  • "We had a fantastic stay at High Stile cottage."

You couldn't get a better location, with mountain views all around and multiple great walks from the doorstep. The Yew Tree pub just a couple of minutes walk away is also a must visit - the food is superb and it has a lovely riverside garden. The cottage itself was also great, plenty of space and it was nice to have a separate lounge and dining room. The kitchen was also well kitted out which made cooking at the property very easy. The boot room was also super useful! I am sure we will be back to this cottage.

  • "My son and I very much enjoyed our stay at High Stile, the cottage is clean comfortable and has a very well equipped kitchen and is situated in a beautiful area of Borrowdale."

Subject to availability we will return one day. The information regarding navigating the bridge leading to the cottage must be heeded.

  • "We loved the location of High Stile, beautiful walk to Rosthwaite down by the river straight from the cottage."

Easy drive to Keswick and Buttermere. We stayed as four adults, two children and a dog and the house was a good size for us (we didn’t watch much TV as we were so busy exploring but if all six had wanted to watch TV it would have been very difficult). The property itself was pretty tired and not the cleanest we have stayed in. The listing says there is a communal outside area and I was very disappointed at how unusable it was as it is basically a picnic bench at the edge of what was a very full car park for all the cottages!

  • "Our stay started on a low note - it hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived after the check in time."

The cleaners arrived half an hour later with the reason that they were delayed due to car troubles. We were then not able to go into the property until 6pm. This is understandable, but should have been communicated to us earlier in the day so we didn’t arrive and then need to wait around. The property was also not cleaned to a high standard, so we then needed to clean the kitchen and dining room. The rest of our stay was great, but we were disappointed by the start. A few things to note that we would have appreciated knowing before booking - the turning into the property is very narrow and the ground is very uneven. Our estate car only just managed. A lower car would not be able to enter it without hitting the ground. There is also not sufficient parking along the lane as the residents from cottages 1-5 all park in the area beside this property (number 6).

  • "Lovely cottage with great walks from the door."

Good kitchen, upstairs a bit tired in places but adds to charm. Would be crowded if fully occupied- particularly in sitting room.

Could you be more specific in your comments about the upstairs.?We do try very hard to keep everything freshly decorated, in good repair and as up to date as possible without losing character. There’s not much we can do about the size of the sitting room I’m afraid! Property Owner

  • "A lovely spacious property, perfect for a stay in Borrowdale."

Kitchen facilities are great and the fridge freezer is a generous size. It was disappointing that there were no toilet rolls in any of the bathrooms and a trip to Keswick was necessary. Only 2 dishwasher tablets were left. Had we been aware of the need to bring these items , time could have been saved. Otherwise this was a great place to stay and we would like to rebook.

I’m sorry to hear that- it’s most unusual and shouldn’t have happened. Glad you liked the cottage though and will return. If you have any other problems please contact the agents at once and between us we will get it sorted. Property Owner
