were fortunate to experience the wonders of the Northern Lights while we were there.

Good morning My apologies that you did not have the welcome you expected . I am afraid that that was my fault entirely. I normally turn it up for guests arriving but I have been ill and completely forgot to do it and to arrange logs so again my apologies. I will ensure a new notice replaces the one that has been removed , whilst we’re are awaiting delivery of the new seal . am pleased however that this did not spoil your holiday and that you were still able to have a lovely time and enjoy the cottage and the area . Thankyou for your feedback and we do hope to see you again Chris Property Owner

  • "Perfect house upon which to explore Swaledale and the surrounds."

Well kitted out to do everything you may get need. Pub which is a stones throw away is in process of changing to community ownership and at this point was open for drinks only on Friday / Saturday / Sunday. Village shop has the basics.

Hi there Thank you so much for your kind comments and glad you enjoyed your stay so much . We try to keep the cottage equipped in a way we look for when we are on holiday . We too are delighted that the Farmers Arms is now in community ownership as it is so important to the village and we look forward to the increased opening hours as plans progress . We do hope to see you again another time Best Wishes Chris Property Owner

  • "Very peaceful location, good views, with village amenities and good choice of walks on hand."

Good quality cottage. Very responsive owner who organised a prompt repair for a faulty shower. The community is seeking to buy the village pub, which is the only nearby place to eat out in the evening. With the current owner it is absolutely necessary to book for food, and the more notice the better. Their beer is good.

Hi there Thankyou for your kind feedback . So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found the quality of the cottage appropriate. Glad too that you enjoyed the walks from the cottage . Glad to say that the community buy out of the local pub is progressing really well and the long term future of the pub as a community asset now seems secure Hope to see you again soon Regards Chris Property Owner

It was great that, as two couples, we each had an ensuite, no fighting over the master bedroom!! Comfortable furniture and everything we needed for self catering (inspired to get new cheese grater like yours!!) Location, amazing. We thought the gallery was better than the Reeth galleries. Overall, a great stay. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

Well-equipped and plenty of space for 2 couples. Great to have 3 bathrooms. Only drawback is that there is no outside space to sit and have a drink and enjoy the sunshine.

Hi there Thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback and glad that you returned again . • "This is one of the best cottages I've stayed in."

If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place to visit. Situated in the small village of Muker, it is totally tranquill. The facilities of this place are great, which are much needed when travelling to a relatively isolated village - The nearest town with decent services is Hawes, a 20 minute drive away. Simaltenously, the disadvantage and selling point of this cottage is its remoteness. If you enjoy hiking, waterfalls and other outdoor activities, then this is the place for you. If you prefer sightseeing or more amenities, then you may wish to venture somewhere else. But for me, this place was perfect.

  • "It was great."

The only noticeable area of improvement is that when we have stayed in other Sykes cottages there has been a bottle of milk in the fridge. Luckily it was a time and day when the village shop was open,, but some milk would be good. Other properties have even provided a bottle of wine. The sachets of coffee provided had a Use By Date that was about 8 or 9 months old. Also some shampoo:shower gel would be useful. That said everything g else was fine. It was good to have washing machine and dishwasher and everything worked. Beds and bedding were excellent. The description on the website is silent on the garden, but should probably say that there isn’t one. It is also slightly misleading about the parking, which is a very narrow headstand jutting out into the road so if you have a large or wide car you may need to park in the public parking (£15 per week).

The facilities were comfortable - especially the beds. We could have done with a bit more wood and kindling for the two stoves as well as some oven gloves. That being said, the cottage was warm and the communication with the owners was faultless. We will certainly be booking again!

Hi there Thank you for taking the time to offer feedback. It is good that you enjoyed the location as it is so beautiful . I agree the beds and peace are very conducive to a great nights sleep ! It was like a home away from home with everything you could possibly need. We loved the snug area with the log fire on. The is two lovely spacious bedrooms with en suites and a cosy room with bunk beds that my children loved. There is no phone reception in the village, which suited us so we could switch off for a few days, but there is reliable wi-fi in the cottage if needed.
