"We had a wonderful stay in Byre Cottage."
The property is in a beautiful location, with access to many places of interest. We loved Appleby and Kirkby Stephen which are very close, plus Rutter Falls, a totally unexpected bonus with very easy access. The upside down layout works well, providing spacious living accommodation, comfortably furnished and well equipped. The en-suite bedrooms have sleep inducing beds in generously sized rooms. The local pub is very close and well worth a visit; the village itself is delightful and offers many opportunities to go walking or just meander around. We would love to go back.
-
"Beautiful property and well maintained."
Host was exceptionally welcoming, kindly providing milk, butter, bread and eggs, tea and coffee. Beds were very comfortable, plenty of storage for clothing. Powerful shower over the bath and good electric shower in the other ensuite. Lovely maintained outside seating area. Friendly local pub in easy walking distance - book a table in advance. Lovely village walks. Whatever the weather we always found something to do/visit.

"After a long flight from Australia and feeling very tired Byre Cottage was the perfect haven for us - a beautifully appointed, comfortable and quaint barn conversion cottage in a small village nestled in picturesque countryside."
Our host Ingrid was lovely, attentive to our needs and willing to provide advice when requested while being maintaining our privacy and allowing us to enjoy and maximize our stay. We would recommend Byre Cottage to anyone who wants to stay in a quiet village but in good location to all of the Lake District and Cumbria’s tourist sites and who appreciates comfort and a high standard of hospitality and support when needed. Thanks again Ingrid for a most wonderful stay at Byre Cottage.

"We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at Byre cottage."
It is located in a very picturesque village, a real "get away from it all" place, yet still close to the lake district and north Pennines. The cottage is beautifully furnished and comfortable with everything we needed. Ingrid, the owner, met us on arrival and was very welcoming. The owners live next door, so on hand if needed, but not in any way intrusive. Looking at the guest book, people return time after time. I can understand why. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily visit again in the future.

"Lovely clean property with everything that is needed."
Helpful owners. Would stop here again. Nice short walk to the village pub that serves nice food with friendly staff
-
"Byre Cottage is in a pretty village with a local pub close by."
The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The owners were very welcoming and responded very quickly to a small issue with the hot water. The staircase is wooden open treads and fairly steep which can be a bit of a challenge for someone with mobility issues. The bed linen and towels were really good quality and the beds so comfortable. Be aware that the mobile phone coverage is patchy especially Vodafone. However the WiFi was excellent. Thank you for a good stay.

"We had a great week in Byre Cottage which was lovely."
It was very clean and had everything we could have needed for our stay. One of the best we’ve stayed in. Its location allowed us to visit and walk in both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District which we did every day, despite some inclement weather at times! Our hosts Terry and Ingrid were great hosts and very promptly sorted out a problem we had with the heating. We couldn’t have had better service. The Three Greyhounds pub, just a couple of minutes walk away served delicious food and was very reasonably priced. All in all a brilliant week!

"Byre Cottage is beautiful and charming."
The decoration and furnishings are excellent. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen/diner is a lovely area to eat in. Our host was so nice and really helpful. We had great weather and it was delightful to sit in the garden. The village is quiet and the nearby village pub came in very handy.

Ideal location and property was spotlessly clean, well maintained and so quiet. Very comfy beds made it a supremely relaxing stay.

"Great property and location to explore Lake District, Cumbria and North Yorkshire."
Very welcoming arrival by owner and property is of very high standard. Both double bedrooms are ensuite and downstairs, while all living space is upstairs, which works really well. Very well appointed and located in a lovely small village with many walks around the area. Plenty of parking for vehicles(we had two) and only a few minutes drive from nearest towns with amenities etc. Will definitely use again and highly recommend for two couples sharing.
-
"I have nothing but praise for this cottage."
The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, we had a lovely welcome from the owner who showed me how to operate the heating then left us to explore the cottage. The owner was also great at communicating when I had a question. The cottage is a very respectfully and high quality barn conversion that, while had high ceilings was lovely and warm and completely cobweb free. I would highly recommend a stay at Byre Cottage and will definitely stay there again.
-

"Very enjoyable stay at Byre Cottage."
A warm welcome from the owner. Cottage was immaculately clean and very well equipped. A very nice and quiet setting. Only one little drawback, no phone signal. I would highly recommend a stay here.

"Home from home."
We loved our two week stay in Byre Cottage. Ingrid was very accommodating and ensured we had everything we needed for our stay. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and in a beautiful and quiet location.

"Byre Cottage is an absolutely charming place to stay."
The owner seems to have thought of everything. My friend and I went for some much needed peace and quiet and rest. The property is comfortable, extremely well located to explore Cumbria, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, which I have to say we did very little of as that was not the purpose of our stay. It was quiet - perfect for a re-set. The bedrooms are both en-suite and beautifully appointed, with large comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. Being an upside down layout the living area and kitchen are upstairs, which we thought was just perfect. We had a supermarket delivery on our first day and did any 'top up' shopping for essentials in Appleby. I can't say enough on how beautiful this place is, as a couple of 'Townies' it is completely different to what we're used to and we would both thoroughly recommend it to anyone. We would both happily go back, either together or on our own. GO - see for yourself !
-
"The cottage was lovely, being within easy reach of the lakes (by car) and a great pub just down the road."
The cottage was well appointed and clean, and ideal for two couples as both rooms had ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen area was large as also was the living room.
-
"We had an absolutely great stay at this lovely barn converted cottage."
There is everything in the cottage that is required. The cottage and the accessories be it in the kitchen, the living and bed rooms are at their best. Everything in the cottage is of very high quality and the cottage itself is spotless. The kitchen is beautifully designed. The surroundings of the cottage is stunningly beautiful. The village has a warm welcoming heart ❤ and the people are very friendly. The owners are superb
-
"We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful, well-appointed barn, where every comfort was catered for in this high-spec property."
We will certainly come again!
-
"On arrival we were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and helpful."
The cottage was exceptionally clean, very warm and cozy. Kitchen is very well equipped with everything we needed. Logs provided for the stove but we didn't actually use it. Location was perfect, quiet, peaceful and relaxing which is just what we needed away from our normal busy lives. We did some lovely walks in the surrounding areas and even managed to see red squirrels. We would not hesitate to recommend this cottage it is beautiful

"Byre Cottage was beautifully clean and tidy with really good quality bedding, towels and kitchen appliances/cutlery/crockery."
The property was really spacious with plenty of storage. The little garden was planted really nicely and we had the choice of two benches for sitting outside. The location is wonderfully quiet, with the beck running just in front, the village of interesting old houses and fields all around. You would definitely need a car as the bus service was very limited but we didn't to drive a great deal as Appleby is 10 minutes away and Penrith 30 mins.

"Fantastic immaculate cottage"
-
"The cottage is in the most wonderful village."
It is very pretty and has a real community spirit. The village pub "The Greyhound" is fantastic, serving all the locals and visitors with great food and a warm welcome. The owner of Byre Cottage greeted us on arrival and came to say goodbye when we left. She was so keen to help us in any way. The cottage was spotless. We had a wonderful week.
-
"The accomodation was high standard really well thought out felt comfortable and a lovely welcome pack of goodies."
Greeted on arrival to check all okay and how to work everything. Pub really friendly good food in walking distance and a pretty village to walk round loved driving over moors dodging sheep to get home each day. Although lots of small roads in and out of village to use.
-
"It was a great holiday the cottage was brilliant with everything you needed and we even had good weather highly recommended."
-
"This cottage was just perfect, it is beautiful and spotlessly clean."
Ingrid met us on arrival and was so friendly and helpful. A generous welcome pack shows the care and attention to detail that makes a great host. This area has a lot to offer, easy to reach the Lakes and the villages in between a joy to visit. Lovely walks and scenery. Local pub great too, make sure to visit them. We just wanted to stay longer.

"Byre Cottage was perfect!"
We loved every minute! The Cottage is finished to a very high standard and is very well equipped. The area is beautiful, we did a few walks from the village which were great! The local pub was within a minutes walk and they were lovely and friendly! Food good too!! We will definitely be returning ~ thank you for a wonderful week! X
-
"Excellent cottage with high quality interior."
Everything is top notch. Both the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are easily reached. Good selection of pubs around (the pub in the village - 200 yds away - is currently on restricted opening due to COVID) plus takeaways in Appleby. Broadband worked well. One of the best cottages we’ve stayed in.
-
"Byre cottage is lovely."
Very tastefully decorated and very homely. Lovely village with friendly people. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay even though the weather was a mixed bag. Great Asby is a lovely area and great for walking. Terry and Ingrid are very nice and we had a few very informative chats with them about the cottage and village. On the whole i would recommend Byre Cottage for comfort, cleanliness, and the area of the dales for a vacation. The local pub served basic pub grub which was very nice and the owners were very knowledgeable of the history of the pub and the area and very friendly...would love to return one day...x

It was well equipped, nice and warm and very clean. Its a great area to stay with quiet roads and the cottage is situated in a lovely village. We hope to go again next year.
-
"We had a lovely and very much needed trip away in a gorgeous cottage."
The location is quiet but bear in mind the nearest shop is some way away, it wasn't an issue for us as we came well prepared but it could catch some out if not planned for. The local pub is just a minutes walk away with some lovely walks from the front door or further afield if desired. The cottage itself was spotless and we were very well catered for. The owner is very close by (in the most beautiful house can I add) so if you have any issues/ questions it is easy to address. The information and contact with the owner was brilliant and I would happily return if only I could get more time off work. Many thanks

"What a lovely week we had, lovely cottage, stunning weather, and a beautiful area to explore."
Byre cottage was perfect, comfortable, clean and well equipped for all our needs. The added bonus was a field full of spring lambs right outside our front door. Hours of pleasure was spent watching from the house and garden. The owners were very helpful and friendly as were the local pub owners and staff. Highly recommended.

About the location
APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND
Penrith 14 miles.
The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.
