  • "Excellent location for walking the Wall Friendly, helpful owner and well equipped accommodation."

Warm and cosy even in October. Intermittent TV reception which wasn’t an issue for us. Minor damp stains on shower ceiling area and sealant along the kitchen cupboard kick plates could do with being renewed. Non of these spoiled our holiday and we would book this accommodation again unreservedly.

  • "My personal view after a few days stay at Vallum Kiosk is one that I can only describe as really positive."

The location is simply beautiful; we were surrounded by stunning scenery, minimal traffic & our only neighbours being Sam (who owns the bed & breakfast next door) lots of sheep & lovely birdsong. The little cottage had everything we needed & although bijou, it was enough for two. Lovely & clean, reasonably good WiFi & a lovely comfy bed. In terms of the actual spot, if you want a quiet retreat with open countryside, easy access to historical landmarks & places of interest, this is an ideal location. The owner Sam was an absolute delight, very knowledgeable about the area & happy to share information on where to go, places to eat & accessing the local amenities. Sam's dog Branston is an absolute joy. I would say, that if you want to get away to a little hideaway & spend time enjoying the beautiful views & the surrounding nature, this is the place to come. Just to add, in terms of cost, I would say it's very reasonable. We'll definitely be back.

  • "Small cottage in great location."

Vallum Lodge is small but adequate - except for the en-suite bathroom which is so small, there is hardly room to sit on the toilet. The furnishings are somewhat dated and not particularly comfortable. Although the property has been cleaned throughout prior to arrival, the interior is shabby and really needs updating and some TLC. The bed, sofa, dining chairs and toilet seat are all low and some people with mobility problems - like me- will have great difficulty getting up from them. Poor Wi-Fi and Tv reception but that may have caused by the windy conditions. However, the main feature of the cottage is its location. It is situated in an ideal position for so many places in a beautiful part of the country. Would we visit again? Probably not - at our age we like a bit more comfort. Would we have visited when we were younger (and fitter)? Yes, most definitely. It would be great base to walk or cycle from and with a good hot shower to return to! Jim

Great location between Kielder and Otterburn in the north and Alston and Weardale in the south. From the sofa you have a "great" view of an ugly barn. By switching sofa and table I created a nice view of the hills, and also better daylight on the table to do some crafts. To me, the furniture is not very comfy. WiFi is too slow, it is not possible to stream a movie. I would have liked a washing machine in stead of a dishwasher. The road along the Kiosk is busier than I expected. Not an issue when sitting inside, but with better wheather and sitting outside this would anoy me. All in all a great little gem.

  • "We absolutely loved everything about the holiday."

The kiosk was perfect for us and the 2 dogs and a canary, its very clean with great decor (we loved the cushions), with everything you'd need in the kitchen(also there is a small box freezer in the fridge for when your planning your meals to take also sam(lovely lady) will put some in her chest freezer if you take to much (plenty of coffee), the bathroom was spotless and the shower could hit the temperature I liked (very hot, just remember to turn it back down before the wife gets in, Oops)(also there's hand-wash, body wash, conditioner and shampoo (luckily this was my job to pack and I forgot)), bedroom again spotless plenty of storage, a soft bed (wife loved the lamps), lounge has a very comfy settee (we both dozed off a few times after the long walks) TV has all the free view channels, there's a Bluetooth speaker to play your music/radio on, tons of books/maps/leaflets on the walks locally (there's 2 very good books with the history and maps we used every night to plan for the next day). Sam and Branston were amazing, Sam was so welcoming and friendly, she had put fresh loaf, fresh butter and fresh milk for when we arrived, also a doggy bag with toys and treats for the dogs (yes I forgot to pack there toys also, so saved my life twice now). Branston is amazing so happy and friendly he bought us gifts numerous times his pink pig mainly. The location is perfect right in the centre of the best parts of the wall (our opinion only) you have sycamore gap (wife's favourite), winshield crags (the highest point(my favourite, so I could have an I'm king of the world moment)), Allen Banks ancient woods is 5 minutes in the car, large carpark (£4) and toilets (which was the dogs favorite walk), there are many many more walks there this is just the highlights. We went in March 2023 for a week and had a mixture of weathers (perfect for us, and the wife's pictures) sunny, snowing, windy and a downpour which we got caught in we came back like drowned rats and Sam came straight out to us and offered to dry our clothes by the aga over night, we met an array of people on the walks from all over the world everyone chatty and friendly, there was no litter anywhere in all the locations. So all in all its was perfect, we'll definitely be visiting again in autumn this time.

We were very comfortable and the owner was very kind, supplying us with home-made bread and local knowledge. • "Charming cosy cottage ideal for a relaxing break and an ideal base to explore the Northumberland scenery and view the amazing stars due to the extremely dark sky."

The kiosk although small has everything you need and it’s tastefully furnished with a very comfortable bed. The host was lovely and very approachable if you needed anything.

  • "Softer lighting in living area would be better rather than the overhead central light - perhaps a small standard lamp which could be adjusted for reading and / or watching TV ?"

Everything else suited our purpose very well and we were very comfortable as were our two elderly whippets!
