"The property location was just perfect for our family of 7 with some great countryside views and not too far from Windermere lake and town."
However, basic amenities like toiletries (hand wash, shower gel etc.) was not provided. In addition, the place was too dusty and humid on the top floor. The carpet was not cleaned thoroughly, the utensils provided to cook food were not washed or were very torn out. The furniture too including the sofa and beds were very dusty. Overall, considering the hygiene and cleanliness, it was a put off.
Thank you for your feedback We are sorry that you were unhappy with aspects of the property , but we would of happily assisted you during your stay if you had contacted us. We pride ourselves on ensuring all our guests have a great time . Thank you again for your comments Property Owner

"Lovely property in a great location to access the Lakes & Yorkshire."
We were a group of 6 adults and it was a perfect size for us. Clean & good facilities, warm & comfortable. Beautiful views (although was quite misty whilst we were there). The local village (Staveley) is about 1.5 miles away down a little country lane, there is a great pub, a brewery, coffee shops etc there and only 15 mins from Windermere / Bowness. Would definitely come back to this accommodation.

"We have just had a lovely stay at Ghyll Bank Byre."
Lovely spacious rooms and well equipped kitchen. Each bedroom has its own enduite. Stunning views of the countryside. Sheep were quite often just outside the back of the property which was nice. Would highly recommend this property and hope to come back another year.
-
"I have booked this property for the last 3 years to stay with friends and we love it."
The facilities are great and it's close enough to Staveley to go for a good walk, but far enough away to enjoy the peace. It's well located between Ambleside and Windermere.

"We had a fantastic holiday at Ghyll Bank Byre."
Great location, beautiful scenery and wonderful house. Only things that were a slight shame were that the floors hadn’t been hoovered properly when we arrive and the dishwasher didn’t drain properly so we had to wash up a bit. A little more direction would also have been useful in regards to recycling rubbish and the bins. Also the shower in the downstairs bedroom en-suite didn’t drain properly and water gathered around the drain. Genuinely though, great holiday, and none of the above would stop us coming again in a heartbeat! Thanks for having us!

"It seemed a bit mean to provide only one toilet roll per toilet."
You will know that a guest always appreciates hand soap, and a decent amount of washing-up liquid.
-
"Great location, stunning views."
Cottage lovely with great bathrooms, warm and cosy but…… marred by being so dirty. Flies on blinds, thick dust on furniture upstairs, lounge door windows filthy, cutlery tray greasy, floors in bathrooms dirty, cobwebs galore and so it went on. Kitchen could have been enhanced by more utensils, a potato peeler for example and better casserole dishes. More coffee mugs needed too - one cracked and one chipped. Such a shame to find these things letting down the whole stay experience.

"What a lovely relaxing week we had!"
The weather was perfect, absolutely beautiful surroundings, the accommodation was lovely, had everything we needed. Will definitely look to book again
-
"The area was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring."
The property was basically good in terms of facilities although dishwasher and fridge didn't work properly. I was surprised at the lack of recycling and it pained me to put all waste in one bin although we did take our bottles to a bank - there's not one in Staveley as the info would suggest btw. Some updating of furniture and beds would make a big difference.
Thank you for your feedback. We can confirm that fridge freezer is now working fine and it was defrosted on changeover. Recycling isn't possible due to it being a business but we are hopeful of local recycling returning but it is only cardboard at the moment Thank you again for your comments Property Owner

"A bit disappointed as it’s not as brilliant as it was made out."
The inside of the kettle was black so had to use a pan to boil water for coffee, tea etc.
Thank you for feedback. I can confirm that the kettle has now been replaced. Property Owner

"We absolutely loved the cottage!"
It was bright, clean, apart from the cobwebs in the twin room but that wasn’t a major issue. It is in a wonderful location in such a beautiful place with the most spectacular view. We would 100% book to go back. I loved watching the lambs playing, listening to them calling and spent hours sat outside just enjoying the peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of a normally crazy life. The cottage is extremely warm and cosy and had just about everything you needed. As a country bumpkin my whole life this was a peace of heaven for me.

"A much more spacious alternative to the smaller properties you might find for the same price in the neighbouring tourist hotspots."
Plenty of parking space, excellent views, ample heating and hot water for all any time of day... and even a reliable internet connection, showing the owners have acted on previous feedback. As long as you are fine with pet friendly accommodation (as clearly stated in the property info) and, in all likelihood, needing a designated driver/taxi service to get to and from evenings out at pubs/restaurants, this property provides comfortable and good value accommodation. Cleaner than I expected for a property welcoming pets. Could improve to top comfort ratings with slightly wider beds in the twin bedroom, as 6 foot+ adults have very little margin for error if they roll over in the night like me. May also benefit from some extra baking trays/roasting tins and a pizza tray or two in the kitchen, if guests are intending to prepare self catering meals for 6-7 people in the large oven.

"The property is very comfortable and we'll equipped."
Sitting out on the patio of an evening chatting with views of the hills and a sunset was a real pleasure. The en suite showers are excellent - important when you've been out hill walking. It would have helped to have instructions for the dishwasher and heating. Despite multiple attempts we didn't manage to turn the heating down enough. The Sykes instructions for the cottage says depart time is 9:00 but the instructions in the cottage say 10:00??? Altogether a great stay and will consider coming again.

"We had a really enjoyable stay."
The property was clean and had everything we needed for a long weekend. It’s well located and has amazing views.
-
"I feel that there was a need to replace both of the thin Sets of blinds in the downstairs bedroom and also the kitchen and back door."
The only thing that was missing out of the kitchen was a good pair of scissors but other than that we had an absolutely amazing week there.
-
"The house had not been cleaned properly as rubbish was found under the coffee table, cigarettes ends on the shelf of the BBQ and the BBQ had been left dirty."
Left over food was found in many of the cupboards so it was apparent that nothing was throughly checked. We were a party of 7, and clearly the dinning table was not designed to adequately fit all of us despite 7 chairs and the dinning area being very tight. The kitchen barely had enough equipment to cook and even basic items like a tin opener and potato peeler were not supplied. Blinds all need replacing as falling off the walls and one was stuck up with plasters! Overall the property just felt tired. The views were amazingly but slightly let down by the tired washing line in front of our living room patio door. Lovely to have sheep nearby too.
-
"Excellent property, very remote feeling."
Lot's of sheep on the hills, very relaxing. Despite the owner advertising fiber broadband, we were not able to connect the entire weekend. Owner made an attempt to fix, but was very spotty and we eventually gave up.
-
"Lovely barn conversion in a beautiful elevated spot."
Very comfortable, modern finish, and well equipped with everything in good working order. WiFi and phone signal was intermittent, but this was made clear on the advertisement prior to booking so no complaints. Brilliant week away - would recommend!
-
"Cottage was a bit rough around the edges but in general had a great time in Staveley."
Lovely pub in village Eagle & Child. Would definitely recommend it. Lovely walks around the cottage and beautiful scenery.

"Ghyll Bank Byre is one of 5 holiday lets on the site, 3 of which are part of an old barn."
Ghyll Bank Byre is the largest of the 3, having 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The property is accessed via an uphill single track road with passing places and has a very sharp hairpin bend, so not suitable for very large vehicles like motor homes. The view from the property is brilliant in every direction and cannot be faulted. We were very lucky with the weather in September. The property itself is very good but let down by a few things which is a pity, but in my view if these things were rectified it would be superb. The main issue is that it needs a deep clean and re-painting in places, which is surprising given that it would not have been used for most of this season due to Covid-19. Things like the table mats, plates and cushions need replacing as they look like they are cast offs from several years ago. The outside furniture is good and the quality of the furniture inside is good. In spite of our grumbles above we had a lovely holiday. There are lots of walks from the property and a great bakery and cafe on a small business park in Staveley. Booths supermarket is very good and easy to get to in Windermere with free parking for 2 hours. One other thing to bear in mind is that the WiFi was very patchy.
-
"It was a very good and comfortable stay."
Really enjoyed our time. The only thing to improve is te wifi connection in the house, it was shaky and didn't work most of the time. Apart from this everything was fabulous.
-
"We had such an amazing time, despite the weather."
The cottage is very warm, even with no heating on. Lovely views and evening walks were filled with wildlife. Windermere is a small drive away and lots to do. We would definitely come again.
-
"Not all the dishes had been cleaned properly so had to wash them all on arrival."
But location and facilities were great. WiFi struggled at times due to all 5 properties being booked out
-
"We would definitely book this again."
House was above expectations and we really wished we could have stayed for longer.
-
"Had a lovely relaxing time at ghyll bank byre absolutely lovely cottage in a lovely setting."
Would definitely recommend if your after a relaxing break.
-
"The description failed to mention that the road leading to the cottage was not really suitable for larger vehicles ( our motorhome)."
The toaster did not work properly and a handle could have been fitted over the step down into the kitchen from the hallway to aid disabled visitors. In general the cottage was very comfortable and the views were spectacular
-
"The accommodation was in a beautiful setting, spacious with clean comfy beds, nice towels and plenty of hot water."
We were disappointed to find the lounge furniture shabby and tired. The general cleanliness was below our standard, we found a dirty tissue on the bedroom floor and under the beds hadn't been hoovered, Window sills and furniture were covered in dust, a disappointing start. We were surprised to find sheep wandering around the patio area in a dog friendly accommodation, we had to keep the dog on the lead at all times. The patio is made from large grey slate which made for unsteady walking and for placing the patio furniture, so we never sat out. We wouldn't use this place again, although fine maybe for younger people and families.
-
"Very pleasant stay despite the weather."
Beautiful surroundings and safe for the children to run around. Nice owners who stopped by to ask how we were getting on. Slightly cramped dining area and bedrooms, but furnished nicely overall and felt very cosy. Very well equipped throughout. The Wi-fi included is intermittent and the phone reception is poor. Would definitely recommend staying here though.
-
"Nice cottage - tucked away but with good access to south lakes."
We went as a family of 7 with our dog. No problem at all - the owner came and checked that everything was ok ! We will come again !
-
"Lovely stay."
Facilities excellent. Beds uncomfortable. Bit of a climb if you walk from the village to the cottage (we didn't) but perfect for a nice relaxing holiday. Oh, and the weather was great. Not too far from local towns, Kendall, Windemere and Ulverston (a must if you're a Laurel and Hardy fan). Overall I would highly recommend this holiday

"This cottage had the potential to be wonderful, and certainly it’s location was heavenly but it was let down by a lack of attention to cleanliness."
I took photos if you are interested in seeing them but dirty kitchen drawers and kitchen appliances - particular the cooker made it difficult to settle in until it had been cleaned. The bedroom side cabinets were dusty and one had sticky cup marks. The mirrors were also dusty. The sofas were stained and grimy (and were actually quite uncomfortable). The sofa cushions too looked as grubby. Although your photos showed that the cottage had recently been updated, so many things were broken or had missing parts. It was such a shame because we wanted a holiday let which we would return to year after year, but sadly despite the wonderful views I really don’t think we will return to this particular cottage.
-
"The cottage was superb, brand new carpets had been laid that day."
The kitchen facilities were superb. The views from the patio were outstanding with views across Langdale pikes and at some point you can see the Irish Sea! A beautiful stay. Thank you.
-
"Comfortable."
Not sure the oven was working properly but did not interfere as fan oven was fine. Would go back!!!
-
"The cottage itself was in a really good location but it is definitely functional."
The lounge was in need of a deep clean, it was not very "comfy" to use as the main seating area. The floors were dirty and the sofas old and looked filthy. The sofas/furniture had also not been moved and hoovered under for a very long time. The kitchen was functional, utensils were old and tired, the pots and pans didn't work on the ceramic hob as they were not flat anymore. There were no basic provisions in the cottage, no pepper or salt, no tea bags, nothing that says welcome. Certainly not enough loo roll to cover 7!! Probably won't come back here again.
-
"Well equipped property in a great location for walks into the Kentmere valley."
-
"The cottage is beautiful with amazing views!"
The couple in charge of the cottage where so friendly and kind. The pictures are spot on and provide a good insight into what it looks like inside the cottage. The house was clean and they had provided most of the basics that we needed. The location is brilliant - right next to Stavely, which has a wonderful bakery, bike shop, brewery and shop for basics. Then just down the road is windermere- such a beautiful lake. Great location and a lovely place to stay- would definitely stay again. Just something to note; The black barn in the directions is no longer black- it has been redone and is wooden. Perhaps some soap in all the bathrooms or let us know if we need to bring our own. Many thanks

"Great base for exploring the Lakes, and very peaceful."
-
"A very quiet , cosy and confortable place to gather with a wonderful view in the middle of fields and sheep."
We just loved it !
-
"The property was as described."
little disappointed that a property in this price range did not have complimentary toiletries and a welcome pack. the beds were comfy and the three en suites were of a good quality although the en suite on the ground floor was a bit tight. this property is not for the disabled or anyone with mobility problems. we enjoyed our short stay and would highly recommend the property for a family or couples who like to be 'away from it all' we would book this property again when we are in the area which of course is stunning.
-
"Very spacious and quiet."
Good location.
-
"One of the upstairs ensuite's smelt very badly of damp."
The beds were very uncomfortable in both the upstairs bedrooms. The kitchen sink was leaking. It was stated that it was within walking distance of Staveley, however this would have been impossible to walk at night back to the house as there were no streetlights, which could have been mentioned in the description. The house was not clean, with cobwebs on the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom and in the living room. The carpet clearly hadn't been hoovered properly as there were dog hairs everywhere. The windows were dirty. It would have been nice if there was a little bar of soap in each bathroom to wash our hands. The downstairs shower tray was cracked.
-
"A very warm and comfortable cottage surrounded by beautiful scenery."
Plenty of interesting walks from the doorstep and all the facilities needed in Staveley.
-
"Amazing cottage with beautiful views."
The children loved the field to play in. The accommodation was much better than we expected and everything was perfect.
-
"A lovely location and good facilities."
Dusty, the dog, particularly appreciated the under-floor heating and didn't want to leave.
-
"GReat location and well equipped."
Nice that the owner came to enquire if all was OK
-
"Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, very comfortable and everything we needed was to hand."
Only draw back was we where too far from the village to stroll in along the dark lanes. Would highly recommend this property and maybe towels be included.
-
"We've just returned from a weekend at Ghyll Bank Byre and it was so good, we've already booked again."
The accommodation was clean and with all the amenities you could want. It was quite remote but we knew this when we booked and the walk to and from Staveley is not as daunting as we thought....particularly when we had sampled the wares of the Hawkshead Brewery! Overall a fabulous weekend and we cannot recommend this place highly enough.
-
"The cottage was of a higher standard than expected."
only wished we had booked for longer
-
"The property is fine, views great."
The down side bit way out from the village .Virtually no internet connection no mobile phone coverage. Would suggest a Pay Phone available one phone to cover all the properties. More info on the village please . Very helpful owners Just minor gripes
