  • "A spacious and comfortable lodge."

A nice quiet area with good access to places of interest. Easy key collection and lots of equipment in the lodge to make the stay homely. Unfortunately the cleanliness was an issue. The floor had not be cleaned at all, within 5 minutes our socks were covered in dog hair and dirt. Never have we had to clean on arriving at a property. The floor and carpets were so dirty. There was remnants of a dog bone under the edge of the sofa and it was clear that large items had never been moved to clean. Lumps of hair and grit were hoovered up and I had to wipe all the window sills. The dust on the router had been there for weeks if not months, it was covered. Dog hair all over the leather sofa had to be cleaned before we could sit. Other issues we had were that the fire did not work, shower leaks lots of watet all over the floor in the main bathroom, you can see this is ongoing as the paint has gone brown on the skirting board. Freezer drawers all broken.

  • "The overall look of the lodge is very dated & needs updating, the toaster blew the electric & we had to go out side under the lodge to put it back on, the beds need replacing as not comfortable,, some of the cups had chips in them, they were plenty of pots & pans, the dining table chairs are very squeaky, the mat at the patio doors need replacing as it’s disgusting."

We have stayed at white cross bay over 20 times & the other lodges were a lot nicer than this lodge. The overall holiday was lovely as the views of the lake, which is a few minutes walk are stunning, the pool is ok a bit pricey as the price that was sent to us was completely different when we booked.

We are sorry to hear the lodge was to to your taste. Over the winter we have replaced the decking, refreshed the paint work, grouted the bathrooms and replaced all the mattresses, therefore can only assume personal taste came onto play as not had comments about being dated before. Sykes will be retaking photos at the end of April. We take on board the comments about the mat, now replaced with a more robust rubber mat. The toaster and cups will all to be replaced this week. Parkdean update their charges for use of site facilities annually. This is not in our control, however we will make sure this years costs are updated in the property details. Glad you enjoy Wxb and hope you enjoy many more visits to the site and are sorry our lodge was not to your taste. Property Owner

A fantastic location and very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The clothes rail dryer was broken and the toaster blew the electrics but apart from that all seemed to work well. We found the fuse switch easily enough with the instructions in the lodge.

When we arrived it didn't look as if it had been hoovered, it became apparent why when I tried to hoover up and the hoover had no suction at all. Under beds and sofas as well as main areas. Makes all the difference to a guests stay and if they return again.

There weren't enough forks and spoons and there was no information about anything - could have done with some information about how to work the hot tub, TVs, how to leave the lodge, bins and recycling etc and some info about the site - just a simple folder would have helped. The cottage itself was a great place to stay for a week and great location to visit lots of places in the Lake District.

We had a very comfortable 4 night stay exploring the local area and relaxing in the lodge. Hot tub was brilliant in the evenings. Very nice layout and open plan area. Hot tub maintenance guy visited twice a day which meant the water chemicals were checked and maintained perfectly. Walking distance to Brockhole which was very handy and loads of activities there for all ages, kids loved kayaking. Only slight downside was our kids found the single mattresses a bit uncomfortable, possibly a mattress topper would make a huge difference.

  • "We had a pleasant stay at Claife view lodge, however, there were a few area's which were disappointing."

There were cobwebs on the ceilings in most rooms. The main bathroom was dirty looking with black mold around the edges of the bath. The decking and hot tub are definitely in need of some attention or upgrade. All in all for paying £1500 for a week I would expect the lodge and outdoor areas including the hot tub (and cover) to be pristine. Definitely not value for money.

They had changed their pricing after we had booked and would not accept our booking agreement, very disappointing customer experience. On top of that, it was not worth the price we ended up paying. • "Claife View Lodge - Ambleside 77 We stayed here for a weeks holiday in November 2018."

This was booked through Sykes Cottages as the lodge is privately owned. On arrival the lodge was freezing cold, the heating had not been on for days and it would have been nice and welcoming, to arrive to a warm lodge especially this time of year. The lodge did not appear to be very clean. The basics were fine; clean bedding, clean toilet and shower, and main floor areas ok. We moved the coffee table to make more space for our little baby and noticed the rug was quite stained and the part of the rug under the coffee table had not been hoovered for a while! We attempted to hoover ourselves but the hoover was pretty useless. The bathroom door handle was broken and we reported this 2 days after our arrival, and it was finally repaired the day before we went home. There wasn’t much storage in the kitchen as the cupboards were all full of kitchen equipment (not sure it was all necessary!) so we stored stuff on top of the kitchen cupboards only to discover it was thick of dust and very greasy. We noticed that the extractor fan wasn’t even connected to anything. Skirting boards were grubby especially near kitchen bin, so we cleaned this ourselves. (Who wants to clean while they are on holiday?!) There was lots of dirt and old sweets etc under both sofas. The shower screen leaked everytime you used the shower and the grout/sealant was mouldy in places. We found a hairball on top of bathroom cabinet and hairs/dust behind bathroom door. We found food smears on inside of curtains in living room, and inside of windows were covered in fingerprints. Decking area could do with a jet wash after the summer. We reported these issues to Sykes Cottages when informing them of the broken door handle. The cleaning team did visit the following day and cleaned the floors, removed hairs from behind door and left fresh towels but did not action the other issues. However, it did make us feel a little more comfortable about staying there the rest of our holiday. We had an ok holiday, the site is nice, clubhouse is canny, and the site is in a great location. However, this lodge needs a deep clean and a bit of TLC asap! Hopefully no one else will feel the way we felt while staying there, or have to do their own cleaning whilst on holiday, and that the owners of this lodge have dealt with all the issues we informed them of! Lastly, the third bedroom is quite small, with no cupboard space and is definetly a bedroom for children. I don’t think the lodge is really suitable for 6 adults.

  • "We arrived at white cross bay after the designated check in time, but still had to wait over an hour to access our accomadation as cleaners were still busy."

This was not acceptable as we had a tired toddler in our party. When we did get in to our lodge we found it wasn’t cleaned to a very good standard, cobwebs in the bedrooms, and under sofas had not been vacuumed, as were still dirty. Also there was six of us in our party, so we expected enough towels for us all, however this was not the case as there were no towels left in master bedroom, this was very disappointing, we asked at reception for extra towels but were told that they did not provide any linen for our lodge, so we had to go out and buy towels, this was very inconvenient. Beds in one of the twin rooms were very uncomfortable and the sheet provided on one bed was awful and not a proper sheet. We have booked with Sykes before and were pleased with our accomatation, but were disappointed this time so will think twice before booking again, especially for the price we paid.
