  • "Wonderful house with every amenity you would ever require."

Exceptionally well furnished, warm and comfortable. We really felt at home plus Penny and her husband were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Todmorden is a great area to base yourself and we would recommend this particular house to anyone wanting to visit the area. Definitely 10 out of 10

  • "Really comfortable and homely cottage."

Equipped with everything you need. Beds really comfy! Was great to have the log burner for the chilly evenings too. Lovely and quiet with great views. Only slight issue was lack of immediate/accessible outside space to let the dog out. Would stay again definitely.

Hi Helen, sorry I am late replying to your feedback we have been away on a long trip. We note your comment about the lack of areas for exercising your dog. Did you find the meadow which is immediately at the back of the cottage, there is a gate just to the right of the backdoor which leads up into over an acre of shared meadow. This is well secured, with substantial stone walls to two boundaries and hedges supplemented by stock proof fencing on the remainder. Dogs would be able to run around here off the lead without bothering livestock. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay at your cottage."

There was plenty of room for the 7 of us and 2 dogs. The only thing I will say to future guests is that the drive way is very very tight. I have a Vivaro and was just able to park. The Wi-Fi is very hit and miss too, but that’s to be expected being in the hills. As for the property, it was spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. The cleanliness wasn’t too bad but it could have been better. There was thick dust on the head board and dishes left in the dishwasher and the oven when we arrived. The cleaner should be thoroughly checking areas like this. The beds were comfy, however, the zip and link bed ideally should be a proper zip and link so you don’t have the edge of two single mattresses in your back/side, or get a good quality mattress topper. That was very uncomfortable. Thank you both, it was a lovely week.

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate the feedback. Since your visit we have installed a new router which I hope will improve the Wi-Fi reception. The cleaner will be asked to ensure the oven and dishwasher are done, these are normally done but it appears on this occasion it was missed, our apologies. We acknowledge your point about the zip and link mattress. We struggled to find zip and link for the narrower mattresses when we upgraded them a few years ago, and have worked out a way of sorting this but its will need to be done when we have a quiet time as it is a time consuming job. In the mean time I will invest in a good quality mattress topper as you suggest. Property Owner

We were met by the owner who was really friendly and let us know that they were about if we had a problems. The cottage was roomy, comfortable and very well maintained with lots of information about the house and the local area. We had a minor issue with the oven which was quickly resolved by the owner. This is a lovely place to stay with walks right on your doorstep. I would recommend staying here and we would definitely rebook!

  • "Possitives: - The views of the surrounding were beautiful - The house looked charming - The house was very spacious Negatives: - The cleaning was very poor."

    - Wifi was insufficient for multiple devices - When using the shower, flushing the toilet or any other use of water at the same time left the person under the shower with almost no water

We are sorry that the cleaning was not up to standard, as we mentioned earlier, normally I check the property between guests but as we were away ourselves this was not possible on this occasion. We have looked at ways in which the cleaning can be improved in future. The wi-fi connection is poor to this hamlet, we struggle ourselves, and we have tried to maximise the band width we can get but there is only a limited amount we can do in this location. We will look into the issues that you had with the water pressure, thankyou for mentioning it, its very useful to have this feedback as we are unaware of these issues when we are doing routine maintenance. • "We had a lovely week at Salter Rake Gate Cottage."

We would highly recommend the property as it’s easy to access, well equipped and has spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The owners were on hand to assist with minor issues with the heating and were incredibly friendly. No issues with the tight drive up to the cottage on a single track road or with parking up a steep hill next to the property as with a little patience the car can be turned around quick enough. There are lovely walks nearby to beautiful reservoirs for all abilities and I would highly recommend visiting Healey Dell Nature Reserve for the waterfalls. We would love to stay again in the future.

  • "Fabulous cottage with lots of room."

Everything you need. in an amazing location for walking. Great having the log burner. Only 2 criticisms I’d have were it could do with a thorough clean Ie the dishwasher was quite grubby round all the controls and some surfaces dirty. Also there was no welcome essentials pack - not even any milk in fridge! For me just lacked a bit of that warm welcome. Overall nice place, plenty of room and fantastic location!

Thanks for your feed back Sarah, I note your comments about the dishwasher and I will ask our cleaners to make sure this is looked at more carefully. We haven't provided a welcome pack during COVID as we have tried to minimise contact, this is something we can look at reinstating now as things start to get back to normal. Property Owner

Excellent facilities at the cottage, it had everything you need and lots of space. There were a few hairs in the bathroom but the house was clean overall. Would be nice to have a little garden space in the meadow area and the WI-Fi router could do with upgrading. Also some people might be put off by the steep hill and parking situation, as it didn’t mention this in the booking description. We really enjoyed our stay though, and would highly recommend Salter Rake Cottage. The owners were very friendly too and our dog was happy.

Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall are great places to visit only a short drive away. The canal towpath is great for cycling and the Pennine Bridleway literally passes through the hamlet. • "The cottage is lovely and well-kept, clean, comfortable and well equipped, with plenty of space for 5 adults and a medium sized dog."

Penny and Nigel are lovely, and available if needed. We found the WiFi was very intermittent and phone signal very poor, especially inside the house due to the really thick stone walls, which did have the bonus of keeping the house cool. We spent the evenings watching bats from the house. There are lots of walking trails, but they are hard-going and probably not suitable for people with mobility issues or small children. Access to the cottage is via a long single-track, steep and windy road, with quite a few blind spots and few passing places. This is walkable but going down is far easier than coming back up as it is very steep! There is another walking track which straighter but steeper and would be more difficult after wet weather. It took us at least 10 minutes to walk down both tracks, and the local shop would probably take a further 10 minutes (or more) to walk to, but there are shops within a 10 minute drive, and the pubs would probably be about half hour walk from the cottage. We managed to pre-book an Asda grocery delivery for groceries but the driver did have difficulties finding the property as the postcode covers a very large area! Remember to take essentials like milk with you until you can get to a shop. The Gordon Riggs garden centre is a nice visit but only allows dogs in if they are put in a trolley - not suitable for our dog!! And the Waterfall tearooms and giftshop doesn't allow dogs at all, and currently doesn't sell gifts! We had a marvelous meal at the Shepherds Rest in Lumbutts, which was a short drive away, and allowed dogs in the covered outside area. The food was incredible and made better by the government's Eat out to Help out scheme. Drives to Blackpool, Liverpool and Leeds were just over 1 hour away from the cottage. Overall we had a lovely, peaceful stay in beautiful countryside surroundings.

The cottage was very clean indeed, very comfortable and also very practical for our two dogs. I worked in Manchester during the week and it is an easy commute to Victoria. I did get the opportunity for some stunning reservoir walks (inc. the 3 reservoir circuit above the cottage on the moors). It is a delightful cottage and we are very likely to book it again when needing to stay for any period of time. The location is wonderful, the house is a delight to stay in and the facilities really good. We did light the fire and that helped to make the cottage nice and warm of an evening as it was still quite chilly at the end of March. My feedback on the kitchen would be that the oven could do with a good clean! it was by no means really dirty but it was cleaner when we left than when we arrived.
