Lovely and clean and we had everything we wished for.

"Excellent accommodation with everything you could possibly need."
Lovely spacious rooms and an ideal location to visit all the lakes and attractions. Sarah was very helpful on the phone prior to our arrival and Nigel come to greet us when we reached the cottage, there was even a little hamper with a few essentials, which makes all the difference to a nice stay. I would definitely recommend this property and we hope to return again in the future. Thank You.

"Lovely to be welcomed by the owner."
The stables was very well equipped. Very comfortable beds. Spotlessly clean. Loved the ponies in the field next to the house. Really enjoyed our stay at the stables

"Property done to a very high standard, although on a farm very quiet and relaxing,Nigel the owner came and introduced himself to us on arrival and we were delighted with the welcome pack left for us,such was the level of service that we had a problem with a slightly leaking kettle and it was replaced the same day,all in all absolutely fabulous place to stay."
-
"We found the house was very spacious, homely and comfortable."
It was also in a beautiful setting. Mr. Jackson and Helen were very welcoming.
-
"Our stay was fabulous, the owner is lovely."
The Shetlands are amazing! The house is in a lovely spot, super quiet and we can’t wait to come back.

"Great cottage, thought of every little detail to make our stay enjoyable."
Lovely hosts.

"A very clean, comfortable and spacious property in a great setting."
There’s everything you’d need for a family holiday, with a well appointed kitchen and washer / dryer. The rooms are all large, with loads of built in storage and we found the beds comfortable. Nigel came and introduced himself at the start, and was very welcoming. It was a nice touch to have some of the basics (tea, coffee, bread, washing up liquid and even shower gel) put out for us. I’d highly recommend a stay here. You’re not right “on” one of the Lakes, but we preferred the quieter setting and everything’s just a short drive away. There’s a lot of footpaths and local walks immediately around the farm, if you’re more active than us.

"We loved our stay at The Stable."
The location is great and home is spacious and well equipped. Our children loved seeing the ponies and sheep just outside.
-

-
"Idyllic location."
Nigel and Helen were very friendly and helpful. Many thanks.

"The Stable is a lovely, peaceful retreat."
It contains everything you need for a relaxing holiday and Nigel is always on hand if you have any queries or need anything. It's the perfect location for visiting The Lakes or The Dales (and there's an amazing fish and chip shop just down the road)!! This was our third visit and we will definitely book again next year!
-
"A super clean and well equipped property - a pleasure to stay here."
It had everything we needed to enjoy our week away. Nigel is an extremely genial host and made us feel most welcolme to his farm. An excellent place to stay if you want peace and solitude but easy access to the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales.
-
"A spacious, well-equipped, spotless and homely cottage in beautiful unspoilt countryside where we were made to feel very welcome."
Definitely one to repeat.
-
"Absolutely fantastic cottage, brilliant location."
The cottage was close to all the places we wanted to visit. The ponies were wonderful, the children really enjoyed seeing them. The cottage had everything you could need and Nigel was great at sorting anything we needed.

"The Stable is a lovely cottage on a working farm."
The facilities are excellent and well presented. The cottage lacked for nothing. We would certainly book again.
-
"Large, comfy cottage and very useful welcome pack."
Really enjoyed meeting the ponies and cats. Visits to Durham, Raby Castle, High Force and Ullswater were easy and well worth doing. A truly beautiful part of the country and ideal for relaxing and getting away from it all.
-
"A lovely chintzy property nestled into the countryside."
Close enough to both Penrith and Kendal for those who want some shopping or days out, but far enough away that you hear nothing but the sound of nature. The owners couldn’t be more accommodating, would recommend to anyone.
-
"Lovely comfortable, clean and warm."
A very well equiped holiday home in a good position in a tiny farming hamlet with caring owners.
-
"We loved staying at this beautiful cottage."
Lovely cosy open fire. The kids lived seeing the horses every morning & the cats.
-
"The House was fantastic."
Beautiful surroundings, wonderful people and loads to explore. I found the multiple messages from yourselves however, patronising and overbearing. I wanted a holiday away from interference which you failed at delivering with your emails and texts. I’d hesitate to use your company again because of this.
-
"Ideal property for a secluded and quiet relaxing break."
Wildlife on the doorstep an added bonus. Lovely welcome basket on arrival a nice surprise.
-
"Really enjoyed our stay at the Stables, we would definitely stay there again."
-

It's well located and enables easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. The owners are very welcoming and were on hand if we needed anything during our stay. We would definitely recommend and are planning to visit again next year!

"Lovely spacious cottage."
Remote location which was ideal, especially during the current pandemic. The owners were welcoming. Beautiful area.
-
"Great Hosts, The Stables is very tastefully decorated, furnished and very well equipped."
Highly Recommended.
-
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful area."
Well equipped for self catering and comfortable.
-
"This is a pleasant cottage with spacious rooms in a quiet rural location."
It worked well for our party of 5 plus two toddlers, who slept on a mattress we put on the floor. Tip: if you need a hair dryer or more than the bare minimum of toilet paper, bring them with you.
-
"We all had a fabulous relaxing holiday."
Property was very comfortable and cosy. Owners very friendly and on hand if we required anything. Would love to return in the future. Thanks for making us so welcome.
-
"Lovely cottage in a fairly remote and peaceful location."
The cottage itself is roomy and has everything you need, the owners were friendly and on hand if you had any problems. Although tucked away down a lane it's in a good position to explore the area, various days out are within range. There are a couple of excellent pubs nearby (driving distance!) for good food and a handy sized Coop shop for all shopping needs. Definitely somewhere we would return to in the future.

"Great location and very comfortable"
-
"Beautiful surroundings, lovely warm welcome from Christine & Nigel !"
Highly recommended!
-
"Lovely comfortable accommodation in beautiful location."
Owners very friendly and helpful. Only disappointment was lack of Christmas decorations/tree as staying over Christmas week.
-
"Nigel and Christine were very welcoming."
We arrived on a cold dreich day. The fire was lit and the couple ensured that we were settled in before leaving us in peace. If it's a quiet peaceful retreat you're after then look no further. All in all, we liked the place so much that we bought it--only kidding! However, on arrival to Scotland, we rebooked. That I feel sums up our confidence and feelings for the cottage and the couple who run it.
-
"Neat, comfortable and lovely cottage which is great for a family getaway, has all the facilities you will need for self catering plus location and views are fantastic."
Will definitely be going back next year.
-
"A very peaceful spot, and lovely welcome by the owners - Mr and Mrs Jackson."
( with a tiny bit of updating it would be PERFECTION - and you can't say that about many places - including home!!) This is an ideal location with beautiful places to visit in any direction. The community pub, in nearby Crosby Ravensworth has good food and beer and is very welcoming - will probably need to book. After many weeks of hot sun we had some wet days, but it didn't spoil our holiday. You just need the correct clothes! We would not hesitate to book The Stables again
-
"The placed we stayed was super comfortable and the overall experience was brilliant from the time we booked the cottage until we left."
It's located in middle of farm far from the crowd yet is reachable within all tourist attractions. The owners were in touch through out and gave us tips about the places to visit.Definitely recommend this place for a comfy and peaceful stay.

"It was a clean well maintained property in a lovely setting with a warm welcome ..."
It was a clean well maintained property in a lovely setting with a warm welcome and fitted out with everything you needed including tea coffee bread butter sugar and milk in a welcome pack thank you will definitely return in a couple of years
-
"Nice coder table place with tranquility"
-
"We loved the location as it was quiet and off the beaten track."
Short drives to the various walking points like Glenridding and Pooley Bridge for walks around Ullswater, Buttermere and Haweswater. Eating out in the evening was a problem except for the Chippy about 10 mins drive, and 20 mins to the George & Dragon, an excellent restaurant. The cottage had all the home comforts, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. Both Mr and Mrs Jackson were most welcoming and helpful during our stay. We would love to return to The Stables! Thank you very much to you all at Sykes Cottages.

Where you’ll be staying
MAULDS MEABURN
Appleby-in-Westmorland 6 miles; Penrith 13 miles.
The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Maulds Meaburn in the Lyvennet Valley is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District, Eden Valley and the Yorkshire Dales. Hunter Davies described the village as "one of the most beautiful villages in the country". It is a quiet picturesque village in Cumbria not far from the Eden Valley and about six miles from Appleby-in-Westmorland. It forms part of the parish of Crosby Ravensworth and stands either side of Lyvennet Beck which flows from the south through Crosby Ravensworth and finally enters the River Eden near Temple Sowerby. Nearby Appleby sits at the heart of the lush Eden Valley, and is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain; still today, many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. Visit Appleby in June and experience the famous Horse Fair, the largest Romany gathering in Europe, enjoy a walk on the Pennine Way at Dufton, or explore one of the local cycle trails. With the delightful Pooley Bridge, Penrith and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
