Well equipped and comfortable. Has everything you need. Great location with shops, pubs and restaurants all within walking distance. A list of places where dogs can be off lead would be helpful. There are lots of good walks nearby but dogs must be on lead due to livestock nearby. Would definitely stay here again.

  • "Fantastic property which is very grand."

A great stay for two families. We were comfy and warm in a very cold spell. The property is very well located for the centre of Settle. Had a wonderful meal in the Golden Lion which is around 3 minutes walk away. Kitchen is huge and has everything that you need. The shower was lovely and the bath was really nice to relax in at the end of a busy day. Not far to drive to incredible walks which everyone enjoyed. Only points to note were that one of the mattresses was very soft and uncomfortable and there could be a little more attention to the cleaning (some large cobwebs and some Christmas decorations up in mid-January).

It was even better than we anticipated. It is spacious (there were 8 of us), comfortable and warm. The kitchen is great for a family breakfast, the lounge is perfect for relaxing and we had a fantastic New Years Eve socialising in the dining room. We would thoroughly recommend Sykes and this house

  • "What a fabulous property."

We were all sad to leave and return to our own humble abodes. We were there to celebrate a 60th wedding anniversary so made good use of the formal dining room which the anniversary couple though was great. Well equipped kitchen. Lovely comfy beds Great bathroom facilities. We all loved the garden but on our stay it was too wet to enjoy it unfortunately. The two dogs had a good sniff around though The house is perfectly situated with everything a short walk away. We were hopefully going to rebook for October but are not surprised it’s all full. Definitely be back though. The only thing I would maybe suggest is a sheet or notebook with a little bit of history about the house if any is known. We found it intriguing and would have loved to have found out about any previous residents and all those clocks

We were in Settle for a wedding so an ironing board would have been useful. We had traveled from Spain and South Africa and then from Nottingham so we were glad of the welcome scones etc. my mother is 86 so grab rails for the shower would have made it easier. Overall we had a brilliant time.

The location in the town was very convenient to shops, pubs and the train. We travelled from Canada and Denmark and planned a 3 generation family vacation. We decided not to use a car but only the train and bus and this worked out fine. In addition we were able to do several day walks in the immediate area. Overall rating is 10 out of 10. The owner of the property came over to answer some questions as well as fix a minor problem and could not have been more welcoming.

  • "We have booked a number of cottages from your organisation and have always been very pleased with them."

Sadly, we cannot say the same about Windyridge. While the house is lovely (though it is middle and not end terrace as described) it certainly falls short of your customary standards as follows: There is no mop nor long-handled brush to clean the kitchen floor (which has been left very stained and marked by previous occupiers) and which as walkers we feel necessary. There are also stains on the landing carpet which were there when we arrived. The curtains in the sitting room are hanging off the curtain rails and give the room a very uncared for look. It would be impossible to prepare and cook a meal for eight as there is only one small chopping board which has to serve as a bread board and a board for preparing veg. Nor are there any bowls for making dishes nor for serving food. While there is a lot of crockery none of it can safely go in a microwave. There is only one bath mat for two bathrooms and the basin in the bathroom has a faulty plug and a loose tap. There were no additional toilet rolls. There is no ‘book of words’ giving information about the property and surrounding area. It is our experience that owners usually leave several leaflets and recommendations to help their visitors enjoy the local area.

The house was large enough to comfortably accommodate two families and had a plentiful supply of kitchen equipment. Happy to leave both cars parked undisturbed all week as the shops and amenities were on our doorstep, although the house and gardens were peaceful and didn't feel like they were so close to a bustling town. Lots of great walks, straight from the town centre and some excellent places to eat, the Golden Lion is a must! I'd happily visit again and again...

There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall has entertainment and other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.
