  • "Fantastic position with lovely views."

As you can see in the photos the property is rather dated but has everything we needed. There’s a new three piece suite. To access the flat there are 8 quite steep steps but there’s a sturdy handrail. The private road is single track but only steep at parts. In the week we were there we didn’t meet another vehicle once. It wasn’t a problem at all as other reviews may suggest. When there are sheep in the field there’s one gate that has to be opened and closed. The owner is lovely and very responsive. The kettle stopped working and was replaced within hours. There was external decorating that had gone on longer than expected so scaffolding was still up. The owner immediately offered us a partial refund. We will definitely want to book this property the next time we go to the Lake District.

Isolated and exciting position with beautiful views of Windermere. Kitchen and bathroom could do with updating a little, but it didn't take away anything from our enjoyment, staying over the New Year with a dog.

The rooms and beds were cozy and very comfortable. The views of Lake Windemere from the dining room table were fantastic, and the location was close enough to Ambleside without the bustle or noise. It was also quite fun to watch the sheep and the wee lambs running about at breakfast time. It was a perfect vacation home.

  • "We had read previous reviews suggesting access to the account."

Modation is difficult, and we thought those were off putting. Access is a narrow lane, and the turn o to it needs to be taken carefully, but it is a tarmac road with a good surface all the way. Views form the property are stunning, and the owner was very helpful.

  • "Spacious comfortable apartment with a great view down Windermere and access to footpaths to Troutbeck and Ambleside."

Beware of the narrow, winding, steep in places access lane with few passing places - not for the nervous!! We were very pleased not to meet another car every time we drove along it during our week's holiday there. Also beware of the steep steps outside to access the door into the apartment. On the plus side being halfway up the mountain it is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the Lakeland visitors.

  • "A lovely cottage in a lovely setting with amazing views."

It was a tad chilly and we corks not get the heating to work, only one radiator came on like warm. But thankfully there was an electric fire in the living room. The accommodation was large and and set in a very remote area overlooking Windermere lake. This had many positives, with one downside. The single lane track that led to the property had no padding points and it was difficult to negotiate if encountering another vehicle coming the opposite direction. As a result we suffered some damage to our car which put a bit of a dampener on the holiday. Great for dog owners and hikers or those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

  • "I really loved the apartment and would recommend it to all my friends."

These are the pluses: - the apartment is spacious and comfortable with a fantastic view. It is well equipped. It is quiet and peaceful and has good wifi. It is also a short drive to Ambleside or Windermere for shops, bars and restaurants and other attractions. We went to Kendal for a supermarket shop and didn't find it to be too far. The description of it being in the heart of a village is misleading. Troutbeck is a huge sprawl of 'village' and in fact the house is very peaceful and located at the end of a private road. Access might be off putting for some - very narrow, steep and winding roads where you have to make frequent stops and potentially reverse to allow others to pass by. You need to be a confident driver in a normal sized vehicle (although we feel that this is true of the whole area). The kitchen is reasonably well equipped, but if you are a keen cook, you might need to bring some of your own stuff. We took our own big non-stick all purpose frying/one pot pan. We also took our own sharp knife and a coffee pot. We also took our own XBox device so our teenage son could continue to enjoy endless gaming and contact with his friends back home. But through this we were able to access our Netflix account. The living room was devine - stunning views from the windows - and comfy sofa and armchairs for us all to relax and watch movies. I loved this place and am missing it already !

The one problem we had was the heating. I was told it would come on at set times. It didn't and on 2 occasions not at all. It appears to be controlled in the apartment below (where a family are living) and l believe they must have changed it. It was definitely a minus point!

  • "We only had a short trip to the Lake District, but we loved our apartment and would definitely stay there again."

It was ideal for us, being close to Amble and Windermere and dog friendly! It had fantastic views over the lake from the lounge and both the bedrooms. We particularly liked sitting out the front in the morning with a cup of tea, looking at the lake, whilst the dog was free to just wander the grounds. It was a great place for walkers, with tracks up to Amble, Windermere and Troutbeck. The roads uphill to the house were a little bit challenging for my sister's small car, but we did manage to find easier routes with less sharp turns. The mortal man pub was a nice friendly place to stop in the evening on the way back, reasonably priced food, and the dog always got a little treat. All in all, a lovely little break away, in a secluded place, where the only people you see are hikers, but only a few minutes by car to Amble and Windermere. Comfortable, clean apartment, perfect for us and would recommend to others.

The accommodation is in a beautiful place with easy access to all the places you would be likely to want to visit. Dog walking was easy as you could walk straight from the house into beautiful woods and fields. My only comment rather than a complaint is that I wish owners of holiday accommodation would put in a decent size fridge. If you are self catering you will want somewhere to keep food. Not everyone can afford to eat out all the time. A decent size fridge that would hold enough food is necessary. A washing machine would be nice but not totally necessary if you are only away for a week.

The views as we made our way to Skelghyll took her breath away and when we reached Low Skelghyll, she was speech bound. The views from the house are amazing. The house itself was all that I expected, roomy, clean and truly home from home. Some people may find the lane a bit daunting but let me assure you, it is worth the drive. Low Skelgill is set in a tranquil location but well connected by public footpaths and bridleways for walking. The access road to the property was long and narrow, and only once did we meet someone coming the other way (a local farmer who reversed out of our way and was very helpful) The property was clean and well equipped and we were happy there for a week.
