  • "Very comfortable, great location with good access."

We mangaged the whole week without driving from the cottage, everything done from the door.

So glad to hear you enjoyed a comfortable, fun stay at 5HG and that you loved its wonderful location …. as much as we do! Thank you for your almost top marks. Property Owner

Love the cottage and location, it’s so quiet with infinite walks from the door! It would be nice if the garden was fenced to provide privacy and stop dogs wandering but apart from that all good

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your 3rd visit. We hope to welcome you back again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "A lovely cosy comfortable well equipped cottage."

The garden is teeming with wildlife and we saw a red squirrel and a woodpecker right by the back door. This is my second stay and I hope to return. Fantastic location if you want to walk from the door and forget the car and potential traffic. Very helpful owner. Many thanks :)

  • "The location is lovely and has plenty of walks straight from the property."

We would stay again .Property was a little tired, cutlery , crockery and pans could do with replacing , curtain in lounge hanging off hook , one light bulb needs replacing in the lounge , bath panel cracked on corner . Otherwise comfortable as you would expect from a old cottage . The step coming out of the rooms a little dangerous, my 3 year old Grandson came out of the bathroom with his mum missed the step and came down the stairs like a rag doll . Luckily he bounced and did not sustain any injuries. If anyone is going to stay make sure you take water with you for drinking, cooking , brushing you teeth etc water at the cottage is not drinkable . We arrived at 5pm and needed to go into Coniston to get water . After a incredibly long journey by car from Bournemouth we just wanted a cup of tea . It would be a nice gesture to leave 2 bottles for guests on arrival day .

We always take on board and appreciate comments received.... so thank you. Curtain replaced on hook. Lightbulb situ sorted, as is bath panel... now replaced. Crockery, and cutlery , we are confident is of good quality (what we like to use when there) and pans are all of good quality, and again regularly checked. What a relief to hear no injuries sustained when step was missed at top of stairs. Glad to hear you nevertheless enjoyed your stay and would return. Thanks for pointing out “issues” which have been (are in the process of being) attended to. Regarding water … I can’t understand or explain why there was a notice advising guests to use bottled water.. it had been placed in the cottage in error. Our supply passes through a sterilising UV unit, IS REGULARLY CHECKED, MEETS ALL REQUIREMENTS AND IS SAFE TO DRINK. Otherwise some bottles would have been left. Property Owner

  • "Overall very happy with our stay in this cottage."

The secludedness, peace tranquility, fantastic views and location of the cottage far outweigh any of the following, which I hope to be constructive criticism. Cottage would benefit from with a little updating and massive spring clean. It's only a 3 star so did not expect luxury but parts of it could've been cleaner, alot of cobwebs in kitchen corners, doorways, windows, edges of windows particularly velux in top bedroom which still had cracked glass with tape over. All that aside it was very well equipped (again some grubby utensils which we had to wash before use) with everything we needed in THE HEATWAVE week we were there. Couldn't get any hot water from kitchen tap or bathroom tap (luckily shower ok) so false economy as had to boil kettle to wash up. Bit too remote for us, long single track driveway tricky but did match description so we knew this. Again all this aside the positives are we had a great holiday stay, there were only 2 of us, ok for 4 but think would be a struggle with 6.

Glad to learn you spent an enjoyable heatwave week at 5HG finding it comfortable and well equipped also that you seemed wowed by its setting. Thanks for pointing out certain little housekeeping issues that will be addressed. Regarding lack of hot water, if only you had asked about this on arrival! All that was needed was to flick the marked hot water switch above kitchen door to “on”. We are on to the cracked Velux. We are still trying hard to find someone to sort having been let down not once but twice. Property Owner

  • "Lovely, comfortable and homely cottage in a beautiful setting."

Shame about the shabby condition of the neighbouring properties and their gardens, and the unwelcome attention from a large, albeit friendly black Labrador from a neighbours cottage that frightened our smaller dog and kept her indoors.

  • "Fantastic location and the cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable."

The garden looks out onto the fells and is great for bird watching and relaxing. The owner was very helpful with some minor maintenance issues which were dealt with promptly. It was very good to have the second parking place as there is no overnight parking nearby. Coming back next year! Many thanks for a great stay

Thanks for your lovely feedback. Appreciated. Happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. We love being there too..... the location, peace, birdsong, views..... Looking forward to welcoming you back next year. Property Owner

  • "Good points: The cottage was cosy and well-equipped although very limited storage space in the kitchen for food."

There were lots of wet-weather walks from the door or nearby. There are plenty of bigger walks from the door or with a short drive but the weather only allowed us one day of going high. Beware: It would have been a squash for six people. The hot water tap in the bath ran extremely slowly which put us off using it more than once. The lane from the main road is small which is no problem in itself but might be offputting for less-confident drivers; it was awash and the adjacent stream close to breaking its banks on our (very wet) arrival day! Overall: Good value for money and we'd consider returning.

I think I can interpret your feedback as essentially very positive.... good to hear you found it cosy and well equipped. Weather, it seems, could have been better. Sounds as though you had an absolute soaking! Let’s hope your next visit is sunshine-blessed! Property Owner

  • "We had a very enjoyable holiday at Holme Ground Cottage."

The cottage is very comfortable although there is limited storage space in the kitchen. There are some very nice walks from the cottage eg to The Three Shires Inn at Little Langdale or to Holme Fell. We will definitely be returning. The one point that I would note is that the description on the Sykes website refers twice to a welcome tray with coffee, tea, milk and wine. A bottle of wine was indeed provided, but not tea, coffee or milk. This did not affect us. (We brought our own coffee, tea and milk.) However, if a visitor arrived late at night expecting to be able to make a cup of tea or coffee they would be very disappointed. This was also noted by several visitors in the visitor's book for the property. I suggest that either the description on the Sykes website is corrected or the welcome tray described is actually provided.

  • "Cottage is in a great place to explore the quarry and mines, lots of them."

plenty of walks from the door. Short distance to Coniston or Ambleside for shopping or meals out. Washing machine needs attention/repair very very noisy when on spin cycle.(not because its overloaded) Second parking area is not useable when wet as it is only a grass area (got stuck twice) needs to be fixed as no other area is available and it annoys the residents if you park in their places. All parking areas are marked. Was a nice holiday, apart from the three storms.

Happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at, and the location of, 5HG.... despite the three storms. Weren’t you unlucky! Thanks for the alert about the washing machine. A replacement already on its way. We are in the process of arranging a delivery of stones/gravel to improve the second parking area.... for as soon as possible. Property Owner

  • "We had a family adventure arriving during the evening of Storm Arwen."

We lost electricity after cooking supper on the first night and it never came back (same for much of Cumbria) for the rest of our 3 nights stay. The cottage was a delight as we spent evenings sat around the open coal fire with lamps, playing monopoly. Very happy with all the furnishings and beds etc. The cottage is the perfect place to walk from: either for short strolls through the forest, or a much bigger ascent of the nearby 770m peak. We hope to come back as soon as we can!

What troopers you all are! I’m surprised and pleased you managed to enjoy your stay in spite of the mayhem caused by Storm Arwen, and am pleased but not surprised that you were delighted with the cottage. We love to be there .... tho never without power. Hope to welcome you back soon ...... for a stay with electricity! Property Owner
