"Please reffer to email sen to you on the 26th June."
Thank you for visiting Heugh Barn. We strive to give our customers the best experience and for all our guests to really enjoy the barn and feel totally at home. We are also available to resolve any issues should they arise and encourage guests to contact us on arrival rather than after their stay has ended. Property Owner

"Booked twice last year and the same this year."
The accommodation creates a wonderful relax feeling of freedom. Picturesque, idyllic location with plenty to do and see. If you like walking - this is the holiday for you.

Had a comfortable stay, but too many rules silly regulations does and don't as for leaving the cottage how you found it maybe somebody should check on whoever cleans the cottage carnt enter the cottage before 5 00pm and must exit before 9 00am ridiculous you almost loose a full day the cottage is empty for 8 hours
Thank you for visiting Heugh Barn and for your feedback. We are a little confused though as when you messaged us late on the evening prior to your departure, to advise of some damage to the kitchen cabinet, you did not mention any issues. Only that you had experienced a "lovely stay". Our housekeeper looks after several properties in Swaledale in villages other than Thwaite so we have to allow sufficient time for travel between these on changeover days. We also have to make additional time available for when problems arise or there is damage to repair as there was following your stay. Property Owner

"Property was dusty with spiders in the wardrobe and fluff on the floor."
Not enough cutlery, eg 2 teaspoons. Shower plug was full of hair and debris so water would not drain. Had to cut showers short so as not to flood bathroom. It's a lovely property and a shame it felt rather substandard. I understand why heating was on low when we arrived but it took a very long time on full to get even slightly warm.
Thank you for visiting Heugh Barn. If you had contacted us regarding the shower drain issue we would have arranged for someone to deal with it. We have not had any recent comments in this regard and so were not aware of it. Guests usually find the barn warm & cosy particularly with the log-burner, we do appreciate that those not familiar with storage heaters may inadvertently set them incorrectly resulting in cooler evenings. "A lovely, comfortable cottage and very spacious for two."
The location is very peaceful with lots of great walking nearby.
-
"Heugh Barn was exactly what we were looking for on this last minute break."
Remote location, close to the Pennine Way. Facilities as described and lovely wood burner, we took wood with us. Perfect for 2, it was a shame the local tea room and shop is closed. Excellent information booklet about the property and local area. Would definitely stay again.

"I'll get the gripe out the way first."
The check-in and departure time is the meanest I've ever seen out of the 50+ places we been to over the years. We were especially disgruntled at the 9am departure time -although we knew this before we booked so it didn't put us off booking this fantastic place but may do others. Ok so now that's over we just wanted to say wow, wow, wow! Heugh barn is amazing, so clean and probably the of the best equiped UK stays we have been in. Everything was clear in the guide book too and that log burner is out of this world. We had the most wonderful, memorable New Year in the barn, toasting the new year in with the log fire roaring away. The barn is an a remote location, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The bed was soooooo comfortable!

"We really love staying in the Barn; it's a quiet and truly cozy place."
There is no phone signal in Thwaite, which I really enjoy. The only letdown was the weather, but it gave me an opportunity to visit this place again. Yes, I will highly recommend the stay.
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you to Heugh Barn again. Property Owner

A wonderful holiday cottage- great location, very well equipped, very comfortable- just need to check whether the road up the Swaledale is open-it’s closed until about the end of November and so access is via Wensleydale and then over Buttertubs Pass,

"Very nice relaxing in this beautiful cottage."
-
"It was all good ."
. . . lovely compact place ! only silly thing which happened on first day was finding out ONLY the mortis lock is used to open/close front door . . . . maybe this should be pointed out as I tried to get the key into a stiff hole of a lock that actually had no barrel in it . . . . Maybe remove the useless key altogether !
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your stay. The additional key you mention is actually the key to the lock of the bicycle storage shed and is very useful for guests wishing to utilise this. Property Owner

"Cottage lovely - Parking tight - location stunning - cleanliness not good - no pubs or restaurants open Monday//Tuesday - only light bites at dinner times."
Would stay again!
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you would visit again. Thank you also for clarifying that the cleanliness issues you found were under the bed and that the rest of the property was lovely Property Owner

"Lovely house, lovely stay, lovely area."
There is one thing that isn't correct. The list says you have to call the owner to get the keys of the house when you're arrived. The problem is was no phone signal.
Many thanks for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Due to the very last minute nature of your booking (late on the same day as arrival) you did not contact us prior to your stay as advised by Sykes although the key collection information was sent out immediately by email when your booking was confirmed. Our advert does mention the limited mobile signal in the village. Property Owner

"A quaint upside down property with a comfy bed in a peaceful location."
There are some great walks around The Swale Trail/Pennine Way. The storage heaters were set very low when we arrived at 5pm and there was no starter pack for log burner unfortunately. If you like a pub , the only one we found open was Tan Hill which is the highest pub in England with lovely log burners, about a 20 min drive. All other pubs were closed. A few basic items like a dishcloth, scourer and a hairdryer would have been appreciated, but did not hamper our stay

"Well-designed cottage using the space well."
My only minor issue was that the duvet was summer thickness and we had 9 inches of snow and a temperature to match so I had to refill the hot water bottle several times during the night.
-
"The duvet is extremely small."
We had to put a blanket over the end of the bed because my husband's feet were sticking out and he's only 5ft8. We spent the nights fighting each other to keep covered widthways.
-
"Picture on site made it look bigger."
Parking tight.Could do with another armchair upstairs instead of the one provided. Great situation .All in all a great stay in a beautiful area.
-
"Lovely small cottage with small parking space."
No outside seating area if car parked. On arrival, clean but not spotless especially stairs..A note about woodlice left..And only half a toilet roll available. Not to far to visit Kirby Stephen/Hawes and Tan Hill pub.
-

The property was perfect for two people, it was cosy, up to date in deco and the bed was comfortable which is important for me. Thank you for a great holiday.
-

So quiet and access to the countryside from the door step!
-
"Fabulous and cosy ottage, ideal base for a walking holiday in the northern Dales."
Very comfortable stay. Great walking routes from the door.
-
"Superb cottage, very well equipped and comfortable."
One problem only : the Winter setting for storage heaters and 5 pm entry to property means a cool first evening. Turning up the output prior to our arrival would have been appreciated . Otherwise, delightful.
-
"Excellent place to stay, cosy during the winter."
Brought our own logs, it’s a good job we brought something to light our fire with as couldn’t find a lighter. Perfect size for 2. Struggled only with the parking as came in a van. Cycle storage would be a definite bonus for the property. Check in/out instructions very useful, would stay again
-
"Great accommodation in a beautiful area."
Would definitely recommend
-
"Due to Covid all pubs fully booked was not aware of this advise people to be aware of it otherwise fine"
-
"Fantastic little cottage, well recommended"
-
"Well equipped, attractive cottage for 2 in a beautiful location."
Lovely walks on the doorstep. At busy times advisable to book well ahead at local pubs as they can get very busy.
-
"Lovely little cottage for a small getaway."
-
"Well equipped and generally clean (corner of shower needs some attention) cottage."
Tight car parking space. Very comfortable bed. Really enjoyed our stay and would return (if there weren't so many other places in the world to visit).
-
"Superb base for walking just 50M from the Pennine Way , idyllic views , thoughtfully designed Appartment perfect for a couple ."
-
"Heugh Barn is a lovely little place, perfectly located with lots of scenic walks straight from the doorstep and close by."
It is very tastefully decorated and have everything you need for a holiday for two.
-
"This is a cozy place to stay in a truly rustic part of the Dales."
Surrounded by great hills and rivers for a fine choice of walks. Heugh Barn is clean and very tastefully modernised, with a good shower, comfy bed, well-equipped kitchen with all you’d need. We had a great holiday.
-
"Just to say had lots of problems with wifi, very intermittant, which may be something to note in the current situation especially as there is no mobile signal (EE or O2)."
-
"Excellent cottage/barn conversion, warm and cosy with very good facilities and a well equip kitchen area."
Great walks from the door. Will return in the future.
-
"Very uncomfortable mattress on bed ."
Shower poorly cleaned . Would not recommend this cottage .
-
"This is a well converted barn and makes good use of the space available."
The upstairs open plan kitchen, lounge, diner is nicely designed and roomy. Please note that the area has extremely limited mobile phone service and if you have need to use the internet whilst there then be prepared to use your BT sign on if you have one, or pay for BT connection whilst at the cottage (as the cottage does not have WiFi). However!! If you want a cottage to get away from it all then this is perfect, and in a great area for walks.
-
"A sweet cosy holiday retreat set in the stunning swaledale valley plenty of walks on the doorstep and a great local tea room in the village serving good meals."
-
"Great Place to stay with good friendly pubs, and the walking in Swaledale is fantastic."
We will be back
-
"Very pleased with the accommodation, parking and location."
-
"Cottage was beautiful, well decorated but cleanliness on arrival was below expectations."
Stains running down cupboard doors in kitchen, large cobwebs , cup marks in bedroom, tissue, fluff, dirt and cobwebs at side of bed. Generally looked like the cottage had not been let out for a long while.
It is a pity that you felt strongly enough to leave feedback of this nature but did not feel similarly compelled at the time, to inform us and allow us to address (or verify) the issues you mention. Despite your assumption regarding the property being empty for some time, our housekeeper had cleaned the property on the day of your arrival as the previous guests had left that morning. If you had contacted us on arrival she would have gladly returned. Our housekeeper is very experienced; previous feedback for Heugh Barn has been 100% for cleanliness. It is disappointing that you chose not to inform us on arrival or at any time during your stay, instead the first we heard was via feedback after you had left. Property Owner

"We were very impressed by this cottage."
We have had many cottages in the dates and this was amongst the best
-
"Comfortable cottage with everything we needed for a lovely relaxing holiday."
Walks from the door perfect for us. Thank you.
-
"Only two complaints."
There was only half a roll of toilet paper supplied and no tea or coffee. Accept that it is self catering but other similar properties we stayed in did supply. Apart from that it was great - nice location, comfortable, good cooking facilities, good shower.
-

MUKER
Thwaite 1 mile; Reeth 8.9 miles; Richmond 25.5 miles
Muker is a village and civil parish at the western end of Swaledale, one of the Yorkshire Dales, in North Yorkshire, England. It is situated within the district of Richmondshire. From the late 19th century, Muker witnessed an increasing number of visitors and holiday makers, and today the village boasts many walking opportunities, with a selection of public footpaths in Upper Swaledale. Muker also hosts a village shop, a pub - The Farmers Arms, as well as an art gallery, craft shop and a café within the old school building. Originally the Vicarage, the Muker village tea shop was built in 1680 and retains much of its 'Olde worlde charm' today. A Park Information Point for the Yorkshire Dales National Park can be found at the Muker Village shop. The village has one church; the Parish Church of Saint Mary, a Grade II* listed building. The River Swale runs parallel to the village, with Kisden Hill offering a charming backdrop.
