"As always when travelling to the cottage that we are going to stay there is always trepidation as what to expect."
Having stayed in quite a number of holiday cottages Chapel Cottage is high on our list, it was absolutely perfect, spotlessly clean and provided everything we needed and more. The peace and tranquility really made it for us after travelling to visit local attractions to return to bliss. We will certainly be recommending Chapel Cottage to all our family and friends. Our only concern was, and please don't take this as a complaint, was that the heating was set rather low for the time year. We overcome this by the mesmoration of having a log fire, which we totally enjoyed. We were a bit worried that we could leave the cottage in the same state of cleanliness, but we absolutely did our best.

"Absolutely lovely cottage in a special location, saw red squirrels"
-
"The Chapel Cottage is cozy & well maintained, has everything you could possibly need, hairdryer, towels, toilet roll, kitchen roll, hand wash, treats for the dogs, little towels to wipe their paws, a torch for the dark nights and much much more."
We stayed for 3 night after getting married on a short minimoon, we were welcomed with a little welcome board, a congratulations card and bottle of wine, some delicious homemade bread, homemade jam and a little tub of butter and even the thought of milk in the fridge. The village hasn't a lot around, but that was exactly what we wanted, peace & quiet. The local pub (Sandford Arms) is literally a stone throw away, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food was wonderful. The walks are beautiful, we walked out of the cottage to the right and took the 1st left (at the slow down, red squirrels sign) it took us along the river, which was lovely and peaceful. All the residents are very friendly, including the Red Squirrels which we saw plenty of.. look out for them in the trees opposite and on the wall outside the living room window. The cottage has a comments book for you to write in, it was nice to read all the lovely comments and recommendations from people who have stayed previous. Thank you Tracey & Gary for a wonderful stay. Rachel & Shane.

"From walking through the door at chapel cottage we felt at home."
So lovely and welcoming. Everything you need for a fantastic stay. Brilliant base for exploring the lake district. Tracey and Gary are lovely and friendly. We are already planning a return visit

"Wonderful property in a wonderful area!"
All we needed for us and our 4 dogs!

"We have just had a 2 week stay in this beautiful little Chapel."
It was a home from home. 3 humans and 3 fur babies. We arrived to treats for us all which was appreciated after long drive. The hosts are lovely. Always on hand if you need them but also not in your face. The Chapel has everything you need and more. The local pub is a 2 minute walk away and the food was lovely. The locals are all very friendly and made us feel welcome. Appleby is a lovely little village. It has butchers, greengrocers, bakers, and other lovely shops. I fell in love the green grocers and the butchers everything was fresh ans tasted yummy. The weather was a but wet but as someone said its called the lake district for a reason

"We had a wonderful stay at Chapel Cottage."
The property was just as described with everything we could need for a relaxing stay. The village itself is very peaceful with a pub serving good food only a short walk away. Tracey and Gary were excellent hosts and left a lovely welcome basket which was a really nice surprise. Thank you for a great stay!

"Cottage was really nice, lovely condition and really clean."
Beds were super comfy. Also really dog friendly- dog treats, poo bags, small dog towel for wet paws by front door (nice touch) , and lovely bread & jam for the humans. It’s in a great central location for exploring the Lakes & Yorkshire dales. And a lovely pub which really does some great food. Great week…..
-
"A lovely, clean property in a quiet secluded little village with a pub 200yds away serving lovely food."
Gary and Tracey were very helpful and left us a great little welcome pack. I would highly recommend Chapel Cottage.
-
"We had the most amazing few days at Chapel Cottage."
It felt like home away from home. Tracey & Gary were so friendly & always happy to help. The basket of goodies and dog treats were a great welcome after a long journey. We would not hesitate to recommend to friends & family and would love to return. Thanks again, Beth & Josh x

"Had a fantastic stay at this cottage."
Will definitely call again. Great cottage. Really cosy and the village and local pub are lovely. Highly recommend.
-
"Had a fantastic few days in this property."
The village was great. We loved the personnel touches Tracey and Gary left. Villages were very nice and welcoming. Cottage was beautiful and well equipped. We would definitely recommend anyone staying here for the location to the lakes or just to chill for a few days. We watched lambs being born fox’s and otters near the village.
-
"We had a great stay."
The cottage is cosy and well equipped for a lovely stay. Being February it was quite cold outside but the cottage warms up quickly and the log fire was very welcome :) Located well for having good days out with an amazing pub in the village for a delicious meal closer to home. Would 100% recommend and will definitely go back :)
-
"An absolute gem of a find."
Such a lovely location with amazing hosts. Pennines, Lakes and Dales all on the doorstep. You really need to book this place.
-
"We loved our stay at Chapel cottage."
It was lovely and warm, the log burner was a lovely addition for the winter evenings. Beds were comfy and warm. Everything we needed for a three day stay had been catered for.
-
"The cottage was great for my wife and I plus our 3 dogs."
We had a very cold and snowy week but we were warm and comfortable and the log burning stove was a extra bonus. Everything we needed was at the cottage and local shops in Appelby had all we wanted. The very local Sandford Arms was very welcoming and both the beer and meals were very reasonable. We have foud that it has been difficult to find a property that welcomes 3 (mid sized) dogs but the wooden and stone floors are perfect for pets. Would definatly recommend.
-
"We stayed at Chapel Cottage for a week, and it was truly what we needed."
Stunning place, everything that you needed was available and provided. Beautiful layout for the cottage, roomy and very cosy of an evening. Would definitely book again, and looking forward to returning, and our 3 dogs, loved it. Our complimentary fresh bread, etc, on arrival was just the finishing touches by the hosts, Tracy & Gary. Thanks again

"The village of Sandford is a gem - the cottage is the jewel in the crown!"
It’s well maintained, spotlessly clean , extremely comfortable- I could go on ! Well perhaps I will! Homemade bread and jam , biscuits and milk on arrival. Complimetary tea and coffee. Treats and towels for our 3 dogs, Torches, umbrella, every cooking utensil you could think of ! This cottage is amazing. The owners are just across the back of the cottage and available if needed but kept a discreet distance throughout. Oh and we saw a red squirrel! Well done
-
"This is a lovely cozy cottage, 3 people and 3 dogs stayed for a week."
There is everything supplied that you need for a relaxing break. Spotlessly clean and we'll maintained. The area is very quiet, lovely walks straight from the front door with no need to drive. Local pub not even a 5 minute walk away really good food with friendly staff and locals. Highly recommend property. A credit to the owners.
-
"A truly home from home cottage."
We felt settled as soon as we unpacked. The welcome basket and personalised message was delightful. The surrounding area is beautiful we took some bird nuts which attracted loads of bird and red squirrels! They were in the trees opposite the cottage so we were glad we bought the binoculars. Our lakeland experience was excellent and we'll be back for sure.
-
"From the moment we walked in we loved it."
Exceeded all our expectations. Tracey and Gary had left fresh bread, butter and homemade jam along with trays for the dogs. Just a lovely touch. The village is quiet with some nice walks and a pub. You can easily get to all the main towns and walks. We visited Kendal, Keswick which has a lovely park for the dogs and a couple of the little villages. Everybody is very friendly. Would highly recommend this cottage. It’s a little bit of paradise.
-
"We stayed recently in this lovely cottage and had a relaxing and peaceful time."
We appreciated the welcome pack, blankets for our dogs and the treats that were left for them. The owners have thought of everything. It was also lovely to have a pub at the end of the lane where we ate each evening
-
"We had a great stay at Chapel Cottage, from the moment we arrived to an immaculately presented property with everything you need for your stay, even a cake to celebrate my wife's birthday and daughters A levels."
The property is in a great location, easy to get to the lakes, Ullswater and Derwent, also the nearby towns of Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and others. There's plenty of nice places to eat within a short drive but also a well equipped kitchen if you don't fancy going out. The area at front of the property is great for sitting out in the sunshine and safely enclosed if you are taking your dog, also not overlooked. The area is very peaceful and quiet, with a friendly local pub in staggering distance
-
"We had a lovely stay."
The welcome with ours and the dogs names was a lovely touch as well as the milk in the fridge, welcome snack and the dog box with chews and useful bits for them. Everything was labelled well and the information pack was useful down to the photocopied maps of local walks. The kitchen had all the utensils needed to make meals and the useful porch had various items like torches/umbrellas etc that could be borrowed if needed. The cottage is situated on a ‘No through’ road so it is extremely quiet from traffic noise.
-
"Chapel cottage is excellent."
The owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, including welcoming home made bread & jam. Tea, coffee, milk & cookies. There was even treats for the dogs. I can’t fault this property and would highly recommend it.
-
"A beautiful cottage in a peaceful location."
A great base for our trip up north. We really enjoyed our stay and having a pub within walking distance was a bonus. Both my husband and I have said that we'd love to stay again to explore the Yorkshire dales
-
"Perfect little get away from it all."
Location fantastic, lots of lovely hidden little gems for walking you really don't need to go too far. Everything you need, lovely little welcome pack on arrival of homemade jam and bread rolls and milk, complimentary tea and coffee. Very comfortable bed , woke up to just the sounds of the birds. Lovely pub just at the end of the road for food and drinks. Met the owners Tracey & Gary who were lovely stopping for a chat. The guest book shows many returning guests and we hope to return too. Lovely table and chairs at the front of the property to sit and enjoy a glass mod wine (we were blessed with the weather) the locals are all very friendly too. Thank you for sharing your amazing little cottage Tracey &. Gary we had a wonderful stay.

"The cottage is beautiful and cosy."
The welcome tray was wonderful. We had everything we needed. The woodburner was very welcome as the Lake District did it's thing. The pub in walking distance did lovely food and was very friendly. The extras for the dogs was a lovely surprise and we will be back.
-
"We had a fabulous time at Chapel Cottage."
From the moment you arrive it feels welcoming and homely. The added touches of the milk, bread and jam for humans were much appreciated after a long drive. Some properties say animals are welcome but it can feel like they're not really welcome with the numerous rules and lack of space for them. However, Chapel Cottage is truly special! The towels, water bowl, poo bags, collar tag and treats warmed our hearts and we knew we were in a fabulous place. The pub is very close but you hear no noise - it really is an escape from busy lifestyles. The pub does excellent food and even takeaways! We really loved the other additional touches in the cottage; the maps for local walks and the picnic basket for us to use. It's an old building and can feel a little chilly but nothing the heaters and woodstove can't fix. The woodstove was LOVELY! We were really sad to be leaving Chapel Cottage and will certainly return.

"We really enjoyed our holiday at Chapel cottage, and was very cosy and conformable with the wood burner, the cottage was well equipped with everything we needed, also in a great location only 2 minutes walk to the Sandford Arms Hotel which do really good meals which are also available to takeaway, just a short drive to Appleby, and kirby Steven which we thought was the best small town, also many great sights to see too many to list."
Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Philip and Samantha
-
"A lovely little cottage, providing all that we needed for a week which flew by."
.. unfortunately far too quick. Super walks with the dogs from the front door by the Eden river and via Warcop. Friendly, hospitable part of the world, with lovely towns in Kirby Stephen and Appleby nearby. We have so much more to see yet. Tracey and Gary are very welcoming and helpful, with thoughtful attention to detail. The cottage has superb WiFi, TV, Log Fire and facilities. The local pub is a boon, and there is a super Indian restaurant Ashiana in Appleby. Top Marks !

"Fantastic stay in chapel cottage."
Beautifully presented and such a peaceful location. Will definitely be back! Thank you for having us xx

"We had a wonderful (if wet!"
) week at Chapel cottage. The cottage was well kitted-out with everything we needed, was spotlessly clean, and beautifully presented, with thoughtful touches, like the homemade bread and jam, the welcome note, and dog treats, towels and bowl. The information pack was really helpful. The Sandford Arms just down the road was very dog friendly, and served good food. All this and the fabulous scenery, walks and places to visit. We hope to be back very soon - perhaps we’ll be luckier with the weather next time!
-

"Wonderful cottage in a lovely setting."
All you need for a cosy holiday. Great base to go off exploring the beautiful Cumbria scenery. Definitely recommended and can't wait to go back.
-
"The chapel is just prefect and the owners have planned for every need even our dog had a welcome pack the local pub served excellent food and the walks and scenery are jaw dropping."
We even managed to see two red squirrels. We took some our own extra fire wood so we could use the lovely log burner each night but you could buy your own locally if you prefer. You only really need to take food and clothes everything else was provided. We hope to return again some time.
-
"We had a wonderful time at chapel cottage."
The cottage it’s self was well equipped and does what it says on the tin . Beautiful and clean with a lovely welcome pack for us and the dogs. The village is quiet and very friendly. And the location is spot on for visiting the area. We loved it and will return xx thank you
-
"Chapel Cottage is an absolute delight!"
Warm and cosy yet surprisingly spacious. Tracey & Gary left a welcome gift of homemade bread, jam, cookies and even a pint of milk for our arrival, which was a welcome gesture. Sandford is a lovely quiet, friendly village with plenty of wildlife to look out for. We will definitely be returning! Met Gary who made us feel very welcome and told us some of the history of the chapel. 10/10!

Cottage was very comfortable and welcoming. Lovely welcome packs for ourselves and the dogs. Would recommend
-
"We had a lovely stay at Chapel Cottage."
Clean, and well stocked with everything you need. Lovely welcome pack pack when we arrived was a great touch. The local pub is a 2 minute walk away serving a great choice of food and drink. A short 15 minute walk away in Warcop is a really good playground for those who have children. The cottage itself is much bigger than we thought it would be and was perfect for us (a family of 4 with 3 small dogs). We met the owner on the last day as we packed up, he was lovely and clearly takes pride in making sure guests have a great stay. Highly recommended cottage in a lovely location.
-
"Lovely stay at Chapel Cottage."

Would highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet getaway.
-
"We really enjoyed Chapel Cottage."
The cottage is comfortable and in nice location. The owners bend over backwards to make the trip enjoyable and left clear procedures on appliance use plus a lovely welcome pack. It was excellent!
-
"It really was faultless!"
! A superb quiet location in a beautiful village, the former chapel has been tastefully renovated with all the comfort and facilities you could need. The owners live in the house right behind the property, but unless needed are not in the slightest intrusive ... in fact we didn't see Gary until the morning we left. Chapel Cottage is a superb base to explore the quieter parts of the Lakes and Dales. 10/10
-

"We were pleasantly surprised when we opened door to cottage."
Spotlessly clean, well thought out space and very thoughtful touches. Welcome tray when we arrived wishing us a happy stay. Area is beautiful lots of walks and very friendly local residents. We are certainly going to recommend to friends.
-
"Chapel Cottage is a lovely, snug charasmatic property let."
The owners Tracey & Gary go above and beyond to cater for every need, everything you could possibly need is in the cottage so you basically just need your clothes. Welcome treats for the family and dogs with a welcome message is a lovely personal added touch. Beds are extremely comfortable and everything was nipping clean. Once heated through the property is extremely warm and the front patio area is a sun trap when the sun is out. Book this property and you will not be dissapointed and it is very reasonably priced.
-
"A lovely little house that perfectly met our needs."
Tracey and Gary made us feel welcome and showed great attention to detail. In all one of the best places we have stayed.
-
"Wonderful stay at Chapel Cottage we would highly recommend and look forward to booking again."
-
"Everything from start to finish went perfectly."
Early communication from the owners resulted in a personalised welcome together with an essentials pack of milk biscuits and jam. Marvellous. The cottage is very tastefully decorated and furnished with everything you might need for a stay there. Spotlessly clean and an initial supply of logs for the wood burner. Idiot proof instruction manual and a guide to the area what’s where and how to re stock. We really enjoyed our stay, a quiet location close to everywhere we wanted to go with a pub 100 yards down the road serving great beer and lovely food. Can’t wait to book again.
-
"Perfect property in a perfect location."
We had a lovely holiday at Chapel Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need for a self-catering holiday. There are also lots of added extras: walking maps and information about the local area and welcome packs for us and our three dogs. While we were there, we visited the Lakes, the Pennines, and the Yorkshire Dales. I would definitely recommend this accommodation, and we will definitely return.
-
"What can I say , it's just perfect , lovely homely cottage , was greeted with a lovely welcome msg and treats ."
Lots of love and thought gone into those little things like the info book and maps of local walks . The dog bowl and towels, dog treats and the dog tag . Great location , warm and friendly village and a pub on the corner . Just perfect x
-
"A really lovely cottage and as described in the listing."
Snug but not cramped. Great base for a couple of days walking. Also should say that the welcome pack for us and for our dog were generous and much appreciated.
-
"Perfect stopover on our way to meet up with family in Scotland, would liked to have stayed longer but will almost certainly book again."
-
"We had a wonderful week at Chapel cottage despite 3 days of bad weather!"
The cottage is so cosy and great for a get away from- it- all- Holiday! The hosts are really thoughtful leaving a welcome pack for us and our 3 dogs. There is a local pub within walking distance that does takeaway and caters for vegans. Would highly recommend for a romantic getaway or a small family walking base.
-
"We all enjoyed are holiday, lovely walks around the village."
The girls (the dogs) loved the treats left for them. Are welcome pack was lovely, the cottage was homey, comfortable. We will be going back again.
-
"The hosts are extremely helpful and have left some lovely personal touches for both their human and dog guests ."
We loved the welcome pack for us and our dogs . The information pack had lots of useful walks printed off ready to enjoy walking in this beautiful and peaceful area . It was an ideal base to explore the lakes and Eden Valley . We particularly liked both the nearby villages of Appleby and Kirkby Stephens allowing dogs in all the pubs /shops /cafes. The cottage was a lovely cosy cottage to come home to with it’s lovely log burner . Would highly recommend it too anyone holidaying with their dogs.We hope to return again as it’s one of the best cottages we have stayed in . Only problem bed so comfy we struggled to get up in the morning
-
"Lovely cottage in a nice quiet village with a good pub within walking distance."
Lots of nice touches by the owners, including a welcome pack for our dog (never had this before). Location was perfectly suited for visiting different places in the area. Would most definitely revisit the cottage in the future.
-
"The cottage was perfect for two people and two dogs."
Hosts were very helpful and the cottage was clean and cosy on arrival. All the key features and requirements were signposted clearly. Location was great for exploring the lakes and hills with Appleby not too far to drive to. Locals were friendly and plenty of dog walks nearby. Outstanding hosts.
-
"A lovely cottage in a quiet village."
Hosts Gary’ & Tracey were very helpful with advice on local dog walks and places to eat. The pub in the village Sandford Arms was lovely, we ate their twice and food was very good. We would definitely like to return in the future.
-
"I would definitely stay here again wonderful location to use as a base for the Lakes, Durham, and any other towns nearby of which there are many."
There are some really nice walks around the cottage as well for a run or even walking the dog. The cottage has been renovated to a really high standard. We loved all the personal touches bread, jam, biscuits etc and providing a little starter set for the log burner was a fab idea. I found that every need for day to day living was catered for I could have not taken a thing with me apart from clothes and food, you even catered for my dog with treats, poo bags, and a bowl!! honestly I could go on... The sofa in the lounge area is not very comfortable, I didn't find the sitting position to suit me at all but you could say that is subjective and only a very small detail. Either way you exceeded all our expectations and I would definitely stay here again. Thank you so much myself, my family, and Monty the dog had a great time
-
"Chapel Cottage is tastefully renovated with perfect attention to detail."
The owners Tracey and Gary are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble to them. The personal touches and welcome pack takes into account everyons needs. . The homemade bread is delicious! We would highly recommend holidaying in this unique diamond of a property. Thank you!
-
"Had a great stay in Chapel Cottage!"
The place was spotlessly clean and it was clear a great deal of effort had been made to prepare for our arrival. The hosts were excellent and we loved the welcome gift of homemade bread and jam. We found all the info left by the owners very useful such as local walks and good places to visit or eat out in the region. Sandford is a top location for exploring the region. It's only a few minutes off the A66 and yet feels like 'you're getting away from it all' which is what we wanted. Overall, a great stay and would recommend.
-
"A washing machine would have been a good addition to the facilities but the cottage is fab and would highly recommend it."
Thank you for your feedback. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Chapel Cottage. We will look into the possibility of installing a washing machine without compromising on the space and aesthetics of the building. Property Owner

"Good location to explore North Cumbria closer to good links on A66, Peaceful hamlet with good dog friendly pub"
-
"Chapel Cottage is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in, very comfortable and clean."
The owners of the cottage,Gary and Tracey are lovely, friendly people and we arrived to a welcome pack with freshly made bread, butter, jam, milk and cookies which tasted amazing after our journey, there was also a supply of coffee and tea. Sitting outside with a coffee and cake is peaceful and relaxing. There is a good information pack with local walks, places to visit and things to do around the area. We will definitely be returning to Chapel Cottage, our holiday was very enjoyable.
-
"Lovely cottage, in a quiet village, lots to explore close by, accomodation was excellent, would definately use again."
-
"Excellent stay at Chapel Cottage, lovely warm welcome with some treats in the table."
Excellent provisions for everything, extensive information manual with guides on how to use certain appliances, explanations about what switches do what in the house and useful tips about local attractions and walks. The cottage was lively and clean, one minor point I would have found helpful is a better hoover as I was trying to keep the place fairly tidy (and hoover up the dog hairs) but the hoover wasn't great. The beds a super comfy and very cosy at night. The advertised 'enclosed garden' I would like to just highlight is enclosed but not very helpful if you have a big dog as they can easily jump over the wall. And there is no grass area that is enclosed to let the dogs out freely. Saying that, it is such a small village you can walk the dogs off lead to the grass area just down the road and th locals are all very friendly. Overall great location to travel into the lakes, the yorkshire dales and the north pennines!
Thank you for your feedback - we have now purchased a new hoover. We do feel that the description (as an 'enclosed yard') and photos on the website are an accurate representation of the outside space at Chapel Cottage. Thank you for pointing out that there is plenty of green space in the village. Property Owner
-
"Really love our hoilday, owners were lovely on site and also emailed us to confirm anything we needed and even kept updating regarding a power cut - can't fault them!"
Dog treats and welcome treat was amazing especially the home made bread and jam! Only issue we found was that there wasn't a big enough garden for two dogs as they rather excitable being in a new place and we felt we couldn't relax without checking them all the time. However we found there was lovely walks where we could take them and the owners provided a little pack which included us with local walks which was accurate. I would highly recommend coming here! Thank you for sharing your lovely Property with us.
-
"The Cottage was very pleasant, hardly any traffic which meant lots of peacefulness, numerous places to walk to and a local pub a stone throw away."
Excellent when you need to get away from everything.
-
"Amazing and immaculately clean accommodation and fabulous owners - A brilliant relaxing holiday."
The whole place was clean throughout, we pay a lot of attention to the standards in the kitchen and bathroom on holiday and they were absolutely spotless and the bedding was so clean and comfy. The logburner was fabulous and we enjoyed all the modern facilities such as the TV/Netflix etc. It was a real home from home and we loved every minute of our stay. Thank you also to the owners for checking to see if we needed anything. We didn't, you had supplied everything we could possibly need and we could tell how much thought and consideration you had put into your guests' comfort and enjoyment. The property is also set in immaculate lovely grounds, the village was lovely and quiet in the middle of rural farming areas and yet still with a real community feel, everybody was friendly when they saw us walking the dogs every day, and the dogs also had a brilliant time all week.We sat outside on the front in the afternoons having a snack, we could just just pop to the local pub 2 minutes away for a meal, then we could get back to walk the dogs again. We will absolutely be back for another visit and have already recommended this property to all our friends.Thank you so much, from Paula and Billy.
-
"We had a great time at Chapel Cottage."
The cottage was clean and comfortable and a good location for local walks. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a nice relaxed break. There was a nice little welcome pack for both us and the dog. Netflix on the TV was an added bonus.
-
"Considering we are in a pandemic at the moment, the cottage was not what I would call very clean."
The cooker hood was very dusty and grimy, the tiles in the kitchen were dirty on the top edging. The bathroom did not look very clean. That said, we did enjoy staying at the property.
We are pleased that you did enjoy your stay. It seems that some of the dust from the newly fitted chimney flue and wood-burning stove had resettled during your stay and we were unware of this. We apologise for this and are glad it didn't spoil your stay. If a guest informed us there was a problem we would ensure it was resolved immediately. Property Owner

"The cottage is in a lovely village and makes a great base."
-
"Chapel cottage was one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed at."
We arrived in the middle of a storm on boxing day. The cottage was warm and welcoming. It has been fitted out and decorated to a very high standard, with everything well thought through. We are a family of four and there was plenty of room. The local area was lovely, a quiet village location with plenty of walks on your doorstep and appelby in westmorland just a short drive away with good shops and facilities. We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage, thank you so much for a fantastic break!
-
"Such a lovely place to say - cosy and comfortable, with all the facilities you could expect."
A really interesting property and the surrounding area is well worth exploring. A perfect base for Lakes and Pennines. Will definitely be revisiting in the near future.
-
"The cottage was absolutely gorgeous, had everything we could possibly need."
The information pack with local days out and activities was a brilliant touch and we ended up having lovely days out at quite a few of the recommended places. Thank you so much!
-
"Great place to stay, owners had thought of everything."

A really comfortable and beautifully presented cottage. Very friendly neighbours too! Definitely recommend it to others.
-
"Position of the cottage was brilliant pub just down the road and lovely village with friendly natives!"
Short drive to the lakes but plenty of walks from the cottage.
-
"We met Gary and Tracey on our last day and they were very nice."
The Chapel cottage was great, and the location was close to A66 which is the main road all the way through the Lake district. (just wish Sandford had a corner shop lol.) We would definitely go back. Tony & Sue.

"If you need to get away to the country side for a quiet break ."
This is the place to go. It's in a very quiet village. Beautiful place to stay. Pub only a few yards away. Good food. We had a lovely peaceful time. The old chapel is lovely and cosy.

About the location
APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND
Penrith 14 miles.
The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
