"This is a lovely cottage and lived up to the description."
The upstairs was lovely and cosy plus well equipped. The whole house was very clean. It’s a good location for Coniston and South Lakes. Two local pubs which was handy. The Farmers Arms just 5 mins walk up the road was brilliant and community owned and was the best one in my opinion. The bedrooms were nice and lots of interesting bold games and great sound system. I found the double bed a bit on the small side but that is a minor point. It was a lovely peaceful location and would recommend it to people. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Thank you for taking the time to give us such lovely feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed staying at our cottage. Property Owner

"There were no logs provided for the log burner."
It would have been useful to have some pyrex bowls and pasta dishes in the Kitchen. We were very careful with the worktop in the kitchen but perhaps some trivets would be a good idea for people who are not so careful. However we did appreciate the excellent towels and bedding. The Sony system was an unexpected bonus.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. Logs: Apologies if the log bucket wasn't left filled as normal. However, there is a large wood store in the front garden, which is available for guests to use to save having to travel for fuel, and the first bucket is free. Kitchen Items: There should have been a couple of wooden pan stands, I'll ask our cleaner to check that these aren't missing. There should be a set of pasta bowls in the cupboard behind the plates or breakfast bowls. There is a selection of oven dishes in the corner cupboard along with the baking equipment, but we will review this to see if we need to make any additions. We are glad you liked the linen, towels and the Sony system. We hope you enjoyed our corner of the Lakes. Property Owner

"The cottage is clearly being well maintained by the owner."
However, the carpets in the common areas show signs of spillages and mucky boot stains which would benefit from being replaced with hardwood flooring. There is a community run pub serving good food within 400 yards. The cottage is perfectly located for those looking to tour the towns and villages of the mid and southern lakes or for keen walkers.
Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback and we hope you have enjoyed your stay. With reference to the carpets we do have a full house carpet clean booked in as part of some scheduled maintenance we be having in the next couple of weeks. Again, thank you for your feedback. not much info on local facilities/shops etc.

"If this is an example of a Sykes Cottage we will definitely be booking again with Sykes later on in the year."
Accomodation first class. We were even greeting by the next door residents.Beatutiful Countryside but within easy reach of Ulverston and Kendal. Well done Sykes
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. We hope you enjoy your next holiday as much and that you visit us again in the future. Property Owner

"A very comfortable and spacious cottage, within a fantastic location."
We visited Ulverston, Bardsea and Coniston which are all within 10-20min drive from the property. Both pubs nearby were warm and welcoming. We definitely will be booking again!
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay in our cottage and exploring the local area. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

"Fabulous clean comfortable cottage with everything you might need."
Very helpful owner who did his best to assist us after unhelpful response from Sykes. Very disappointed with Sykes
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found the cottage to your liking, and it was equipped with everything that you needed. We take all other comments on board. Thank you- The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

"This is an excellent property; so intelligently configured with the delightful open plan living arrangement and the bedrooms downstairs."
Settees are truly comfortable after a day out and the kitchen is well equipped and very spacious for food preparation. Also, there is plenty of space for coats and walking boots etc by both the front and back doors. The bed is also very comfortable and there is a powerful shower in the en-suite. We would definitely return to Laurel Cottage!
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review, we hope to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner

"Cottage was lovely very clean and tidy great place to stay."
Had a problem with the key snapped in the lock phoned the owner he couldn’t do enough to help would highly recommend.
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay dispite the unfortunate problem with the lock. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future . Property Owner

"As we always put ground sheets down for our dog so she doesn't mark the carpet with her paws, I was shocked to find the carpet very marked and patches everywhere of stains ."
. so the first time in one of your cottages I have seen this. Also the taps in the en-suite hardly produced any water. Usually in the cottages we stay in there is a welcome basket which is always so lovely .. there was nothing here. I wouldn't stay here for a week, but as we came up for a funeral then it was adequate for what we needed. I have photos of the carpet if you need evidence.
We are so sorry to hear that our cottage has not lived up to your expectations. We pride ourselves on high standards and can assure that our carpets and soft furnishings are professionally cleaned at the very least on a twice yearly basis. Whilst we appreciate all feedback we would prefer any issues to be raised when first noticed so that we can address them for you as quickly as possible. We have now brought forwards our next carpet clean and have a plumber attending to fix the defective tap in the ensuite. Once again, we are sorry about the issue you experienced during your stay. "Lovely cottage."
Had everything we needed. Liked the upside down layout. Best showers in any place we’ve ever stayed.
-
"Had a lovely stay at Laurel cottage, was very clean and had everything we needed, the only drawback was the gate at the front could do with some chicken wire or a wooden board at the bottom, as our dog could easily fit through the gaps, which he managed to do, so had to sit in the back garden."
Lovely meals at the Royal Oak pub, which is open Weds to Sunday. Our dog Milo enjoyed paddling in the river opposite the cottage. All in all a good week
-
"Lovely cottage everything you need is provided."
Great location, take a while to sit on the green opposite by the stream and you’ll be rewarded with a kingfisher flying past.
-
"Not really as advertised."
pub one minute away - closed for renovations. there is no river walk of 5 mins to pub in next village. you can access a small part of the river, then becomes private land/allotments. to walk further you have to walk along a narrow, busy, road with no path. unsuitable for dogs or children. "enclosed garden" (in one listing) or "enclosed patio" in another, with beautiful views is actually a tiny scruffy paved area with a view of the car park and a neighbour's garage. not suitable for a dog and you wouldnt choose to sit out there. views to the front are of cars and the main road in. you can see the small grassy area and river to the side. and there is no fishing (advertised on one site as available). would not recommend it to dog owners. inside is open plan and very small. might be ok for tiny dog but they would want to run up and down stairs (which our dog is not allowed to do at home). the way the rules are written are not particularly friendly either. i expected an enclosed area where our dog could run around in the morning and then we could have a pleasant river walk to get food in the evening. absolutely not. after a 7 hour drive we arrived in the evening unable to let the dog run round, no local pub. next pub fully booked (it would be nice if it said on website the The Manor House at Oxen Bridge needs booking. we did late, twice, and it was absolutely lovely meal with friendly staff). next nearest pubs were either closed or no food on at the weekend. forced to eat chips in a car park. i nearly cried. awful start. however, the Lake District itself was beautiful. We only used the cottage to sleep in . neighbours were very nice and helpful. just felt sorry for our dog. i will note in future, just because a cottage accepts dogs it does not mean it is "dog friendly"
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's disappointing to hear that your stay was not as you hoped. Please allow us to try to address some of your points. Pubs - The temporary closure of the local pub for refurbishment is completely beyond our control. We cannot monitor the opening times and booking requirements of the local pubs and restaurants, and post Covid some may have made changes to their offer. As is common across the country, pubs and restaurants can be busy in the evenings and at weekends so booking ahead is the only way to guarantee a table. Garden - The garden would be too small to exercise dogs but there are an abundance of lanes, paths and tracks easily accessible from the village. We have checked the listing on one of the sites regarding the view and accept they could be clearer and we will request that this is changed. River - The River is accessible from the property though you are correct that you can't walk along the river at this point, you need to walk approx 15 mins to gain access to the section of the river that leads to Greenodd. Fishing - This forms part of a list of possible activities in the general area for all local properies and is not specific to Laurel Cottage or the river Crake. Propert Size - We do not specify a sq ft figure but we would hope the numerous photos on the listing would give a good feel for the size and suitability of the property. Again we are sorry you felt disappointed in your stay. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage and very comfortable."
It is in a convenient location and we had a splendid time. For me the two things that would improve my stay were, first, cushions on the couches. The couches were too deep without. Also the TV is very small and set down low so changing the channels was sometimes a bit of a contortion. However this did not interfere with our stay and we would come again.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the feedback regarding the cushions, these will now be provided. We hope to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner
-
"Another great stay - thank you!"
Our third!! We loved the upgraded shower in the en suite. Kitchen facilities as usual were great - everything you need for a week away. We felt almost immediately at home. Farmers Arms at the top of the road is good too - delicious burgers and love that it’s run by a farmers cooperative.
Thank you for choosing to stay in Laurel Cottage again. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage."
Very clean and well equipped. Village very quiet, definitely need a car to get about. Local bus service runs Monday to Friday but quite limited. Two lovely pubs one more or less next door the other five minutes up the hill. Good base to explore the lakes.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner
-
"A perfect place to explore the South Lakes."
The cottage was immaculately clean and very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. We loved the upside down living. We enjoyed a drive to Greenodd, walk on the river and then coffee and cake at Bakehouse Born and Bread Cafe. Would highly recommend this lovely cottage, we will definitely return.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

"Property was nice although carpet a nightmare for dogs, cream in colour."
Upside down living - could not sleep if anyone upstairs as noice from flooring was quite loud. On suite facilities in bedroom. Could not sit on toilet properly as very close to wall. Shower was very good. Central heating very noisy. Still trying to find river walk! Pub shuts on Monday and Tuesday, no food until Friday and weekend. Pub at top a community pub only open part week.
Thank you for your feedback. We do hope you enjoyed your stay despite the charms and quirks of our older property not being to your liking. The carpets are indeed light in colour as shown in the photos. Our caretaker works hard to ensure that the cottage is spotless for every guest; the carpets are thoroughly cleaned between every stay and professionally cleaned several times a year to keep them fresh and hygienic. Unfortunately, hospitality everywhere has faced real challenges so some temporary changes in what our local pubs can offer is sadly inevitable. Our information for visitors lists other good, family pubs nearby to give several options. We have had the central heating checked and whilst there weren't any faults we will monitor this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

"The cottage was really clean ,warm and we'll appointed."
The only criticism we could have is that from our point the mattresses were way too soft for comfort but everything else was great.
-
"Such a gorgeous cottage, set in a lovely area with beautiful scenery."
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Loved the layout, the decor and furnishings were all lovely too. It had everything we needed, we didn’t need to use the log burner as it was so warm while we stayed but we will definitely be back so hopefully we will get to use it next time. Couldn’t fault the cottage at all, would definitely recommend!
-
"Laurel Cottage is a great place to base ourselves for Lake adventures."
The cottage was perfect for our family ( 2 adults, 2 children and dog) and everything we needed for our holiday. Tastefully done out and really comfortable - a perfect place to relax on our holiday. The topsy turvey living worked really well We loved it!
-
"This was our second stay at Laurel Cottage and we loved it just as much as the first time."
We love having an upside down house and a super well equipped kitchen. We found the beds super comfortable and it’s great having two bathrooms. Eat at the local pub which had changed hands since we were last there in 2018 but food nice and good being only 400 yards away from the cottage. Lovely quiet location away from the tourist hubs which we also like. We are hoping to book again for 2022.
-
"There were cobwebs that was hanging from the fire flute."
We couldn't get into the property until after 1530 hrs due to cleaners still been there. The matteress was uncomfortable.
We are so sorry you were delayed getting access to Laurel Cottage. Despite the extra work for our caretaker to keep the property Covid secure, we have tried to keep departure and arrival times as normal. Unfortunately, on this occasion there was a delay. Also our apologies for the cobweb on the flue being missed. We will look into the matter. Property Owner
-
"The cottage was very clean and everything had been thought of, the location was great sadly both village pubs were shut down."
Great base for touring around the lakes. Our only disappointment was that the mattress was too soft but then that’s a personal taste, everything else was perfect .
Thank you for your kind feedback. The Royal Oak has now reopened for drinks and will soon be serving food after it completes its programme of refurbishment. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage which was spotlessly clean and in good location - very warm as ..."
Lovely cottage which was spotlessly clean and in good location - very warm as well so no need to use fire two local pubs one of which is closed and the other under temporary management so that was shame but plenty within short drive - manor house at oxen park very good for food
-
"General cleanliness was ok but attention to detail was poor when you looked closer."
Down the side of bend side cabinets dusty and hairs. Bathroom grout and sealer around shower black mould, hairs in shower, cobwebs down the side of bedroom radiator, inside window ledges dusty and a smell of damp dog as you walk in . There was also a strong smell of drains on our first day coming from the en-suite.A welcome pack of tea coffee milk ect would be a nice touch. Some nice touches such as PlayStation and firewood supply. Comfy sofas a plus and the location is great for exploring.
Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Laurel Cottage. We try hard to maintain a high standard so it was disappointing to hear this was not the case in some areas. Please be assured we have now addressed the specific areas you have raised. We have checked and there appears to be no on going issue with the en-suite bathroom. Property Owner

"The cottage is just has you advertised."
We meet the housekeeper who was very friendly helpful.I would recommend this cottage.
-
"Lovely cosy cottage."
Utility room at back was so handy when coming back from days out with the dog. Good location for exploring the surrounding Lake District.
-
"My son (8 years old) enjoyed our stay here."
The cottage has everything you need for a trouble free hub for your Lake District experience. The owners have thought of everything and the care taker is hands on and helpful. Kitchen is fully equipped. Bathrooms are clean. The bedrooms are downstairs which keeps them cool during the summer, an absolute plus. Closest super market is 10 minutes away but you can easily swing by on your way back to the cottage so not a huge problem. The cottage is clean, spacious and just extremely comfortable and private. Small garden at the back which catches the evening sun. We loved it and will absolutely be booking it again.
-
"This was the second time we went back to this cottage, it was so comfortable and the neighbours are lovely."
.. we have used Sykes many times and have found that nothing is ever a problem for them. The staff are always very helpful... we’re already looking for our next holiday - with them.
-
"Lovely, warm, spacious and well equipped cottage."
Comfortable beds, two bathrooms and a large open plan living dining area. Great location for Coniston Water and Lake Windermere as well as Ulverston and the coast. The utility/boot room is a major asset for muddy boots and dogs, damp wetsuits etc. Highly recommend!
-
"Fabulous home from home base for visiting the Lake District."
can't think of anything to improve what is a super cottage.
-
"Cottage was cold and draughty, a bit worn around the edges and very messy outside."
Local information supplied was very sparse and mostly out of date.
We would like to thank you for this feedback. Please be assured this issue was promptly rectified and was as a result of neighbouring work, as such a rare occurrence for Laurel Cottage. We hope to see you again. Property Owner

"Had a lovely time at this cottage."
Log fire was a lovely bonus. Our dogs enjoyed the stay and the local area too. Would highly recommend.

What a wonderful little cottage in a great spot there is everything you need in the kitchen and a very short walk too the pub
-
"It was gret to know we had everything we needed in the cottage."
The log fire was great to have and to have an unlimited supply of wood was an unexpected bonus. I almost wanted it to rain all week so we could stay in the cottage. We had so much to do if we needed it, It was alos a nice surpise to know we had Amazon and Netflix paid for. If you were snowed in, you would be quite happy to stay in the cottage with all the games and facilities available. Couldnt fault it, it must be the best cottage we have stayed in.
-
"Beautiful cottage with good furnishings, quality kitchenware and linen."
The only let down was the local pub, looks lovely from the outside, but the interior let it down together with the opening hours and lack of food, which was due to their supplier letting them down.
-
"The cottage was very clean and comfy , a good location for the south lakes."
We had a nice time at the cottage, with the local pub just a short walk away. Just what we needed.
-
"The cottage and location were both beautiful."
My family and I loved it! The cottage is very clean and nicely decorated and equipped in a successful fusion of modern and traditional. The local pub is also very nice, quality food in a welcoming atmosphere. We would 100% recommend Laurel Cottage and Sykes.
-
"We had a lovely relaxing week."
The cottage had everything we needed, was lovely that it was so close to the pub
-
"Enjoyed our return visit to Laurel Cottage."
New Smart TV is a great bonus. Very comfortable cottage, with everything that could be needed. Just one thing - please ensure that the directions are amended. They currently tell you to cross the dual carriageway and head for Lowick. This is not now the case, there is a roundabout, so should turn right for Greenodd. Lowick is not mentioned at all on any of the road signs, so very confusing in the directions.
