  • "Second visit to this cottage and once again it did not disappoint."

The beds are super comfy, the bathroom is spacious with a great shower and the living/kitchen/ dining area has everything you would need. The furnishings are good quality and comfortable and have been updated since the photos on the listing were taken along with new flooring. Very practical for muddy boots and paws. The location with direct access to the river is perfect and if you are a paddle boarder or canoeist serve as your own launch site. There is some good outside space (not enclosed) with appropriate furniture if you get the weather and even a bench on the riverside. Great base for the Western Lakes area and Grizedale Forrest with some good walks direct from the property. The owners obviously look after the property very well. Loved our stay and will return.

  • "The cottage was located with a great view, generally was presented in a clean condition."

The only fault we found was in the smaller bedroom there was black mould just above the skirting board, which due to the location next to the river i would imagine would be difficult to keep at bay. The cottage facilities were very good and would recommend family to stay.

  • "Superb stay at the cottage."

Everything you could need for a weeks stay. Only issue was the noise from the apartment upstairs. Guys other people have commented on this in previous reviews. It really would benefit from some soundproofing on main areas. This would deter us from booking again which is a real shame as it’s probably the best cottage we have rented in a long time.

  • "The property is cosy and ideally located, very quiet and calm by the lake."

Very clean, with all the utensils once might need. Including teas, coffee and sparkling water at arrival. There is also a torch! No fault of the owner but previous guests hadn't cleared their dog's poo from the garden, and there was a lot. So that should be taken seriously as it was really not pleasant especially for our dog. But the whole experience was smooth to check in, out and we enjoyed our stay.

Our 4 legged friend loved taking a daily dip in the river and very much enjoyed her holiday too. A Lovely place to stay, great scenery looking over the water outside the door.

  • "Generally the property was clean and finished to a high specification."

The location is superb. However, the bedrooms, esp the smaller one, are very small, not suitable for four adults -considering the cost. The dishwasher did not work properly. You would need very long arms to work the blinds in the kitchen. We got very wet once and found that there was a lack of drying space for coats/ footwear. It was impossible to keep the bathroom floor dry due to the small size of the basin and the force or the tap.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location."

Very well appointed, clean and cosy. The owners are generous with a welcome tray and loo rolls etc. There is a slight chemical smell in the cottage and the owners had left reed diffusers around. I have quite a sensitive sense of smell and don’t like the constant odour from reed diffusers, so I put them away in a cupboard and found that if we kept the cottage well aired, the chemical smell could not build up. Apart from this slight problem, we had a wonderful stay in the area. The listing says ‘riverside garden with furniture’ but there was just a bench. It would be nice if the owners had added a table. Some folding chairs would have been great, so we could spend time sitting by the river.

  • "A lovely stay, everything you could want - comfy, homely and well appointed."

Shame we couldn’t book beautiful weather but with the walks and activities on the doorstep we couldn’t fault our few days away in the fresh air. The location on the riverbank was beautiful and the pub across the bridge a nice luxury! An easy mile walk to Lakeside dock for the steam train and cruiser for Windermere was also a big plus and meant we didn’t need to use the car whilst there - result. Overall very happy with our break and glad we chose Riverside.

  • "Lovely cottage perfect for our needs by the river with access to 2 pubs."

Unsure if the heating has been checked after winter because there was a damp smell when we arrived and noticed air fresheners.around as if the heating had been turned off and just put on? Carried on though but noticed it was freezing on the second morning when we got up and the heating was off and was rung later in the day to say heaters were being brought as there was a problem with the heating. I have to say a bit disappointed for the amount we have paid. Also got the window cleaner at breakfast just as we were sitting down i had had a shower but was not dressed, cleaning the windows. I understand they need to be done but later in the day would have been good. Apart from that lovely situation. met the swans in the morning which was lovely.

It has everything you would need, including, lovely thick fluffy towels, nespresso, washing machine&dryer(even some washing pods), ironing board &iron, dishwasher(although i never use them) hoover, every cleaning product you'd need, loo roll, hand wash, tea towels etc. I had taken a lot of these but came home with them. Lovely little touch of bottles of water,biscuits,teas/coffee,pods were very much appreciated, thank you. Gorgeous surroundings out front, patio area, grass with benches in front of the lovely river Leven.Amazing views from the living room window. lovely pubs 5 mins walk, The Swan & The Huntsman, lovely nice food in both and so friendly, Great position to drive anywhere in the Lakes. Nearest shops 10 mins to Ulverston,Booths is a lovely supermarket, fab pet shop with such friendly staff willing to give you advice on where to visit. The only thing we had abit of an issue with was the people in the apartment above us. We could hear every step they made, Im not sure if they wer exceptionally heavy footed buyt it soundeed like sosmeone was running a marathon in gthe style of an elephant . I did bring this to their attention in the nicest possible way, but was met with a lack of understanding and rudeness. I know you will hear each other and thats fine but they took the mickey. Hopefully this was just this family. Other than that blip we had an amazing time and would highly recommend Lakeside Hideaway.

This is our second stay here , great to walk to The Swan or Newby Bridge Hotel for a meal although footpaths are incredibly dark . Only negatives Our first stay the cottage smelt very doggy but not so the second time , we lit the fire but the smoke came out the front and into the room so we had to put it out again. The outside light was out on both stays and definitely needed as you approach the door . Will definitely stay here again though , loved it.

Was disappointed that logs were not included for use of the log fire. The price paid to stay here should include logs. There was not double parking, room for 1 car only as a residents van was parked in the space the whole time. No basic condiments like salt and pepper and only 2 toilet rolls. Other than these small points we loved our stay.

The property

A real treat of a retreat by the River Leven! Full of character and cosiness, Riverside Hideaway is a romantic ground-floor portion of a traditional Lakeland Barn sleeping four people on the beautiful banks of the river flowing south from Lake Windermere.

Enjoy the stunning countryside, river and lake access, explore the surrounding South Lakes, and look forward to special home comfort to return to each evening! Entrance: Ground level private entrance to the living space. Living-area: Newly refurbished, cosy yet bright lounge with character beams, deep-cushioned furnishings and a view over the water.

Neat, well-equipped kitchen open to the dining area, which also has superb views. Bedroom 1: A charming spacious master double bedroom. Bedroom 2: A cosy second bedroom with 4ft bed. Bathroom: Modern shower room. Outside: Magical riverside gardens and furnished patio overlooking the water.

Private parking for 2 cars right outside the apartment. The cosy accommodation has all you need, wrapped in rustic character and set in a charmingly relaxing location.

Contemporary style and country charm mingle here, and provide a great environment to get together and let those everyday cares fade away.

And your shared riverside garden is the ideal spot for picnicking, fishing and canoeing!

One of the great advantages of Riverbank Hideaway is its proximity to one of the finest inns in the Lakes, the well-loved Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge.

Although you are pleasingly secluded in the shared garden grounds of Riverside House, you are only the shortest of strolls from the log fires, ambient atmosphere and excellent gastro-pub food of the Swan.

There is a superb beer garden here for you to sit and sip a cold ale and discuss your days adventures as the river slides past, and the hotel also offers luxurious spa facilities and a swimming pool. The walking opportunities nearby are vast, and the lower rolling hills of the south give way to the high central Lakeland peaks the further north you journey.

Gummer's How, one of the prettiest fells in the area is just a stone's throw away, and the views from here are truly awe-inspiring.

Lake Windermere has plenty of paths by the lakeshore, and we recommend a stroll at Fellfoot Park, a beautifully Victorian lakeside leisure spot with boat hire available.

Just a little drive away east of Windermere is the green and fertile Lyth Valley, famed for its lush beauty and yearly damson crop. Lakeside and Newby Bridge have so many attractions, including an excellent aquarium, a historic railway, and a steamer stop for Lake Windermere.

With the natural beauty of the area to explore too, you are ensured a full and fulfilling holiday.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

NEWBY BRIDGE

Bowness-on-Windermere 8 miles.

The small village of Newby Bridge takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, plus the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and admire the views at nearby Gummer's How.
