"We had a wonderful stay."
The cottage has everything you could ask for. The location is magical and a perfect location for climbing Scafell Pike.
So pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you managed your climb up Scafell Pike. It was a pleasure to meet you both (Sweep has missed you as you made such a fuss of her!!). Property Owner

"The hosts were lovely friendly people."
Ideal location for climbing the hills and swimming in Lake. So peaceful. Enjoyed meeting the animals. Will certainly return when able to. Our weather was amazing but even if it had rained the location is brilliant. A comfortable stay. In a quaint cottage. One very small thing.. The vegetable knife needs sharpening.
Thank-you for your feedback. We appreciate you making us aware that the knives need sharpening/replacing and will address that. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the weather was also good for you, especially with you enjoying your wild swimming in the lake .........brrrrrrrr! Property Owner

"The place was perfect, even nicer than described."
Cosy and clean throughout. The beds were very comfortable and all the appliances worked perfectly. The information booklet was extremely useful and we were very grateful for and impressed with the little extras ; the tea/coffee, wine, milk in the fridge etc. The fire being set up ready to light was a perfect little extra touch. Perfect location for us, we felt very welcome.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage in this beautiful part of the world. Thank-you for your informative and positive feedback. Property Owner

"This cottage passes our '3 Cs' test for holiday cottages with flying colours."
1 is it clean? 2 is it comfortable? 3 is it convenient? We have had a marvellous holiday with painting and photography and warmly recommend 'the Old Barn'. Sally and David are very friendly and helpful and the animals are lovely and friendly too. We actually had good weather nearly every day as well!. David and Margaret
Thank-you for your wonderful feedback and we are so glad that we passed your '3C's' test! It was a pleasure to meet you and thank-you for sharing your wonderful artwork with us too. Property Owner

"A lovely compact cottage which is perfectly located on the approaches to Wasdale, within walking distance of the Inn at Nether Wasdale and with walking access straight onto the hills at Greendale."
Plenty of space for four, beautifully equipped and maintained, with great facilities for hikers, on a working farm which adds to charm. Very highly recommended.
Thank-you for your great feedback and recommendation. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family and to hear that you enjoyed your stay here. It is a beautiful part of the Lake District and we are lucky to be in a position to access both hills and pubs!! We shall look forward to welcoming you here again soon. Property Owner

"Myself and friend stayed in Old barn, we loved it."
The cottage has lovely character and everything you need to enjoy your stay. The outside space was great to sit in after a day's walking. There are also friendly farm cats and dogs about, and loose chickens. It also has the added bonus of hill walking straight from the door, we did Middle Fell, Seatallan and Buckbarrow (all Wainwright's) straight from the door. I will hopefully be back in the future!
Thank you for your positive feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and the company of our many animals! You certainly smashed the Wainwright's!! We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

"We had a wonderful time here."
The owners are very friendly and helpful. The house was very nice and clean. It actually looks a lot nicer than the photos. The location is perfect for walks and chilling out. It’s very baby friendly as well. There are high chair, cot, toys and friendly cat. We will definitely go back again.
It was so lovely to meet you all and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Sweep, our friendly cat, has really missed all the attention you gave her! We look forward to seeing you again. Thank-you. Property Owner

"A wonderful stay."
Sally-Anne and David are generous and meticulous hosts. Everything was perfect and the location excellent if you want to truly get away from things.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. It is always a pleasure to meet guests who can fully appreciate what a beautiful place this location is. Property Owner

"We had a really comfortable and relaxing first time stay in The old barn cottage, with everything we could of needed ,the owners were lovely and a joy to engage with."

"Great cottage, great hosts and the best walking in the lakes on the doorstep."
Pub in the village, highly recommended
We couldn't wish for better feedback. Thank-you. So pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. The pub in the village will also welcome your 'highly recommended' rating too! Property Owner

"Excellent facilities, great hosts, lovely location."
One of the best properties we’ve stayed in. Directions to cottage were clear, everything was spotlessly clean and good quality kitchenware, furnishings and bedding. Generous welcome pack of goodies and an appearance at the kitchen window of the handsome cockerel! Would definitely recommend and happy to book again.
What amazing feedback. Thank-you. We would welcome you back anytime. Property Owner

"Lovely place to stay for a week's hiking around the Lakes."
Friendly owners and comfortable cottage - has just about everything you need and more. We were able to put our bikes in their barn and there was a really handy freezer and drying room in another barn opposite which meant wet and smelly coats/footwear didn't have to go in the cottage! There are some great walks from the doorstep - although be warned that "the Screes" walk isn't at all easy. A short drive (10 mins or so) to National Trust car park at Wasdale puts you at the start of a host of classic mountain hikes including Scafell Pike and many others. Also a short drive (5 mins) takes you to some great areas for swimming and paddleboarding - but leave early to make sure you can park. Our first time this side of the Scafell massif but we'd definitely come back.
Thank you for your very informative feedback and positive comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here and that you would like to return. Property Owner
-
"A lovely cosy cottage in a great location with friendly and helpful hosts."
Thank you!
Lovely to meet you both again. Thankyou for your great feedback. Perhaps we'll see you in the future when you visit the area to complete even more of the Wainwrights! Property Owner

"Excellent in every respect."
The level of provision and personal concern for our enjoyment of our stay could not have been better and were very much appreciated. The warmth and good humour of our welcome, the very generous welcome pack, the decor , furnishing and lighting of the accommodation, the floral displays in the patio area, provision of a variety of walks guides, suggested additional routes that we would have missed otherwise, the generous supply of wood for the wood fire, had we decided to light it. One feature of the accommodation we have not come across is one Sykes would do well to recommend to all its property owners, viz. low level green safety lighting on staircases, which came on automatically at night.
Thank you so much for your generous and informative feedback. It was lovely to chat with you both and to find out your personal connections to the area - especially that of your grandfather! Keep enjoying the walking and exploring! Property Owner
-
"Thank you to Sally Anne and David for providing us with a beautifully appointed cottage for our week long holiday."
A great welcome pack on arrival. Kitchen was well provided with pots pans and utensils etc. Cottage was spotlessly clean. The large shower with loads of hot water was terrific after walking in the hot weather. Lots of low level walks from the doorstep for those who can't manage climbing the fells. The farm setting was tremendous. David even put my mind at ease about walking through his cattle. Yes they were no bother. We would love to visit again.11 out 10.
11 out of 10 - we couldn't ask for better feedback! Thank-you. It was lovely to meet you both and to chat & laugh with you about your days out. We shall look forward to seeing you again. Property Owner
-
"Definitely the most beautiful place we have stayed."
We are usually starting to feel ready to go home at the end of the week; we certainly weren't this time. Very warm welcome from the property owners as well. Just a delight to spend some time there.
So pleased that you enjoyed this beautiful part of Cumbria. Lovely to meet you both & hope that your arm is now better following your fall. Property Owner
-
"David and Sally-Ann were excellent hosts."
They went beyond normal hospitality to make sure our stay was first class. As many have stated, the arrival hamper was exceptional. Although we were very well prepared, there is a well stocked Budgens about 12 min drive away. This was a perfect place to enjoy our honeymoon. Thanks again to David and Sally-Ann. Mike and Amanda
It was great to know that you chose to spend your honeymoon here and that you rated your stay as 'first class'. Thank-you. Once again we would like to extend our Congratulations to you as you begin your married life. Best wishes. Property Owner
-
"Thank you Sally Ann and David, we enjoyed our stay at the cottage."
The area was outstanding with fantastic mountain views. Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us so the mountains were clouded most days but we did manage to see the tops on a couple of days. I have always wanted to stay on a farm and we were happy to see the newborns, lambs and calves. The cottage was comfortable and spotless and the welcome pack was very much appreciated. Barbara and Ron
Thank you for your positive feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here in this fabulous area despite the inclement weather! You chose the right time to stay on a farm when wanting to see the newborns - we have a busy season ahead! Lovely to meet you both. Property Owner
-
"Lovely cottage, well equipped with everything we needed."
Very nice welcome pack -more than we'd expect. Cottage nice and warm and shower powerful and hot which was great to return to after some damp walks.Sally Ann very friendly and informative. Definitely would like to return
So pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope that your hunting for a property in The Lakes is successful - any help you need with that - don't hesitate to get in touch! We shall look forward to seeing you in the future. All the best. Property Owner
-
"Great walks from the door around the valley or up onto the fells."
We were well looked after.
Thank you for your kind comments. Lovely to meet you and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay here. The weather during the week was decent showing the fells and valley at their best during the winter months. Property Owner
-
"Fantastic accommodation in such a beautiful part of the Lake District."
The Old Barn is perfectly located for walking and exploring the local area. It was also very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The hosts were very friendly. We would strongly recommend.
Thankfully the weather was kind(ish!) to you and you managed to get some walks done! Thank-you for your positive feedback and for recommending us too. We shall look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner

"The two cottages in the grounds of a well maintained and interesting farm were a really great base and situated at the entrance to Wasdale were perfectly convenient for our active holiday enjoying walking in the fells surrounding Wasdale and swimming in Wastwater."
Very comfortable, in excellent condition and well kitted out. Welcoming, friendly helpful and thoughtful landlords.
It was a pleasure to meet you all. The valley is a great place for an active group like yourselves and we are pleased that you managed to get the most out of your weeks stay with us. Thank-you for your positive feedback. Property Owner
-
"Fantastic cottage - one of the best we have stayed in."
Comfortable bed, lovely hot shower, great outdoor courtyard for sitting enjoying the evening sun and the welcome-basket goodies. A good location for walking (we were bagging Wasdale's Wainwrights) but we'd love to go back for a more relaxing week, perhaps in autumn/winter when we could make best use of the wood-burning stove!
It was lovely to meet you both and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the beautiful Wasdale valley. It was a real bonus that you got some good weather and were able to enjoy sitting out in the evening after enjoying Wainwrights walks! We shall look forward to welcoming you back in the autumn and guarantee it will be a cozy treat with the fire lit! Property Owner
-
"The cottage was wonderful - clean, well equipped and comfortable."
The owners, Sally-Ann and David are friendly and very helpful. We were made to feel very welcome. There was also a fine and very generous welcome pack. The cottage is in the farm yard and there are chickens wandering freely. You can also watch a wide variety of birds visiting the many feeders. It's a great base for walking in Wasdale with several good walks accessable straight from the door. There's a great tea room and farm shop (The Sawmill - great for lunches and coffee and cakes) and a fine pub (The Strands Inn - wide range of beers and good, substantial meals); both are about a 15 minute walk away. If you're looking to stay in the area we heartily recommend The Old Barn. (Buy some of the farm’s eggs whilst you're there - they're delicious!)
Thank-you for all your wonderful comments and positive feedback. It was good to meet you both & chat to you about your walking adventures. I was jealous that i couldn't join you for a pint as the garden was calling!! Property Owner
-
"Loved our stay (wife and two children 12 and 10) at the farm and Sally Ann and David were great hosts."
We had a great tour of the farm and even got to see newly born twin cows! The location is perfect for Scafell Pike and surrounding areas for walking, riding etc. Welcome pack was great and the property exactly as described. Highly recommended! Thank you
Your level of fitness put us to shame! Tackling Scafell Pike in the morning and gorge walking in the afternoon just wore me out thinking about it! The twins have just gone out to pasture today with their mum and dad. Thank-you all for taking such an interest in our farm. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here. Property Owner
-
"A very relaxing week in a lovely traditional cottage set on a farm with fabulous views every direction you looked."
Sally Ann and David were very friendly and always had time to stop and chat or share their huge knowlege of the area giving great suggestions on walks long or short to suit all. We saw a calf being born and taking its first steps! Wonderful special week exactly what we needed.Thankyou.
It was so lovely to meet you both and we were happy to give suggestions on various walks in the area (& pleased that we didn't lose you!). Our new addition to the farm is doing well. She has been named "Super Sue" after our wonderful friend and great neighbour. Property Owner
-
"A clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage in an excellent location."
There were many good walks to be had in the immediate area including straight from the door. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and they had provided a generous welcome pack including some delicious fresh eggs from their farm. We very much enjoyed our stay.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay here, the welcome pack and the eggs. You even managed to get some good weather too! Lovely to meet you. Property Owner

"The Old Barn was a lovely cottage set in a beautiful location on a working farm."
We loved seeing the chickens running about the yard and other birds flying around. David and Sally Ann were really welcoming.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here. You did a lot of walking - an unbelievable 16 Wainwrights achieved in the week!!! That must be a record for anyone staying here. Well done. Property Owner
-
"Excellent cottage."
Superb and caring hosts. Resulted in an exceptionally good holiday. Perfect for my husband walking on the Wasdale peaks. My son mountain biking. My grandson loved the farm and animals. I had a really relaxing time in the delightful garden, reading and enjoying the lovely weather that we were fortunate to all experience.
We are so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay at our cottage during a spell of very welcomed fine April weather. Hopefully you will soon be back to full fitness and able to join in with the fell walking, rather than having to check John's progress on The Screes through binoculars! It was a pleasure to meet you all. Property Owner
-
"The owners David and Sally couldn’t have been more welcoming, helpful and generous."
The cottage is warm and comfortable and it was lovely to see the dogs, cats and animals on this working farm. Thank you Chris and John
Thank you for your kind and positive feedback. Although the weather was a bit chilly you were able to enjoy some lovely walks during the week and we hope you enjoyed your trip down memory lane on your way back home too. It was a pleasure to meet you both. Property Owner

"The cottage was comfortable, characterful and well equipped."
The outdoor area was great, with the interest of the farmyard around you along with your own attractive space for soaking up the sun in the daytime and stargazing at night (weather permitting..) We were able to do a wide range of spectacular walks direct from the property. The owners could not have been more friendly and accommodating. Would recommend.
It was lovely to chat to you about your various days out rambling. Thankfully you enjoyed our cottage, even with the nosy sheep peeping through the kitchen window!. The beautiful March sunshine and fabulous night skies were also a bonus for your week spent here. Property Owner
-
"Nice cozy cottage."
Generous heating. Fabulous area for walking etc.
It was a shame that the weather had not been better for your photography and bird watching ...... but hope you enjoyed the Woodlands Tea Room en-route home. Property Owner
-
"Lovely cozy cottage, very clean and well equipped."
A drying room was also available , which was very useful. Sally-Anne and David were very friendly , and welcoming , and gave us useful information about the local area , and suggestions for walks. The welcome pack was appreciated , and the farm eggs were delicious. We will definitely go back.
Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay here (& the eggs!) and were happy to give recommendations on walks in the area. I hope that your friend has recovered from her injury so that she can join you on your next adventures! Property Owner

"Sally and David were extremely welcoming hosts and on hand whenever required."
The welcome pack was a lovely surprise and the cottage clean, warm, well equipped and inviting. We had a very peaceful and relaxing week in this beautiful part of Cumbria, despite the wet weather, and look forward to returning soon. Sadly, the drying room was required daily, but was a real bonus! Thanks again for sharing your lovely cottage with us. David and Susie
-
"Excellently stocked for self catering."
Very warm and comfortable cottage. Enjoyed the woodburner. Sally-Anne and David were welcoming, kind and informative. Wasdale is beautiful. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
-
"The cottage is comfortable and well equipped."
There was a dishwasher, separate freezer and drying room that weren't listed. we were given a welcome pack which was much appreciated. The cottage is in a great location for walking and Scaefel Pike is minutes away.
-
"David and Sally-Anne were epic hosts!"
thank you for every thing!
-
"Sally Anne and David were wonderful hosts."
Gave us plenty of information on the local area.Think my wife is an expert on Berwick sheep!!Would highly recommend and hope to be back next year.

"My husband and I had a wonderful stay in this cottage for our wedding anniversary."
The cottage had everything we needed, including some delicious eggs from the farm itself. We loved being surrounded by lambs, chickens and cows, and the farm attracted plenty of birdlife too. The location was excellent - close to Wastwater but very quiet. Our hosts were very friendly and close by if we needed anything. We went on some excellent walks and my husband managed to scale both peaks at the top of the Screes while I read books in the sunshine by the lake and outside our cottage. It was a beautiful, peaceful break that wasn't spoiled by the two days of rain that we had - you have to expect some ups and downs in the weather when you're in the Lakes! The Screes pub in Nether Wasdale, a mile away, offered some excellent ale and food, albeit outside due to COVID rules. We also had some lovely ice cream from the Sawmill cafe, which is also a farm shop. There wasn't much else open/to do in the immediate vicinity other than walking, due to a combination of the remote location and COVID, but we didn't care - it was exactly what we needed after spending the pandemic stuck at home. We'll definitely return to Wastwater and this cottage in the near future, if only so my husband can knock a few more of the big fells by Wastwater off his list!
-
"Sally-Anne and David were marvellous hosts, very busy during lambing, but always happy to chat when we wanted."
The Old Barn is a really lovely place to stay for a real lakeland farming experience. Everything is excellent quality and with lots of thoughtful touches, such as flowers and wine. Very comfortable beds and large shower with plenty of hot water. This is a quiet location (as we wanted) with fantastic access to the hills for walking and some great cycling too. Nice pub in Nether Wasdale serving meals outside. Even the weather was perfect all week - sunny and dry. We didn't want to leave, but will surely be back again to this fabulous cottage and part of the Lake District. Thanks again Sally-Anne and David.
-
"The Old Barn is a lovely cottage with all you need."
A perfect location with walks from the door into the hills and valleys with the beautiful Wastwater lake minutes away. A few lovely cafes and pubs close by. Sally and David were great hosts.
-
"Warm, cosy cottage well equiped, very friendly and helpful owners."
Lovely location great walks from the cottage, one of the nicest places we have stayed, definitely recommend and go back again.
-
"Beautiful well equipped cottage with everything you need and perfect location"
-
"My second visit to The Old Barn - I rarely go back to the same cottage twice, tho I come up to the Lakes 2 or 3 times a year."
But this is my all time favourite! I love everything about this cottage - the farm setting, the lovely hosts, the fells right in the doorstop, the unspoilt area, the cosy homely feel once inside regardless of the weather outside!
-
"Great location on a working farm ."
Very genuine greeting from the hosts . Around 20 minutes walk to the pub , take a torch to let the very occasional passing car know that you are there . Very comfortable beds . All facilities well laid out and thought through . Great walking straight from the door .
-
"A compact and cosy cottage, centre terrace next to owners home."
Sally-Anne and David, (owners), were very welcoming, never intrusive and on hand should help be needed. It was the attention to detail that impressed us. The little things that often go unnoticed - plenty of drinks coasters including in the bedrooms, two sets of table mats, several full sets of 4 glasses, extra cups and spare loo rolls! It was a late booking for us and the weather was good and we so pleased that The Old Barn was available for our short stay.
-
"We had a lovely holiday."
Managed to do some mountain walks and cottage very comfortable and a pleasure to return to each day. Loved the peaceful location and the farm animals.
-
"The most wonderful location in the wildest and most beautiful part of England."
Our hosts were very friendly and pleasant . The cottage was ideal for our needs. We intend to return soon
-
"Lovely rural location with two good pubs in the village."
Great location for easy access to western mountains. Pretty front yard that we found perfect for BBQs. Owners very welcoming and helpful.
-
"A very well kept cottage in a fantastic location."
We didn't have any problems or issues and were very happy with the owners of Woodhow farm.
-
"The location was absolutely brilliant, for us the Wast Water is the best part of the Lakes district, the unspoiled beauty of the lake surrounded by the magnificent Scafell Pikes all without the hubbub of Windermere or Coniston Water."
The cottage itself is lovely, very comfortable with modern conveniences and appointments, the welcome pack with fresh milk, eggs and treats was appreciated too. By far the best thing was the hosts Sally Ann and David a more friendly and welcoming couple would be hard to imagine, they went above and beyond to help us plan our stay with many hints and advice on local attractions and to top it off helped us organise the route for our next leg on our journey.
-
"Great location and comfortable cottage, lots to see and do great walking area."
-
"Really nice accommodation in a great area."
Sally-Anne & David were excellent hosts. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
-
"This cottage was an absolute delight everything you needed was supplied and set in a beautiful location Our hosts Sally-Anne and David were fantastic and were very helpful in providing information for places to visit."
We left a week later feeling like we were leaving old friends.
-
"The area surrounding the cottage is beautiful with some lovely walks nearby which the owner Sally Anne helpfully pointed out to us."
The cottage was cosy, comfortable, and well-equipped. There were some nice touches like milk in the fridge, eggs and a little welcome basket with biscuits and sweets. The farmers showed us their animals and even let us feed one of the baby lambs which our three-year old daughter was delighted by. The welcome was very friendly and Sally Anne gave us some good tips on child-friendly places to visit. There are nice pubs in the nearby hamlet Nether Wasdale and the village of Gosforth. The pizza place in Gosforth The Wild Olive was especially tasty and even did takeways which were very popular! There was a lovely playground there. We found many child-friendly places within an hour's drive such as Muncaster castle with stunning views (the meadow vole maze went down especially well), the Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick, the Maryport Aquarium and the Lake District Wildlife park. Altogether it was a great holiday, went too quickly and can't wait to go back. And it didn't even matter it was raining half the time it was still gorgeous!
-
"The location is superb for walkers who are looking to explore that part of the Lakes, with a classic circular Lakes walk right from the door."
I don’t think the website makes enough of this. My only criticism, which is v small, is that it would be a good idea for a sign to be put on the kitchen cupboard door which is above what I assume to be the boiler (that door was locked) warning people not to put their chocolate in there!
-
"A fantastic location, and the welcome pack added that little extra touch."
Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone
-
"Sally-Ann and David were very friendly and busy owners running their own farm, was lovely to see the animals especially the newborn lambs."
Cottage was cosy, comfortable, warm and very well equipped. Beds were the best we've ever slept in on holiday! With the lake just up the road this cottage couldn't be better placed for visiting the beautiful Wastwater. Will certainly recommend and will hope to return ourselves another year.
-
"This cottage was absolutely fantastic."
It was everything you need and so much more! The hosts, David and Sally are very helpful with needs you might have and they both are so kind. Sally is like google....so helpful with ideas to make your holiday perfect. We wish we could have stayed 2 weeks!!
-
"Lovely well equipped, warm and cozy cottage which is well."
Placed to enjoy the beauty of the area. Charming hosts. We will definately return.
-
"The Old Barn was lovely, clean, comfortable and cosy."
Fresh garden flowers on the table were a lovely touch as were fresh eggs, milk and a variety of chocolate biscuits. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the stunning scenery and hope to return one day. Sally Ann and David were very welcoming hosts and we even saw some newborn lambs!
-
"The cottage is lovely,, well furbished and had everything that we needed."
We really enjoyed the log burning fire. Sally Anne and David were very welcoming and helpful and had left some biscuits, milk and local juice for us. Set on a working farm and a short stroll to Wastwater, it is a perfect place for nature lovers and walkers.
-
"The hosts are very helpful and a pleasure to meet."
The cottage is in a beautiful location.
-
"This cottage is a hidden gem in some of the most scenic areas of the Lake District."
Both Sally-Ann and David made arriving a pleasure and the cottage itself is fantastic. Nestled in a working farm this cottage is ideal for those who enjoy leaving the hustle and bustle of urban life for somewhere much quieter and relaxing. For the outdoors person, you can walk straight from the cottage up on to the hills and for those seeking a drink and good food there are two fantastic pubs within 5 minutes of the cottage. This is by far the best cottage I have stayed in to date and will be making a return in the near future.
-
"The location of the cottage is perfect."
We could walk to the village pub or Wastwater with ease The accommodation was cosy and warm with everything we needed and more. Our hosts were lovely and very helpful. We plan to return same time next year
-
"Sally-Anne and David made us feel very welcome."
We had a chat about what we could do in the area and their local knowledge was invaluable. The Old Barn is a cozy two bedroomed accommodation, warm and well appointed. It is centrally heated but we also had a log fire which added to it's ambience. A great place to stay and walk right from the door or just enjoy the peace and quiet.
-
"Not only was the cottage well appointed, with thoughtful and helpful details, but the owners were kind, considerate, helpful and even allowed us to be a part of caring for the local animals."
The location is perfect and you don't need to go far once you're there. We re-booked before we even left!
-
"Our hosts were extremely helpful and friendly to the extent giving us a lift into the village to catch last food orders on our first night."
Lovely people.
-
"The house was lovely with a great welcome."
It's on a working farm that is still very quiet. The owners could not do enough for us and I would recommend it to anyone. Many thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack, free eggs and cut flowers that lasted almost the week!
-
"Very comfortable cottage with everything supplied for a great holiday."
Sally-Anne and David are excellent hosts. We hope to return and would definitely recommend.
-
"The cottage is home from home."
Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owners are very friendly and nothing is too much. A very family friendly place to stay and I highly recommend it.

"Fantastic accommodation and the setting is wonderful."
We had a really good week and we managed to climb Scafell Pike not bad for two 65 year olds it was very exhilarating. Great area so much to see and do will def. return Dave & Barbara (Hull)
-
"The cottage was lovely but what really made the stay were the owners, Dave & Sally, who lived next door."
They made us feel really welcome and showed our 6 year daughter the farm animals: bullocks, new born chicks and lambs. Even letting her feed the lambs their bottles which she was very excited about. The cottage is in a quiet location and extremely handy for Wass Water, Scafell Pike & Great Gable. Dave recommended local pubs to eat in and even phoned one to book us a table. We’d strongly recommend this quaint little cottage.
-
"Very well equipped cottages, with warm and welcoming hosts"
-
"The owners were very friendly and helpful."
Nothing was a problem and highly recommended hosts.
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage in a fabulous location."
The owners couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. We would definitely return.
-
"The accommodation was well located for walks in and around Wasdale."
The cottage was warm, very comfortable and well equipped. The hosts very friendly and welcoming. It is on a working farm which comes with added interests. At the time of our stay a cow calved and many lambs were born. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here. Marianne and Terry

About the location
NETHER WASDALE
Gosforth 3.9 miles; Santon Bridge 2.3 miles
Nether Wasdale is a small village situated to the west of Wastwater, the deepest lake in Great Britain. The village is well-served with two pubs, one with its own brewery, a farm shop and café selling local produce and ice cream. This area is the birthplace of climbing and is a superb base for climbing, hiking and all outdoor pursuits. Unlike many lakes, motorised boats are forbidden on Wastwater though canoeing and kayaking are perfect for these unspoilt and tranquil waters which add to the peace and serenity of this stunning part of the Lake District National Park. Wastwater is sided by The Screes and at the head of the lake the fells of Great Gable and Scafell Pike can be reached, popular with hikers and climbers alike. The view from the summit of Great Gable is said to be the finest view in Britain. At Wasdale Head is the church of St. Olaf, one of the smallest churches in England, dating back to 1550 and its beams are said to have come from Viking long boats. Close by are the villages of Santon Bridge and Gosforth.
