  • "General cleanliness could be much better for arrival."

Next door neighbour was a very nice chap and flexible with our dog coming in and out of the property. Instructions could be clearer and more obvious to find. On the whole it was very comfortable and a good location for remote enjoyment of the Lakes

  • "Delightful cottage and we really enjoyed our stay."

However, I have marked down the listing accuracy as the description of the pub being a "short stroll" is really pushing it as it was 1.2 miles. We are lifelong walkers, so the distance there was ok, although it might be a bind if you had been walking all day, but the return in the pitch dark along a narrow road was hairy to say the least. Fortunately I had a very powerful torch with me, but would have been very uncomfortable without it on the two occasions we ventured down to the pub for a meal.

  • "The beds were too hard for me , I guess that is personal preference but I found them very uncomfortable and suffered with my lower back every morning , also the larger settee definitely needs either repairing or replacing , wherever I sat on it there seemed to be a drop ."

I must say the location is absolutely idyllic.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are sorry to hear that you found the mattresses uncomfortable. We do find that beds are down to personal preference. We take all comments on board. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "Beautiful location and plenty of walks around Grisedale forest."

We also went into Coniston, Hawkshead and Windermere, Tarn Hows. Cottage was well equipped. No logs or kindling but we managed to find some at a local garage. Even in July we had the fire on as it was so cosy. Pub not far but we didn't use as we ate in the cottage. Ignore comments about the next door neighbour, he was very polite and friendly to us. Would highly recommend if you want a cosy, quiet stay in the Lakes.

  • "Bobbin Beck is a delightful cottage in the stunning and secluded area of Rusland in south Lakes."

It’s nestled in a small cluster of houses on the side of Forge Force, which once powered the small mills making bobbins and other things. An intensely green and wooded valley, alive with birds, and almost no passing traffic as it’s tucked away between the two Great Lakes of Coniston and Windermere and their busier roads. There are gorgeous short walks from the door - through woods, beautiful meadows, along streams and across fords - or up onto the open fells (350m so well within range of most walkers) for stunning views across the whole area. It’s a short walk (15 Mins) to the lovely Eagles Head pub at Satterthwaite (no need to get in the car). The bird song here is wonderful to hear - and unusual for the Lakes - as this is one of the most densely wooded parts of England. Once you come to this hidden gem, you will want to return! The cottage itself is brilliant - slightly bigger than photos suggest: - a well-sized kitchen / dining room with lovely big wooden table and all the kitchen utensils you need - opening on to the delightful little garden via a stable door and porch - with plenty of space for walking boots and wet gear (and a small radiator to make sure they’re dry in the morning). We liked to open the top part of the stable door to hear the birds and river outside - a cosy living room with excellent wood burner and two sofas and armchair and a selection of games and books - upstairs 3 bedrooms including one en-suite double and one twin, both with beautiful views looking out over the garden, trees and river. The twin and single room both larger size single beds not the very narrow ones - all the bedding is good quality - the main bathroom has a lovely big bath and a separate shower which is always nice to have the choice - there is also a small utility room at the rear for extra clobber, with boiler and instructions for heating though all the auto settings work just fine - the cottage seemed very clean and very well kept is warm with good double glazing We would have appreciated a bin bag or two beyond the one in the bin but perhaps that was an oversight (we left a couple behind for the next guests). One extra light in the living room would be appreciated (behind the smaller sofa).

We enjoyed out stay very much. The only little niggle is that we arrived to find dirty cutlery in the drawer and the grouting in the bathroom does need attention, it could do with cleaning.

  • "Overall we had a loverly stay at the cottage."

Was nicely tucked away, quiet and brilliant that you could just walk out the door straight to the most wonderful walks with the dog. The down side was the sofas in the lounge should have been replaced a long time ago! They had completely collapsed and were not comfortable at all… just when you needed to relax after a walk there was no comfort at all! It was such a shame as the cottage was so lovely! Although logs had been left for the fire there was no kindling! So could not make a fire until we sourced kindling for ourselves! Again a shame as we had not really planned to use the car once we had parked up.

The weather wasn't our friend during the week but was lovely to come back to a warm, cosy and well equipped house. Friendly neighbours and welcoming community that we enjoyed meeting in the local pub. The property is a little remote which suited us perfectly, with wonderful walks from the front door. Listing should include that access is through the neighbours garden as this was not clear when we booked, it would have also been helpful to know the property is very remote. As this was an issue for us, some people love this, we did not like being so far from local shop, pub was walking distance but closed, again maybe comment to check opening hrs for local amenities.. The cottage is also very dark as set in a very a little valley surrounded by tress. Brook at bottom of garden beautiful but mosquitoes an issue .. pretty little garden

  • "Cottage was AMAZING."

But… Be careful to ensure you go into no.2 Bobbin Beck Cottage & not no.1. The gentleman next door is not very friendly & you have to walk past his front door & through a small gate to get to the rental cottage. He kindly left dog poo for us to step over just on his side of the gate & snapped at us for using the wrong bin. I would make the entrance instructions clearer about it being the second property, e.g. once you walk through the gate, you need to pass his house & go though a second one. He doesn’t take kindly to you approaching his house.

  • "This is a very nice cottage, and we enjoyed our stay."

There were wild birds in the garden, deer in the woods opposite and a heron fished in the beck. Lovely, but a little too far off the beaten track for us. It’s a winding, narrow six-mile drive to the nearest shop. We were a little concerned that the central heating had not been switched on prior to our arrival and this made the bedrooms very cold on our first night. However, once this was rectified, the cottage warmed up quickly and was very comfortable thereafter. The beck is delightful but the drop into it from the garden is quite steep in places and our dog had to be carefully supervised after a fall. Although it is cited in the cottage description as a 'babbling brook', we discovered that the beck can turn into a raging torrent after 12 hours of heavy Lake District rain. Even adults need to be careful when this is the case. All in all, a lovely place to stay.

We alerted Sykes to the situation at day 2 and 4. Although we were offered an alternative property on day 4 we decided to stay and not have the hassle of booking and paying for another cottage and getting a refund on the rest of our stay at Bobbin Beck. We had 1 functional log burner which kept us warm and allowed us to cook (kitchen log burner not drawing for some reason). We had our own head torches. Ones at the cottage had low / no batteries. Despite this the cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and we enjoyed our stay. The owner kindly agreed to reimburse us for extra fuel used for log burner. The property

Most tranquilly situated by a babbling brook, this traditional Lakeland country cottage could be lifted from a picture book.

Tucked away in a green and peaceful valley between the celebrated lakes of Coniston Water and Windermere, we're sure you will instantly fall in love with Bobbin Beck Cottage and its pretty garden next to the river. The outer old-world charm of this picturesque Satterthwaite cottage extends to the interior, where you will be transported to an earlier age by the rugged slate-flagged flooring.

Exposed stonework, wooden lintels, oak furnishings, and beams in the comfortable bedrooms all combine to give you that true Lakeland cottage experience. The hamlet of Force Forge, on the fringes of the forest of Grizedale, is gloriously isolated, and yet still only a short stroll from a village pub, the Eagle's Head at Satterthwaite.

There is nothing more welcome than a pint here, some food, or one of the regular gigs of live music after a day exploring the walking trails of the beautiful forest, taking on the nearby Go Ape adventure course, or climbing the high peaks of the Lake District round about. With wood-burning stoves in the living-room and the country dining kitchen, you will always be cosy, even when the winter snows are falling about the cottage, and on fine days, the little garden, with its patio and stone stairway leading down to the river, is the perfect place to sit out and soak in the peace and fresh air of this idyllic corner of Lakeland. Bobbin Beck Cottage will become your homely sanctuary and we think its the ideal place to spend your special holiday with Lakelovers.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
