"Sparkling clean, spacious, comfortable and very peaceful."
Generous welcome pack. Friendly hosts. Excellent base for walking, and that pull up from the valley gets easier with repetition!
-
"We really enjoyed our holiday at Stable Cottage, fantastic welcome from Chris and Andy."
Beautiful location and the icing on the cake was being able to have a horse riding lesson while there. They have the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in too! Would definitely return!

"Stables cottage is really well-appointed and well maintained property."
Whilst holding on to and making the most of its traditional features it has been renovated to a high standard and had everything we needed and more in a holiday home. The location was stunning - surrounded by beautiful countryside and yet a stone’s throw from the centre of Todmorden. The property is on an equestrian centre which meant seeing some gorgeous horses on the way in but other than the odd neigh the cottage was completely peaceful. The owners were very friendly and helpful and always stopped for a chat if we saw them and offered tips on places to visit which was great. There was a downhill walk of about 10 mins out of the back of the property down into the town. The views from the top of the hill over Todmorden were lovely. The walk back up was steep but more than manageable for 2 middle aged, not particularly fit people. The town itself had plenty of parking so if you have accessibility needs or young children then it’s a 5 min drive. The town itself was gorgeous. Less well known than its sister town of Hebden Bridge but equally as gorgeous and less touristy. There were several pubs and eateries - our favourite being Honest John’s Bar and Cafe (a cafe and Greek restaurant serving a fabulous array of cocktails). There are also 3 supermarkets in the town so getting provisions is no issue at all. There is a flat walk along the canal to Hebden Bridge (approx 4 miles) which is worth doing. The train station is well served with regular trains to both Leeds and Manchester. We had a wonderful and relaxing time and hope to visit again!

"A lovely cottage in a very peaceful, secluded location."
Only horses and sheep for company but within easy reach of Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Very comfortable place, everyone gets their own bathroom and extremely comfy beds. The hosts are lovely, helpful and always on hand if you need anything.

"This was our second stay at Stables Cottage, so obviously we like it!"
In over forty years of self-catering holidays it's one of the best properties we have encountered. This time we invited relatives to join us. So we were four active adults, and the cottage still felt spacious and uncluttered - it's a veritable Tardis. Where do we start? The cottage was immaculately clean, quiet and very comfortable. The setting is idyllic. It's very well equipped, with comfy beds, thick fluffy towels, big leather sofas, brilliant showers, good quality, easy to use appliances, a lovely garden to sit out with a drink of an evening, and an amazing welcome pack. Not just the usual basic groceries but cake, scones, classy biscuits, chocs, a huge bowl of fruit. Stables Cottage is perfect for our needs; we are already looking at dates for next year.

"Lovely cottage with a well equipped kitchen."
Pleasant owners living next door if you need anything.
-
"What a wonderful place to stay, a real gem, and the owners Chris and Andy are fabulous."
If you want somewhere to chill out then this is the place to stay, the cottage is so comfortable and has everything you need. Will definitely be back.

"Simply the best."
Large entrance room with plenty of space with large table for dining. Spacious and comfy lounge with open plan kitchen and breakfast bar.. Kitchen has everything you need and more and was spotless. Everything in the kitchen was in good order and was also spotless. This is the first time we did not have to clean anything before use in any cottage we have ever stayed at. Every bath room. toilet, shower and the bath again in first class condition and again spotless. We have stayed at over 35 cottages around the UK and this is by far the best we have ever been too. Its a credit to the owners and its a shame other owners do not take the same pride as these do. We thank you for a great stay David and Linda from St Helens.
Thank you David and Linda Property Owner

"A comfortable, relaxing week in a cottage full of character."
Very well equipped with many extras provided. Taller people need to take care as some ceilings and doors are low. Andy took time to check that we wanted for nothing and came up with a new toaster immediately when the old one failed. Small bedside clocks would have been useful. Overall an excellent cottage , reasonably priced.

"We had a brilliant holiday at Stables Cottage."
A warm generous welcome from Andy and Chris including Easter goodies and basics. Loved seeing the horses in the next door stables. The cottage was immaculate, very warm cosy and comfortable for the 5 of us gathered from North and South. Everything you might need was provided including great Wi-Fi, Wood burner and en suites to every bedroom which was luxurious. We enjoyed walking straight up onto the moors from the cottage and the short stroll to the Shepherds Rest pub where we had a delicious Easter Sunday Lunch. Other highlights were visits to Hebden Bridge independent shops, Heptonstall for Sylvia Plath’s Grave, cobbled streets and the Cross Inn Pub. Great walks in wild weather to the Bride Stones and Hard Castle Crags. The covered, market at Todmorden had great range of food stalls with 2 proper old fashioned butchers fare including fabulous steamed meat puddings and pork pies. We’d love to go again sometime.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Stables Cottage."
The owners, Chris and Andy were very attentive and on hand if we needed them. The welcome package of treats and the provision of toiletries were superb and the property warm and very comfortable. It was spaciouus and suited our three generational group very well. We loved the rural location and enjoyed exploring the area, in particular Hebdon Bridge, Hardcastle Crags and the Piece Hall in Halifax.

"Listing states kitchen with utility - not sure where it is?"
Also gives the impression the cottage has views but there are none other than the hedge and another property. The living room isn’t warm enough without having the wood burner going all the time. Took 4 hours + for the heating to warm from 18 to 22 but still felt very chilly. Oven switches very greasy and all in all the whole property could do with a good deep clean. The radiator in the main bedroom is either off or on. Very disappointed as if the weather not good like to relax but could not do this comfortably here
-
"Stables Cottage was perfect in all aspects."
Would happily stay here again. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Felt like a home away from home. Just a really cosy cottage in a great location…walk into town in minutes. The surrounding countryside was beautiful.
-
"The Barn was better than we expected."
Andy was extremely friendly, generous and helpful. We loved the fire and all the facilities were great.
-
"A clean and spacious cottage in the countryside and approx 10 minutes walk to the shops of Todmordon, but a very steep walk on the return journey."
The cottage is one of the best equipped we have stayed in and the first to provide an air fryer. The roads to the cottage can be narrow and steep in places with some extremely tight turns so best to arrive in daylight.
-
"The property is one we felt at home in straight away which counts for a lot in our book."
It had everything we would need, and any concerns we had were quickly answered by the friendly owner who handily lives next door. We have yet to find the cottage that for us is perfect in every way, but this one is definitely high up on our list. We also loved the location. It is quiet and out of the way yet close enough to the town and its many transport options. The riding tuition was also excellent. Rambo (the horse), the facilities, and tutors were everything we had hoped they would be. All in all, the holiday was a very happy experience which we knew we wanted to repeat even before we had left. We look forward to seeing you again, Andy & Chris!
-
"The owners could not have been more helpful and the welcome pack was exceptional."
Would definitely recommend a visit.
-
"We had a lovely holiday at Stable Cottage."
The owners were on hand if we needed them- we didn’t! The cottage was clean, tidy and equipped with everything we needed.
-
"An excellent week from start to finish!"
Everything went very smoothly, which is always a relief after a long drive. We found the Equestrian Centre easily, the staff immediately contacted Andy, who met us at the cottage (just round the corner) and showed us round. He was very helpful and informative - indeed everyone we met, stables staff, neighbours, Thomas the rescue cat, made us very welcome. The cottage is beautiful, and much more spacious than we expected. It was spotlessly clean, cosy, comfortable, quiet and extremely well furnished and equipped. There were lots of thoughtful extras - a dish of sweets, vases of flowers, a huge bowl of fruit, as well as useful provisions and toiletries. We became very fond of Todmorden, which is quietly, solidly alternative. Lots of interesting independent shops and a good market. The walk along the canal is delightfully varied.
-
"Superb cottage, beautifully maintained, quiet, gorgeous countryside all about."
Ideal. Good value for money too. V nice people to do business with. Faultless.
-
"Peaceful location."
Good access to footpath walks. Well appointed property. Very comfortable double bedroom.
-
"We had the most amazing stay at the Stables Cottage."
The cottage itself is well equipped with everything you could need, and with one of the best equipped kitchens I’ve seen in a rental. The house is comfortable, cosy and clean with lots of space. The cottage itself is set in a beautiful area, only a short walk into the town and with lots to do in the area. Everything was well thought out with plenty of added extras, from the make up removing flannels to the welcome basket with cake, biscuits, tea and coffee, we felt extremely lucky. Our hosts were perfect, friendly and welcoming and I can’t thank them enough. I highly recommend the Stables Cottage, it was the perfect place to see in the new year and I would love to stay again.
-
"The cottage proved to be fantastic, having read the information on Sykes website I thought it sounded to good to be true."
But it was true!! The location is quiet, its next to a busy equestrian centre but you wouldn't know it was there. The owners were very welcoming, the cottage clean and well presented, with a downstairs loo. Everything worked as it should, the log burner included with enough free logs for 2 evenings. Looking forward to going back.
-
"Everything in the cottage was of the best quality and the welcome pack was very generous."
The flowers, fruit and sweets were very much appreciated and the friendliness and helpfullness of the hosts added to the pleasure of our stay.
-
"No wifi"
-
"We loved Stables Cottage."
It is delightful, and very well equipped and furnished without being 'fussy'. Th nearby pub is very handy and the food good. It is much prettier than on the photo! My only suggestion is that you tag a notice for it on the sign for the Equestrian Centre.
-
"We had an absolutely fantastic week - everything we needed and many extras."
Thank you for a great stay.
-
"A lovely cottage and a very friendly welcome from the owners."
Highly recommended.
-
"Stables Cottage is an ideal base for a car-free holiday, being within (uphill!"
) walking distance of Todmorden and its station on the Calder Valley line. There are excellent walks straight from the door onto the moors. We also explored the valley along the canal and railway, with Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall within easy walking distance. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. It was spotlessly clean. The owners are very friendly and helpful and on hand next door if required. Apart from the occasional aeroplane or farm machinery, the cottage is beautifully peaceful. We've already booked a return visit.
-
"A lovely cottage, with everything you could want for a self catering holiday."
A nice welcome pack for when you arrived too. Lovely walks on the doorstep. I highly recommend this property.
-
"It was like home from home."
A comfortable cottage, so quiet and peaceful, but within easy reach of interesting places and local walks. The Welcome pack and extras were very generous and a delightful touch. The cottage had everything we needed and our hosts were lovely. This place is a real gem. We have already looked to book again but it’s very popular.
-
"A great place to stay."
A clean, cosy, well-equipped cottage. It has lots of character, a very pleasant garden and is quiet and peaceful at all times. The owners were friendly and helpful. Some fantastic walks straight from the door and lots of interesting things to see and do nearby. We found the access roads a bit steep and narrow.
-
"One of the best cottages we have stayed in."
Very comfortable and spotless. Everything you need and superbly located, with stunning walks right from the door. Excellent communication from very friendly owner and a lovely goodie pack of food with huge bowl of fruit waiting for us. Would definitely book again and highly recommend. Thank you for a great holiday!
-
"Very characterful and comfortable cottage in a rural location."
Although we had bad weather the cottages facilities ensured we had a pleasurable stay and made it a real home from home. Very friendly owners who were always on hand and our daughter loved the equestrian activities.
-
"We stay at cottages a lot and have now stayed here 3 times."
It is immaculate in every respect, with many little touches that make it a pleasure to come back. You will want for nothing for a calm relaxing few days away from everything. The owners are exceptionally friendly and nothing is too much trouble. And, to be honest, the beds are so comfy, you need to set an alarm or you wont wake up :)
-
"Lovely rural location."
Property is exceptionally well equipped and clean and spacious. Warm and comfortable. Sited next door to helpful owners. Wonderfully quiet break.
-
"What a great cottage, everything has been thought of, a fully equiped kitchen, comfy sofas and beds, lots of hot water and spotlessly clean through out."
Also a welcome pack with some lovely goodies. Lots of walking from the cottage and an easy walk to the town. We will be back.
-
"Altough uninspring on arrival through the Riding School yard this cottage is a little gem."
Very old and interesting but beautifully upgraded, decorated and complete with all facilities - and at this time of year (November) lovely and warm. Owner very attentive but not 'in our face'. Access is along narrow lanes but nearby villages lively and interesting. Highly recommended as a base for exploring the gorgeous Calder Valley.
-
"The cottage is situated in a great area for walking and exploring."
Views are incredible. Short walk to a pub which serves meals, really good. Owners of the cottage are friendly and very helpful. Lovely spot
-
"Location & property plus extra touches."
-
"This is an excellent cottage with plenty of room and facilities."
Owners are pleasant and orchestrate nice little touches like flowers, sweets, excellent bowl of fruit and biscuits plus a grocery starter pack. The cottage is within walking distance of a great pub and Todmorden has all the amenities you will need. Beautiful canal walks are to be had locally and of course hill walking if that is your thing. All in all a great cottage in a ‘different’ location.
-
"Very comfortable cottage in a wonderful location for walking."
-
"We have been holidaying with Sykes for over 10 years and must say that our stay at The Stables was undoubtedly one of the best week’s we have had."
The cottage was very clean, well equipped and homely. Beds were very comfy and bed linen lovely. It was great to stay in such a beautiful setting with lots of interesting places on the doorstep. But what made the holiday so special was the owners Chris and Andy. What lovely people they were. So friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We only wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely be going back. If you’re looking for a place to stay in this lovely part of Yorkshire then this one ticks all the boxes and more. Thank you Chris and Andy for making our week so special.
-
"Fabulous cottage, lovely warm welcome and the best welcome pack we’ve ever had."
Beds are comfortable and the cottage is immaculately clean. Nice area outside to sit and relax. The owners were very friendly and offered us a lift into town one evening which we very much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this cottage.
-
"Super in every respect"
-
"Felt so welcome and looked after in this lovely cottage."
Beautifully decorated and all the little details had been thought about. We had a wonderful weekend and would thoroughly recommend this cottage.
-
"This is a great place to stay - friendly helpful hosts and a lovely cottage."
There is plenty of space, the kitchen was well equipped and the wood burning stove was a real plus. Beautiful walks available either from the cottage or in the surrounding area. highly recommend this place and hope to come back again one day.
-
"From the moment we walked in the cottage you could tell it was absolutely spotless."
Given current times it was fantastic to know that everywhere was extremely clean and extra attention to details had been given .i.e hand gel was available in every room and bathroom, plenty of cleaning products etc. The extra lengths the owners went to was above and beyond to make our stay perfect, huge fruit bowl, milk tea and coffee etc was unexpected but very thoughtful and kind. My children adored being so close to the horses and were thrilled they got ride them too. Overall this is a wonderful cottage offering a relaxing break and we are already looking to book again. Thanks again to the owners, we loved it
-
"Great location."
Loved the little extra touches. As well as ensuring hand gel etc was available to fight Covid there was a vase of flowers on the hall table, a large fruit bowl, toiletries and tea, coffee and local biscuits. Felt very welcome
-
"We had the most perfect break at stables cottage it was just what we needed after lockdown."
The cottage was clean, warm and very homely the owners have thought of everything from the welcoming vase of fresh flowers, bowl of sweets, the tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits down to hand sanitizers in every room. The beds were amazingly comfortable, just what’s needed after a days walking. Honestly this cottage is perfect we are hoping to rebook for next year
-

"We had a lovely, comfortable stay at the Stables."
Plenty of space, not far from town and a stroll to and from a lovely pub. Because we have family who live locally in Todmorden, we have already recommended it to other family members and we would book it again ourselves. Thank you!
-
"Andy & Chris were the perfect hosts, there if needed very friendly & told us we could look around the stables to see the horses at any time."
Everything was in the cottage for our comfort, even 2 two seater settees with recliners! When we arrived Andy showed us around & explained about the heating etc. There wa milk & juice in the fridge, tea coffee & biscuits plus a bowl of fruit. They had thought of everything to make us welcome! The beds were very comfortable & everything was spotlessly clean. The countryside around was superb, & although it was countryside it was ver asy to get to places. We would certainly stay at The Stables again as we thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Thank you Chris & Andy.
-
"Our family had a fantastic time at Stables Cottage."
Cottage was beautiful inside and out and we were able to make use of the gorgeous garden and bbq. Very handy for Todmorden town, Halifax and Hebden Bridge. We will definitely book again.
-
"Brilliant holiday exploring the surrounding area, its landscape and industrial history."
So many walks to do within a very short distance of the cottage - or even directly from the cottage. We can't wait to return. One word of warning. DO NOT RELY UPON YOUR SATNAV. We ended up driving up a washed out, very potholed road. The best route is to take the road towards Rochdale as far as Walsden and then follow the sign-posted directions to the Shepherd's Rest Inn. Do this and your holiday will get off to a good start.
-
"Had a lovely time the owners of the cottage were lovely we really enjoyed ..."
Had a lovely time the owners of the cottage were lovely we really enjoyed our selves would definitely recommend it just wish we could have stayed longer
-
"Stables Cottage was everything we could have hoped for, and more."
Extremely well furnished and fitted out with plenty of room for our party of five. It was a real bonus to have ensuite bathrooms for all of the bedrooms. The location is perfect, with lots of walking opportunities directly from the cottage and lots of interesting places to visit in the area, particularly Hebden Bridge and Haworth. We had three excellent meals at the Shepherd's Rest Inn only 10 minutes walk away. Andy and Chris were perfect, helpful hosts. This was certainly one of the best holiday homes we have ever rented.
-
"Stables Cottage is very comfortable, spacious, well furnished and equipped."
Everything has been done to a high standard. Mr Farnaby greeted us warmly and had provided some very welcome provisions to start our holiday. We arrived on 15/12/18 and were delighted that there were Christmas decorations around the hall and living area. Very warm and cosy. We would not hesitate to revisit the cottage and would recommend it to all. Thanks to you, Mr and Mrs Farnaby.
-
"We loved our stay in this cosy cottage."
It had everything we needed, and was a 10 minute walk into central Todmorden down several flights of steps through the rows of houses to the bottom of the hill. Walking to the train station we could then explore Calderdale by train. The Shepherds rest pub is 10 minutes walk away up the hill, with great food. Friendly hosts. We would return.
-
"Very efficient booking service."
Description of cottage very accurate - great location.
-
"It was the perfect holiday with excellent accommodation."
Generous welcome pack provided, quality furniture with the added bonus of ensuite in all rooms and extra tv's.
