  • "Once again (four?"

times now) an excellent stay. Central village location with dedicated parking for one car. Comfortable and warm with friendly hosts. Plenty of walks and other activities nearby. Three! pubs still surviving in the village which indicates a good local economy. A bonus was good October weather and colours for the second time in two years.

A great deal of thought has gone into making this cottage one of the best that we’ve stayed in during our regular trips to the Lake District. Superb location in the centre of Pooley Bridge. Can’t fault it. Already booked for next year.

  • "Mews Cottage is lovely accommodation."

It is warm, clean and well equipped for self-catering. The decor reminds me of staying at a favourite Aunts' house! It is perfectly positioned for Pooley Bridge facilities, but far enough off the main road to be quiet and peaceful. Very convenient for lots of walks, Penrith and Keswick. There are good pubs, and restaurants two minutes away. Unfortunately the open fire was not available on our visit which was a disappointment. There was an electric fire in the hearth instead. We were anticipating a little open fire on the chilly evenings, but it was not to be. Also, on the Sykes listing it states space for two cars, this was not correct. It was not a problem, but an inaccurate description of the space available. Our stay was very restful, although the boiler firing up very noisily at 7.40 every morning proved an excellent alarm call! On the whole, a good stay in Pooley Bridge.

Well stocked kitchen with plenty of crockery, pans & cleaning products etc. Overall a nice cottage to stay in. It would benefit from a new bed. Very soft & squeaky double bed which didn't make for a great nights sleep. Ended up with one of us sleeping in the single bed. Adding Wi-Fi would make this a better cottage to stay in.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
