  • "On arrival around 8pm the key was not in the key safe."

after a 6 hour drive with a three year old you don't need that. The fridge was warm as it was set to minimum. The freezer wasn't switched on, so also warm. The dishwasher was broken. The gas cooker hob and oven didn't work. The toilet in the ensuite was blocked. There was so much clutter and tat in the property we had no where to put any of our things. Plates cups etc were dirty. The only hand soap was in the kitchen. There were so many scatter cushions on the beds when you took them off to get in to bed there was nowhere to put them out of the way. The hot tub had no chemicals in it after using it twice the water was dark brown and stank. No effort was made to visit this everyday to check the water and change the filter / add chemical to it. It made our bathing wear stink. There were no instructions how to use that. Or the washing machine, or the dishwasher, or even the heating. The outside gate glass door didn't latch properly and when it was pushed home correctly overnight it opened again and banged in the wind. This wasn't our choice of property as we booked number 8 originally which we found backed on to the one we had. We were dismayed to see the owners of our property repeatedly visit the one we had previously booked and subsequently had cancelled, they evidently are 'managing it' along with many other properties on the same site, there was no one staying there which has annoyed us no end as that is where we wanted to stay to start with. Given this I doubt very much we will ever book or recommend this booking site ever again. The Park itself was well kept and ideally located.

I am so sorry to hear all of the above. Plot 8 was sold to a private buyer and I have nothing to do with managing it. The other issues were resolved. We came with keys in 10 minutes with keys as there is a 24 hour warden. I do everything you need in the lodge. If you had contacted us regarding the issues I would have put them right. The plumber came the morning after you said the toilet was blocked. The hot tub was checked and has chemicals. We empty and clean every time. This is my personal lodge and will look all issues raised. There are instructions about the heating on the automated message. Thank you for your feedback as you were only my 3rd booking. Very useful. • "It’s a beautifully decorated property and having the hot tub is an added bonus."

It had everything in the kitchen for a comfortable stay so we could see a lot of thought had gone into it. We appreciate the broken bed being replaced so that we could sleep properly but it would have been nice not to have that in the middle of our stay. The freezer has fungus in it and the fridge wasn’t overly clean. There was leftover bread and biscuits in the kitchen containers but they weren’t sealed so we weren’t sure if it was accidentally left behind or not. It might be an idea to move items in the cupboards into one or two areas so that guests have space to put things? Overall though a lovely place to stay.

Dear Theresa, Thank you for the feedback the fungus was a slight bit of rust which has now been replaced . I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Angie and Chris Property Owner

About the location

ARMATHWAITE

Carlisle 10.2 miles; Penrith 11 miles; North Pennines AONB 11.3 miles.

The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Armathwaite is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the lovely coastline of the Solway Firth. The village has two old pubs, both with popular restaurants serving excellent food, a village Post Office and a traditional village shop. The River Eden runs through the centre of the village, and the area is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, plus walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle, by the river, is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th-century church has fine examples of stained glass windows. The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite, is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets, and is well worth exploring. The local railway station is a stop on the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and where today many old steam trains still wend their way through some of the finest countryside in Britain. The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the "largest grass covered building in the country" or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House, featured in a television production of Jane Eyre. The town is within reach of the Lake District National Park and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing guests with many mountain biking, hiking, and birdwatching opportunities.
