  • "We enjoyed the stay and really liked the cottage and area around."

Unfortunately we had to leave on the Thursday (having only arrived on the Sunday!) but that was no reflection on the property itself, which was really nice.

Lovely pub serving great beer and food, chippy, spa and cafes, what more could you want. Secure garden for those staying with 4 legged friends and nice walks straight from the cottage. Would happily stay again.

  • "Lovely cottage and well equipped."

Lounge area a little dark and lack of table lamps which would make the downstairs fell more homely. Only a minor comment as the cottage was lovely. On arrival it was nice to have a few local beers on the table but after a long journey may be a small milk bottle and a few biscuits would be nice. Loved it and would rebook.

  • "Nice little cottage, clean."

Don’t think the bed is a king size as per the listing, dogs aren’t supposed to go upstairs which I can’t remember reading prior to booking but was stated in the handbook. Location handy for popping into Windermere and not far from Ambleside. Staveley is a small place, we visited the brewery whilst we stayed and also used the chip shop and pizza takeaway, both are excellent. We went for breakfast to Wilfs which was really nice.

  • "A lovely cottage updated and well maintained."

We particularly liked the garden Ted loved chasing after his ball in this long pretty garden. Please note if you do have a dog that the other cottages have access into the garden. This was not a problem throughout our stay. Parking is on the road but again it was not a problem parking in front of the cottage . The bedroom was very big with a comfy bed. I could not fault this cottage and would happily stay again if staying in Staveley.

  • "Overall, this is a lovely cottage that is generally well-equipped and in an excellent location."

Staveley is a lovely village to stay in. The following comments are just things to be aware of / for the owners to consider to really improve the experience of staying at Stone Cottage. Firstly, and most importantly, please replace the mattress and pillows as these are very uncomfortable. I also don't think the bed is king-sized as per the listing. Secondly, little things, but please leave more than one toilet roll for a seven night stay. It doesn't cost much to provide enough toilet roll for the week, but it's very annoying for guests to have to go and buy their own. Also, please provide a towel and/or kitchen roll for the kitchen. Also, for people with a dog, regarding the garden, people should note (as the listing doesn't) that: 1) the neighbours have a right of access through the back garden so can just walk through the garden if they need to. They only did once in the week to put their bin out while we were there. 2) the gate to the garden is a metal gate with gaps between the bars so if you have a very small dog, they could probably fit between these bars. Someone had commented that they had this problem in the guestbook. I didn't mean this to be a complaining review as we had a lovely week, but I just think these are small changes that could really improve people's stay or things that people should be aware of before booking.

Staveley itself - amazing holiday base. Nice eateries (More Artisan Cafe and Bakery - divine dishes, cakes, sourdough and coffees; Mr Duffins coffee - roast their own beans, nice slabs of cake and really good coffee; Kimi’s Gelato - divine homemade ice cream, around 10 different flavours; Eagle and Child Pub - proper pub, fire, pub meals - divine cheese pie providing wet-weather comfort food at its finest and has a quiz night); Hawkshead Brewery taproom - great craft beer; Butchers - really good quality; Spa Shop with all the bits you might need; Chippy - again good quality). And most of the above - cafe/bakery, pub, brewery taproom, coffee shop and gelato shop are dog friendly and within 10 minutes of this cottage. As is a giant bike shop (more like a warehouse) full of kit, bikes, clothes etc. Then location… lots of lovely walks nearby - some right from the door, including some easy ones for our creaky legged dog; great location for keen cyclists - full of happy muddy folk in our wet week); has a train station so you can get really easily to Windermere (which has a big Booths) regular buses; good location for exploring that bit further into Grasmere, Ambleside etc. We love Staveley - grabbed our hearts - and this cottage is a perfect base, especially for dog lovers too. Thank you and thanks for the welcome gift of beer and jam - both enjoyed and that jam was so fruity and divine and perfect for the sourdough from More Bakery that I filled my face with all week!

  • "Charming and very well equipped cottage in small village of Staveley, just a few minutes drive from Windermere."

House is clean and comfortable with a decent sized living and dining area, excellent kitchen with good oven and everything you need for a week self catering. Nice conservatory/sun room at the back. There is a long lawned garden at the rear which our greyhound enjoyed running up and down. Bike storage available in the lockable garden shed although there isn’t much space so you may struggle to fit more than one bike in there (particularly MTBs). Decent sized bedroom with large comfortable bed and plenty of storage/spare bedding. Amazing shower. DVD player advertised on Sykes but not present - not a problem for us but worth considering if the forecast isn’t good! Location wise, Staveley is a great choice for exploring the area. Only ten minutes drive (or 25 min cycle) to Bowness and similar to Kendal. The village has a Spar for essentials and a few cafes, also a large Wheelbase bike shop which is very well stocked. The Hawkshead Brewery is well worth a visit, excellent beer and live music on Sundays. We really enjoyed our week in Staveley and would definitely stay at Stone Cottage again if we return.

Perfect for a couple and a dog. Enclosed back garden but our skinny cockapoo squeezed through the bars in the gate and visited next door. • "Listed facilities included WiFi, iPod docking Station and Smart TV."

We had no WiFi all week so no Smart TV. I emailed you about it on the Thursday but didn't receive a response. There was no iPod docking station. The heating system didn't work properly because of the lack of WiFi. It came on at 3am in the morning on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and I couldn't override the system. Even though there was a little postcard on the table saying please enjoy these gifts, there were none there. From the visitor book it seems like they were bottled beers and a jar of jam - so maybe whoever cleans the property decided to help themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to provide further feedback following your stay at Stone Cottage. We would like to apologise that the plug for the Wi-Fi Router had been inadvertently switched/knocked off prior to your arrival and was easily rectified. We appreciate this will have had an adverse effect on the Smart TV and Hive Heating system, however had you contacted ourselves earlier in the week, we would of course attended to this sooner. We would like to apologise for the confusion surrounding the welcome gifts. Stone Cottage had a stand in cleaner the day of your arrival who was unaware of these items, and we apologise for the oversight on this occasion. We do hope that despite these shortfalls you had an enjoyable time in the Lakes as we hope to welcome you back in the not too distant future. Property Owner

Arrived just after Storm Arwen to a Village power cut so the toasty wood burner was a godsend! Really well equipped, great modern kitchen - the oven is a fancy Neff one with a retractable door - and great shower. Lovely long garden which is secure for dogs and so nice to have the bright and light conservatory as an extra space too. Staveley is a fantastic base - great for walks, has super local shops (Kimi’s Gelato, Hawkshead Brewery, More Artisan Bakery and Cafe, Mr Duffins roasting their own coffee, proper butchers, Eagle and Child pub with roaring open fire). Really lovely owners too - we were very impressed when they got in touch directly to check we were okay as the power cut was for three days. They were very helpful as were the shops in the Village - we were offered hot water at Kimi’s, the pubs let us charge phones -really friendly place.
