  • "This property is a great size."

That's the only positive thing I have to say about it. The place is filthy and smells of damp & mould. On arrival at the property I had to call the maintenance guy as I couldn't get the door open. I got it & while on the phone, he asked me if the place was clean. I said I didn't know as I'd just got the door open but told him it better be clean & he asked me to go and look! The fact he was willing to let me walk into it when it hadn't been cleaned should have told me everything. Once in, there was an overpowering smell of air freshener and damp. I eventually found a plug in & switched it off. There was mould in quite a few places & the smell was just awful. I went through to the utility room and was disgusted with what I found. The smell was even stronger there. There was a mop bucket full with filthy water. This was water from a leak in the roof! It was filthy. The washing machine also had a bit broken which could be dangerous for kids. I had to message the owner to get it emptied as it had been raining & the bucket was overflowing. I certainly wasn't touching it. It was obvious it hadn't been emptied for my arrival. It was over the floor & going in behind the machines. He did get it emptied but by the Thursday, it was going over the floor again as the bucket wasn't catching it all. I was disgusted by the place and was so upset I wanted to leave & was looking up hotels. In the end I had to stay because my 16 year old grandson is autistic & he didn't want to share a room with me & he couldn't be left in a room on his own. The games room - something he was looking forward to but after one look, he didn't go near it. The wallpaper is hanging off the walls, the owner would be better just ripping the hanging bits off. The kitchen - the lino is coming up and someone could easily trip over it. I used the cooker once, there is a horrible greasy smell around it. My grandson wouldn't use the plates, I had to buy paper plates for him. He actually wouldn't use the shower either cos it was mouldy. The backyard was full of cigarette ends. The whole place was just a mess. A mouldy bathroom with rust over the accessories. Had it not been for my grandson, I would have left as soon as I walked through the door. I honestly don't know how this property can be rented out, it's a health risk. We left a day early, I just couldn't stand it anymore.

The first time it was lovely we'll maintained and clean, this time the maintenance had slipped, the roof leaks, the bathroom had mold in and was dirty, the decoration was ripped and dirty, the skirting boards were rotten in places and the front door was hard to open and the key was difficult get out

We were given a parking permit as the street is for permit holders only and got a parking space straight across the road from the house. It is only a few minutes walk from the nearest shops and takeaways and only 10 mins walk from the seafront. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning again next year.

House was very cold but soon warmed up when we put the heating on. Floor downstairs has lots of gaps under the carpet so have to watch your step. There is only one bathroom, which was problematic due to the number of us. We had a good weekend and enjoyed our stay but wouldn’t stay again for the above reasons. It was good value for money

  • "We were disappointed on entering the property it smelt damp and musty."

We were further appalled on opening the oven as it was filthy the oven floor and trays had not been cleaned had to clean before we could use oven not what you want to do on holiday. One more appaling thing was the tray in the dish washer which was full of grease. Feel that the property was only surface cleaned the house needs a deep clean. Also there was a number of light bulbs out and the games room was a huge disappointment to our children as they had advertised working games controller abd games console and both were broken. Had to get the maintenance man to fix shower it was set a boiling and we couldn't adjust. It saying all that we did enjoy our holiday but would not recommend this property to any one else.

Thank you for your feedback and we do apologise for any issues that you found during your stay. It is a shame that you only called us regarding the shower and the light bulbs ( to which we attended and rectified ) as we would happily have sent the cleaner back and maintenance to check the games controller and games console . We want all of our guests to have a great stay and we are always on hand if any issues arise during a stay. Thank you again Property Owner

house smelled damp. mattresses badly stained ( no mattress protector) and a double sheet was stretched to use on a king size mattress, so didn't reach down the sides to fully cover the mattress, and because it was so tight, when you sat on it the mattress turned up at both ends. really needs a second toilet ( one toilet between 8 people is useless, especially when bath or shower is in use) needs to be mentioned in description that there are numerous and steep stairs ( no good if you have any mobility issues) cleaners still on site and not finished at 4pm when we arrived. beds were horrendously uncomfortable, could feel the springs, and they creaked every time you moved. wind howled through the house when bedroom doors were shut keeping everyone awake at night. cracked and loose grouting in bathroom, and flooring sticking up needs to be re-glued Plus Points. close to pleasure beach and promenade. house was big, and had all that was needed. games room was a big plus for the kids in the evenings. we have used Sykes holidays a few times now and this house sadly is not of there usual standard it was more like student accommodation, basic and not homely at all, lack of love and tlc, and general maintenance

My sons enjoyed the games room as they could relax playing the Xbox after being out in the town which is only a 5 min walk away or doing University coursework which they brought with them so the free Wi-Fi helped a lot. The beds were very comfortable and the parking permit was good for parking in the street as it is a permit holders area.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. Property Owner

Towels provided also really helpful. Liked the touches such as matching cushions and blankets on the beds. Games room great and kept the kids happy. Short walk to the promenade and easy tram access, good location. Would definitely stay again.

  • "We absolutely loved our stayat St Heliers, however there are a few points we'd like to make in order to improve the property for future guests."

.. Critique: As many others have pointed out, the property would benefit hugely from a second toilet downstairs (perhaps part of the laundry room could be converted). The house requires a more thorough clean throughout, before each new guest arrival. Stains on the walls, a thin layer of dust on surfaces & dusty old carpets could easily be improved. There was someone else's used disposable BBQ in the back yard when we arrived, along with cigarette butts, which was off-putting. Also PLEASE get some larger bowls - we bought cereal to eat and it was like eating it out of a thimble using the bowls provided, they're tiny! The bin was surrounded by small flies when we arrived too, could probably use a thorough wash with hot water and bleach. The kitchen sink needs a washing up bowl to help reduce water use. Good stuff: We loved the provision of WiFi, the handy guide provided before our stay, on-street parking with permit, the washer & dryer facilities, the games room for the kids was a huge hit, the large fridge-freezer, dining table with plenty of space and chairs, the several bedrooms and comfy beds, extra bedding and towels provided, and the general enormity of the property. The house is huge and you definitely have enough room to spread out, enjoy plus everyone have their own space as a family. Thanks so much for a lovely stay - hopefully improvements can be made and we'll recommend you to anyone heading to Blackpool in future!

  • "My family and I stayed in St Heliers in mid July for a weeks holiday and found the house to be very spacious and clean and had everything we needed."

we got a parking permit from the owner so we could park outside the house as the road is for permit holders only. The beds were comfy and my sons enjoyed using the games room and playing on the XBox. The property was only a 5 min walk from the nearest pub and 10 mins walk from the seafront. The only thing I would recommend for the property would be to add a downstairs lavatory as if someone is in the shower you have to wait a while if you need the toilet. I would recommend to any groups or families.

  • "Highly recommended."

We were large family group of 8 adults and found the house roomy and comfortable. The property was well equipped & the owers communication prior to our arrival was very good providing us with lots of useful property information and tips for a great break. Would definitely rebook to stay at the property again. The house was 10-15 walk to the sea front and tram stop. As there was only one parking space allocated to the property we parked our additional cars in Bloomfield car park which was reasonably priced and only a short walk from the property.

  • "Excellent location for all that Blackpool has to offer, within walking distance of all amenities."

We had two cars with us and host was very helpful with supplying details of a car park for the second as you can only park one car on the road. Host was helpful with a comprehensive welcome pack and additional questions for recommendation. Only a few things that let the place down the biggest was the cleanness of the place, kitchen had food out of date in cupboards, flowers that had died weeks ago in a vase in the Window, bathroom looked like it needed a deep clean making us bleach the toilet n sink area before use. No toilet brush supplied. Bedrooms were very comfortable and had fresh sheets and good space. Another big factor was there’s no normal tv channels on any of tvs so unless you have your own subscriptions to added extra such Netflix or a bbc log in you couldnt watch tv at all this should be Basic to have at least free view via an aerial. Overall we enjoyed our stay and was want we needed for our weekend to enjoy Blackpool

  • "Cleaners could do with looking up when dusting."

Lots of hanging dust trails especially around lights. Perhaps a quick check of crockery etc to see if clean. Maybe a quick squirt of air freshener too. On the whole it was a lovely place to stay. Shame about the neighbours and street but that's out of your control of course.
