  • "We were a little apprehensive after reading some reviews, however we found the lodge to be clean, tidy, tastefully decorated and very spacious."

One or two small bits in need of a little maintence, however these were minor and had no impact on the overall quality of our stay. We stayed 2 nights, but would have liked longer and would definitely return. Great property/location and excellent value for money.

  • "The lodge was up for sale as is left in a tired way , we had to ask for additional plates as there was only four , no tvs in the bed and the one in the bunk room had no power leads, the bathroom is in real need of upkeep as paper off the wall around window and back of toilet , spiders and cobwebs in every room, had to clean the hob as what appeared to be the last guests fat spits all over and brown grease , living room floor is lifted , both front door and back bedroom door don’t close properly, overall really disappointed for the price of this lodge."

  • "On arrival we saw a For Sale sign on the front window."

We did a tour of the lodge. On inspection we found that neither of the beds had a pop up TV. There was a TV in the bunk bed room but had no cable to plug in and was not connected to aerial socket. The owner was phoned as this was not what I had booked. He explained that the TV's had been removed as they kept being broken. Fair enough but it is advertised as having televisions in the rooms. I was informed that it was Sykes problem for not correcting on their description and everywhere else didn't have that description any longer. On searching I found that at least 3 other sites had the same description that there were TVs in the base of the beds. So the information I was told by the owners was incorrect.

I contacted the owner during our stay have contacted sykes on several occasions but have yet to receive any correspondence which is very disappointing considering the amount we paid for our holiday

Good layout over two floors, ideal for the family. Pool table was a nice touch that converted into the dining table in the kitchen.

  • "Lovely lodge, let down by maintenance issues."

All of the external doors need adjusting. The en-suite shower bracket and controls are loose (causing the shower head to flip up to the ceiling due to water pressure). The drains have a nasty smell and in the en-suite sink, what appeared to be beard shavings from the previous occupant kept reappearing back up from the drain into the sink.

  • "The property has the potential to be amazing with only a few little tweeks."

My wife booked through Sykes Cottages and paid £615 for 2 nights stay. On arrival 1st impressions we were impressed but after getting in through the sticking door that has been reported on previous reviews, to which I thought would have been fixed before we arrived! Then we started to unpack, then we found some faults, the fridge door milk holder is cracked so we can't use it for fear of making it worse, the en suite to the master bedroom had cobwebs and leggy spiders between the bin and sink and also in the shower, in the kitchen the oven doesn't work so we can't cook, the BBQ hasn't been cleaned from the previous visitor and is still in the same condition nowas I refuse to clean someone elses mess to use it. The main doors in the lounge still don't close and lock so are open again in the morning so the building is not secure. The TV doesn't work in the Master Bedroom, after we realised that we needed a seperate remote to make it rise from the footboard it says "don't recognise the remote" as there were no instructions re this. We were also really shocked that we have to pay to go swimming on site seperately at an additional cost of £32 for 3 people for 1 session, this wasn't advised in the advertisement so it looked like this was part of the booking. We have done nothing but cook and clean so we could have stayed at home and saved a fortune. We did got to eat at the on site pub/restaurant as they had a deal running of 2 pizzas and 2 pints for £20, we booked a table for 7:45pm and arrived to find someone else sat at our reserved table and ghey needed to flip it, we went to the bar to order and were told they had run out of pizzas so we had to go back to the lodge to cook and clean again. We also fiund out from the on site Sales guy thst 2 other dites close by use this one as they are part of the same group, no wonder they ran out of food!!!! We were extremely dissapointed by these things after us as a family paying so much money for a Fathers Day treat for 2 nights that has been marred and caused some friction in what should have been a very relaxing and celebratory weekend. I have read through the guest review book too and noticed that some of the things I have mentioned have been previously mentioned and also that there are a lot of pages ripped out of the book for some reason too. So it appears they may be read but are on the whole ignored as they are still faulty. I just wanted you to know how our experience has been. Hopefully these points will be looked at so the next guests have a better experience and give the property the review it really needs and is worthy of. A very dissapointed family.

  • "We stayed in the property for a week."

Positives -The property is spacious with lots of seating areas. It was lovely to sit in the lounge area and people watch. The outside patio area (through the main bedroom) was a great place to enjoy our morning coffee. Although it was very sunny outside the property inside didn't get too hot. The beds are very comfy. Great location with lots of nearby day trip options especially with children. Negatives- general maintenance needs a lot of improvement. All external doors are hard to open and close. We really struggled with the patio doors on the ground floor and could only shut this by doing it from the outside. We couldn't lock the patio doors on the first floor at all - we could partially lose them but then the wind would blow them open. We had to keep a table in front of them. It didn't feel particular safe especially with children. I messaged the owner and was told we aware and would be fixed in 4 weeks and advised us to lift them to close them (we were unable to do this) - not much help! In addition, the stair rail was wobbly amongst other things & the oven was very temperament. Would I stay here again? No. Whilst it has the potential to be a fantastic property, in a great location, we would not stay here again due to the issues above - especially with the safety concerns with the patio doors on the first floor.

  • "Loved the cottage only a few niggles which just need some general maintenance."

The front door sticks badly and needs sorting before it won't close at all. The master bedroom patio doors are very very difficult to shut and lock, on arrival it wasn't secure at all, I managed to lift one side so that it eventually shut and locked but as before this will probably fail or break completely soon. Upon leaving we noticed a bad sewage smell, and the grid was leaking sewage so I presume something has blocked or a septic tank has filled. Apart from that we had a great stay, the house was just really a base to go places so mainly only there at night.

  • "The lodge was generally well maintained and clean - nice spacious living area on the 1st floor and perfect location to the swimming pool/restaurant bar areas."

.......the doors to the property need some attention, the front door was very stiff to open and close and the external patio doors also were difficult to lock sometimes. When we arrived the weather was good but we couldn't use the outisde patio furniture as these were very dirty and soaked through (cushions) as they were left outside in the rain prior to us arriving. Also the decking area could do with a good jet wash and lots of cobwebs across the whole lodge ! We would stay here again though :-)

  • "First the niggles: - We couldn't gain entry on arrival as we were given the wrong code for the key box; - there was only one coffee mug and three cups for six people; - the pop-up tv in the main bedroom wouldn't go down; - the pop-up tv in the 2nd bedroom had lost it's wi-fi connection so no channels available."

(these three points suggest a lack of checking at change-over) - for safety reasons it would be better if the first flight of stairs had a handrail. Overall the accommodation is lovely, especially the upstairs living area which is very spacious.

  • "When we arrived, only 10 minutes before check in time, nothing had been done since the last guests had stayed there."

The dirty bedding was still in the bath tub, the floors were filthy, it smelt dirty, no new bedding, no clean towels. There was also no gas either, so no hot water. The boiler had a fault message on it. Basically the canisters had run out but not checked for the next guests. The TV didn't work and nor did the WiFi. We had to make call after call to the owners to get this all sorted. We were also advised to call the WiFi people ourselves at first which is not on. The cleaning was put down to the fact there had been a mix up with dates and times and the cleaners not reading the diary, although the cleaner told us otherwise. We had to then vacate the property while the cleaner came and got the place to a decent clean level. Once back in, the TV would keep switching off, so we had to wedge paper under it, to keep it switched on. We had a whole day without WiFi so had to rely on our own data and the tvs in the bedroom didn't work. There was also a broken plate in the cupboard on top of the other plates that we nearly cut our finger on. The lady we spoke to acknowledged it wasn't a good start and they would make up for it. The guy we spoke to also acknowledged it was a rubbish start to our holiday and he would get us some bottles of wine to say sorry. We have received nothing. Once all these issues were sorted, we had a lovely time. The house was so comfortable and homely and was the perfect base for all our trips. The holiday park is very nice but it needs a lot more lighting so you can enjoy an evening stroll after dinner. The bar and restaurant are very nice and friendly as were all the staff. Would we stay again? Most likely, as long as we didn't have the same issues that blighted our first day.

  • "The property is really amazing and made for a great Christmas with family."

The only challenge we had is that the property receives extremely poor cellphone reception and the wifi was down. The owners or managers did not respond to our request to have this attended to. The fridge, stove, washing machine and dishwasher are old but work well However the maintenance team woylukd do well to ensure these are cleaned after guests depart and that the games equipment is regularly checked.

Dear Guest thanks for your feedback . We obtain Wifi through Lpis on site . They have had issues but this is now fully functional . Also the firesticks for the built in TV's in the bedrooms had been removed by a previous occupant , these have now been replaced . Thanks for pointing out attention to detail for the cleaning staff of white goods , the Lodge is immaculate but our new cleaning staff will pay extra attention thankyou Property Owner

Dear Miss . The lodge has two gas bottles at any one time and the boiler is switched off and on at the wall on entering and when you vacate the lodge .The heating comes on within minutes . Im suprised we didnt hear from you as both our contact numbers are on the Sykes portal but also in a booklet within the lodge itself , we are very easy to contact and remain available at all times Property Owner
