  • "Pro's - Peaceful setting - Decent size property and garden (albeit half is on a steep slope) - Mostly comfortable bed and lounge."

    - House temperature was good. Con's - No terrestrial TV (not in description), and so you need to take all logon details for Streaming i.e. BBC Iplayer, ITVX etc. (don't forget to sign out again before you leave) - Description said 'french doors onto patio - it isn't, and so no way to know if the dog is ok or wants to come in. - It said Lakeside hotel and bar is 'a couple of minutes' walk - more like 15 mins, partly on a tricky road. BTW the main oven doesn't seem to work, and a wall shaving mirror in the bathroom would be good.

Thank you for your feedback. There is terrestrial TV on the TV, it is on the green app labelled Live TV; Lakeside Hotel is a 9 minute walk along the main road or if you go round the back road of TOPH (past High Dam) and through Finnsthwaite, along the West Windermere section of the pathway, it is a 15 minute walk. The oven has to be switched on at the large red switch on the kitchen wall. A portable LED lit mirror is provided in the bathroom for shaving/makeup. I am just sorry that you didn’t raise some of your concerns whilst you were staying in the house as we could have provided solutions to some of your cons and given advice on the area. • "We booked the cottage from Saturday to Thursday but for personal reasons we were only able to arrive on Sunday late afternoon."

We found the cottage cold, only 12 C degrees because the boiler was faulty therefore no hot water also. I have managed to call the emergency number found on the app. Within 2 hours a maintenance guy came, he could not fix the boiler but he gave us two electric heaters and turn on the water tank in the loft which supplied us with hot water, but took 3-4 hours to heat up which meant we could not take hot shower that night either. I am glad he came quickly but we still had to drive out in the evening to buy wood to able to fire up the wood burner. Two electric heathers would only heat up upstairs sufficiently. The situation was far from ideal with two elderly people and a 4 month old baby. Next morning (Monday) maintenance team called that someone will come that day to fix the boiler at some point. We were out all day, when we arrived around 6pm looked like noone has been to check. Next morning (Tuesday) when I called the maintenance team for update they said that someone was there yesterday but now waiting for a part to be able to fix the boiler. But noone updated us with this information I had to chase. I also asked them to supply us with more electric heater and wood, as that point we already spent almost £50 on fire wood. That day we received plenty of wood and another heater, which was great but to be honest it should have happened automatically on that day when they found out that the boiler can not be fixed instantly, and not me chasing for it. Eventually we were okay after wood and another heater supplied. The boiler engineer arrived on Wednesday evening (our last night) but he still could not fix the boiler. The area and the cottage was amazing otherwise. The cleanliness was not perfect , the living room had dog hair everywhere especially on the cushions and sofas, we took our dogs too but we don't let them sit on furniture at home either but at least it should have been hoovered. Other thing, it was left 1 dishwasher tablet for us, no salt , no oil or sugar no kitchen foil. 1 bin bag ( even though Tuesday was bin collection day , so we had nothing to use after Tuesday, washing up liquid bottle under the sink was empty. 3 rolls of toilet paper for 6 of us to last for 4 nights/5 days? Were we supposed to arrive with all those? So we had to buy those. I feel that all this could have been avoided if someone comes from maintenance team to check the property before the next let to avoid everyone's disappointment. If not this our stay would have scored 10 out of 10. Thank you

Hi, apologies for the lack of heating on your arrival - the boiler has now been replaced.I am pleased we were able to respond quickly and provide sufficient warmth and hot water for your stay. The cleaners are excellent and will check for dog hairs. As a self-catering cottage we provide a welcome kitchen cleaning pack and sundries including tinfoil/washing liquid/tablet/teas/coffee pods/salt/pepper/toilet rolls/bin bag/ etc. Supermarket deliveries can be ordered to the door on arrival.Thank you. • "The property is lovely and very comfortable."

It is very bright and excellent value for money in a fantastic picturesque location. The garden is not fully enclosed, so bear this in mind if taking your dog. Theres a need for additional storage in the bedrooms for clothes and I think a more comfortable cot needs to be provided. The mattress is very thin in the travel cot so our baby had to co sleep for the week as she was waking frequently in the cot. However these are all minor issues and overall we had a wonderful week. We had a mouse issue that was very quickly rectified by the owner and the maintenance company. I would have given a 4/5 score if we'd not had this issue as it was difficult to feel comfortable for a few days, but knowing how quickly it was sorted, it wouldn't stop me from returning.

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Old Post House and enjoyed the garden in this lovely warm weather. The boundary of the property is enclosed with hedges and fencing however we do always advise guests to be vigilant with dogs and small children whilst playing in the garden . As we are part of the countryside, surrounded by fields with deer and sheep as well as some amazing walks directly from our doorstep, we often see bunnies, pheasants as well as a variety of other birds and small animals coming and going within our garden. The cot we provide is a standard travel cot, which do have a thin base, but guests are more than welcome to supplement this with their own baby’s mattress for hygiene. All bedrooms provide both hanging space and drawers but I will look into additional storage where it is possible. We look forward to welcoming you back as one of our many other returning guests. • "A wonderful cottage and a wonderful honeymoon!"

One slight niggle, it was advertised as having a washing machine and tumble drier, but there was no tumble drier which caused us a couple of issues as we had 2 young children. However, we still had a great time and would happily stay there again. Didn't want to come home!

Thank you for your feedback and congratulations on your wedding! We are so pleased that you had a lovely stay. Apologies regarding the tumble drier as we had to quickly replace the washing machine two weeks ago. This has been amended on the website since but would not have been at your time of booking; there is an airing rack available under the stairs to dry clothing. We look forward to welcoming you back again. Kind regards, Charlotte Property Owner

  • "There were no instructions on how to turn the heating on ."

We managed to figure out the underfloor hearing but not the radiators upstairs so it was a bit cold upstairs. There were no logs for the fire in the front room either .

Hi, Instructions regarding the heating are in the instruction manual, detailing all house information , which is available for guests to read in the kitchen. Thermostat instructions are in a booklet on top of the kitchen thermostat. The house information also details where logs are able to be purchased locally . All of the heating including the underfloor heating is controlled by thermostatic timers, set at 20 degrees (unless adjusted by previous guests), and we would have been more than happy to advise you during your stay if you contacted us at the time to adjust it to your personal heating preference. Garden is lovely but not enclosed so if taking a dog it’s something to be mindful of. House is well equipped and comfortable, has everything you would need. Really enjoyed our time at the Old Post House

I’m really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at The Old Post House and the fabulous walks we have in the area and thank you for your feedback. The summary of the property does highlight that the garden is not fully enclosed, due to a low wall to the front but the rear and sides are enclosed. We do recommend that children and dogs are supervised whilst enjoying the garden. Kind Regards, Charlotte Gillbanks Property Owner
