  • "I had an enjoyable week at Gable View."

It was comfortable and I slept well. The property is part of a working farm and I liked being around all of the chickens, geese and goats who live there.

  • "A very enjoyable stay at Gable View enhanced by listening to and watching the different animals from the working farm that the cottage is attached to, (particularly the very friendly pair of goats)."

The kitchen facilities were limited, i.e. a very small counter top oven with two hobs but adequate for our needs. Situated in a beautiful location ideal for walking or going further afield by car.

  • "Comfortable cottage, small but more than enough for me and the dog."

I think it might be challenging to cook for 2 but there are plenty of pubs a short drive away and its an easy walk to Ravenglass where there are several pubs that do food. Good base to explore the western lakes. This is on a working farm so that means animals, the noise didn't disturb me.

  • "Nice quiet location but close enough to the National park as well as the west coast towns such as Whitehaven & Workington for those that need their shopping fix."

Cottage was nice & comfortable but could just do with a bit of maintenance & upgrading. One of the cupoard doors in the kitchen was missing & the small counter top cooker not really suitable even for one. It may be relatively modern but the last time I used one like that it was a "Baby Belling" over thirty years ago & if anything that was more efficient (or maybe I've got used to better over that time). There didn't seem to be any way of controling the hot plates. The batroom was vey small & had no heating but the water in the shower was nice & hot. Overall it was adequate especially as I was on my own, & I would definately consider staying there again. It was nice to see the variety of free range chickens & cockerels & the goats. Just bear in mind that the goats will just walk into the cottage if you leave the door open & cockerels don't just crow in the mornings. They also crow throughout the night. But then it is the countryside & only to be expected.

  • "This cottage on a farm was cosy , comfortable and well equipped for the two of us."

The electric heater well supported the central heating . It was cold outside but access via car to the start of good lake district walks and coastal walks was ideal for us hikers. I appreciated the busyness of Mike the farmer and enjoyed talking about farming with him as l used to be a farm worker many years ago. The cockerals can be noisy at times but after all it is a farm. We had a relaxing energetic holiday from a comfortable cottage in the height of winter.

  • "Does exactly what it says on the tin!"

The accommodation is an open plan 1 up 1 down cottage, small and compact but clean and everything required is there. The en-suite is "very" compact but sufficient and the shower is hot and powerful, the bed keeps on getting mentions and now I know why, one of the best I've experienced on my travels. Freeview TV and free wifi available. It's on a working farm but not noisy, even the free range hens and cockerel were quiet when I was there! If I come back to the Lakes again I will definitely check if this is available :-)

It was extremely quiet and had everything I needed, notably a good shower, a comfy bed and something to cook food on. It was great being attached to a working farm, the views of the mountains from the cottage were superb and I was able to walk to Ravenglass from the cottage. I had a great week. If you want a luxury, spacious cottage then this isn't the one for you. If you want a bit of solitude close to the coast and the mountains, then Gable View hits all the right notes.

Luckily brought some milk , tea and coffee as nothing in the cottage after a very tiring long drive. Was not expecting the en-suite facility to be so extremely cramped. This let down the otherwise satisfactory provisions. Several webs led to us having some 8 legged guests. Would benefit from refurbishment to be in line with the other cottages. That said it was acceptable value for money.

The oven was a small portable type sitting on the worktop. The first night when closing the curtains, looking out at the yard, saw it was crawling with rats!

  • "I sampled the smaller cottage Gable View, i was on my own, so space was more than adequate, if 2 are staying and your hound is big, you might be tripping over each other."

Bedroom was nice and cosy (keep window closed at night, as farm cockerel will wake you) didnt hear it after 3rd night... Lake district air does wonders for sleep. Lounge/kitchenette/diner more than passable even for a 2 week stay, my own personal points are TV not pick up the bulk of freeview channels, so choice of viewing a tad limited, wifi is there, but i took my own, also took a google chromecast with me.... Which proved a boon as TV is not internet type. Only other minor gripe is the sofa, really could do with a new firmer support model, although cushions available, i used pillows as extra back support and comfort. At time of visit stuff around me not fully open, but hey theres still good walks to be had, views from front are stunning.... Just still a bit too chilly to spend time sitting outside. Hosts are friendly and welcoming and regularly asked if needed anything else, if you get talking to Michael.... Very interesting character, we even had a connection to Keswick, Borrowdale where i worked in a hotel back in the day. You have a petrol station with a well stocked fairly large Spar shop 2 mins drive 10mins walk Directions to farm are given, but did i read... No so went slightly wrong way not far from farm, if you use the app what 3 words and use "Drawn. Change. Shepherds. That will take you to front door. I recommend a train journey along the west coast from Ravenglass, the line hugs the coast like a lizard.... And marvel at the properties that are built practically on the beaches along that coast, i travelled north, but you can travel south as well and go across another estuary at Arnside (involves a change of train) depending on your time of visit to Arnside... You might catch a tidal bore coming in. On the whole a nice relaxing holiday, which is what its about really.... Will be back, just dont know when.

RAVENGLASS

Just minutes from Ravenglass and easily accessible by a new cycle track is Muncaster Castle, with magnificent gardens and views up to Scafell Pike, and home of the World Owl Trust.
