  • "We did complete the tasks from your reminder to assist the cleaner."

Review of Thyme Out: We enjoyed our week, the weather was particularly kind, the walking was good and the garden area was very pleasant, But: 1.The freezer was so iced up, the door would not close properly. 2.Midweek, the boiler switched of mysteriously (no hot water) and only the persistence of the called out maintenance engineer rectified the reason. 3.The radiators, apart from the first day (a rainy one) would not adjust up in temperature, as they should as indicated in the instructions book. 4. The gas fired stove in the lounge area had a note attached 'Not in Use'. The inlet pipe outside is cut and capped so not working for every guest. Again referenced as working in the Instructions Book and Website. Disappointing. David

  • "We were initially booked into a completely different (non Sykes) property that on arrival was found to have a terrible mould issue so unable to stay, we found Thyme Out at the very last minute."

Both Sykes and the owner were incredibly helpful and responsive in arranging the booking for us and we were absolutely delighted on arriving at this property. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated / furnished, comfortable and the views from every window were incredible. We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Thyme Out and will definitely return. It really turned a potentially very disappointing holiday into a very relaxing and enjoyable one. Thank you.

A lovely warm, comfortable and extremely well equipped property with picturesque views from all rooms. We appreciated the homely touches too. We hope to return to take advantage of the delightful garden. Hiking from the door was a bonus. We couldn’t find fault with anything at all. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Thank you for your lovely comments which are very much appreciated. As you say we do have from our cottage picturesque views of Troutbeck Valley in winter and summer and several walks from our front door. Hope you will return to enjoy our garden in the summer with a glass of wine of course. The owners. Property Owner

  • "This property is all about the location - the cottage is great but would be a struggle for 4 adults for more than a couple of days as there is limited space downstairs."

It’s very well equipped and the garden is great. Some milk in the fridge would have been appreciated as we arrived late on a Saturday evening, also there was no kitchen towel and no spare loo roll which I found unbelievable - we have never stayed at a rental property where this wasn’t available and the last thing we want to do on holiday is go shopping for loo roll!

Thank you for your comments. We take all comments on board. As the property is self catering, milk is not always provided. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team Property Owner

  • "This is not unique to Thyme Out, cottage isn't warm enough!"

The radiators are on minimum settings and hours. As with many stays in The Lakes (at least once/twice a year) we experienced sun, rain, hail and snow and there should be the option to make a place warmer. I also could not have a bath as the shower water temperature was not warm enough. Shame. However, Troutbeck is a fabulous area and no doubt I’ll be back in one the Cottages soon .

Thank you for your comments. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Concerning heating, the radiators can be adjusted by touching the + or - buttons on the front of each radiator, our instruction folder gives you instructions about this. If they are off during their set program they can also be turned on by pressing the centre button. Further to your comment about hot water for a bath we have increased the temperature in the hot water tank which should then provide more hot water. We take all comments on board. We do hope you will visit our cottage again, Lakelovers are always on hand to assist if required. Kind regards The Owners Property Owner

Only two of us so very comfortable. Couple of small maintenance issues with a blind and overhead cooker extractor. Did not trouble us too much so reported on day of departure. Assume now all put right . Views and local walks outstanding. Two great foodie pubs and charming cafe within easy walking distance. Will hopefully be returning soon. Such a relaxing and tranquil cottage and surroundings.

  • "Generally speaking we found the cottage and garden to be comfortable and a home from home."

However there were some things that could have been better. I agree with comments left in the guest book that the sofa is not particularly comfortable. There was the usual issue of not enough cutlery when there is a dishwasher, numerous spoons including soup spoons but only 4 forks! The shower hose in the main bathroom has so many leaks that it was not useable. Both the extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen need a good clean. Saucepans that hadn’t been washed properly had been put back in the cupboard. We throughly enjoyed our week at Thyme out but just feel that a bit more care and attention is required as mentioned above. However we would certainly return.

Dear Sean Thank you for your feedback. We have replaced the whole of the cutlery and have no idea why there was a shortage of forks. The shower bath hose has been replaced. The main shower is a fixed overhead shower head which has been checked and is in full working order. The extractor fans have been attended to and our cleaner informed of the sauce pans that had been left in an unsatisfactory manner. We do hope you return as many of our clients do. Ground floor bedroom en-suite shower pressure needs adjusting to avoid scalding on the high setting. (Low pressure light comes on.) Could do with at least one large saucepan.

Dear Charles Thank you for you feedback. The downstairs shower was found to be faulty and has been repaired. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this caused. We have also now added a large saucepan as you suggested. Thank you also for describing our cottage as excellent it does have one of the best views of the valley than most other properties. Having said that we have noticed that the damp smell from the lower bedroom/ bathroom has progressively become more noticeable, to a level this time that we actively shut the bedroom door to avoid it. Also it could do with a good clean, some cobwebs and flaky paint etc, other than that we love the cottage.

Dear Darren Thank you for your feedback. Your comments about the lower bedroom have been attended to and our cleaner informed about cobwebs. Kind regards The owners Property Owner

Disgraceful customer service ,we should have been warned beforehand and we would have cancelled,We were never given the chance!!!!!!!! Irony being we actually asked the question are there any building works still in progress prior to paying our final balance!!!!!!

Due to miscommunication the guest was not advised prior to arrival that the work on the neighbouring property had over run. The owner had taken steps to make us aware of this and it is regrettable that we did not pass this on. This matter has been resolved directly with the Guest. Property Owner

Take a spell of Thyme Out in tranquil Troutbeck!

One of the finest settings in the Lake District surrounds this stunning Lakeland cottage, slate-built and with the most glorious garden to take advantage of those incredible and uninterrupted fell views.

A paradise of peace in a magical place! Impeccably presented, Thyme Out is a designer treat, perfectly put together for our Lakelovers and themed with a restful décor that complements the green and peaceful landscape in Troutbeck.

The epitome of a chic, modern country cottage, the authentic old-world charm of this rural retreat has been lovingly preserved while ensuring that contemporary quality has been implemented to exacting standards. Outside, the garden is a true delight, leaning lazily against the slopes of this beautiful valley, planted with gorgeous shrubs, and benefitting from a lovely level grassed area and superb sun-trap patio.

From here, the views across the valley to the rugged hilltops are simply breath-taking, and many happy hours can be spent out here just taking it all in. If you want to eat out or spend a lazy afternoon in a fabulous beer garden, the Mortal Man Inn is pleasingly close by, and the Queen's Head is too, another fantastic authentic Lakeland pub serving tasty fare.

Below you in the valley, Troutbeck Tongue is a small fell that makes for great walking, with panoramic views of the higher summits from its top, and you can also choose to walk over the hillsides to Ambleside or over the rough Garburn Pass to remote Kentmere.

There are a host of lower level walks, and with Bowness and Ambleside in easy striking distance, there is always something new to discover.

Don't miss a leisurely day on the Lake Windermere Steamers! Troutbeck is a real rural community, seemingly surviving from a bygone era, and Thyme Out is a terrific space in which to slow down and stop the clocks for a while!

About the location

TROUTBECK

Windermere 3 miles; Ambleside 4 miles.

The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
