  • "We stayed here for a week during our summer holidays."

The overall impression is ok, the rooms are rather comfortable and furnished in a faux-elegant, but nevertheless consistent, style. The bed is a bit small but acceptable, bathrooms are very nice. Also, the location is excellent as a base for exploring the Forest of Bowland and other parts of Lancashire. However, there were several drawbacks leading to a weak rating: - Contrary to advertisement, there is no dishwasher - The internet speed is extremely poor, so that uploads of photos to the cloud after a days wal kwere virtually impossible. We used our mobile data volume most of the time - The Nespresso mashine is broken, so we never had coffee in the morning - The kitchen provided most essentials, however, quality of the instruments (knives, ladles etc.) was rather poor, and pots and pans only came in mini sizes (so that cooking for more than 2 persons will presumably be difficult) - Although there is no dishwasher, there was virtually no washing-up liquid provided (bottle was almost empty) - The cottage is located immediately next to the A6 (meaning, approx. 5m next to it). The bedrooms are located at the back though, so we were not much disturbed by car noise Overall, we think that the location has much potential if only a tiny bit of effort were invested in such details such as internet speed, working appliances, and correct listing of available gadgets.

Hamilton House Development

The Hamilton Development dates back to the 1600s and was originally built for the Duke of Hamilton, James Hamilton, with the surrounding grounds also owned by the Duke. James the Duke Hamilton was killed in the early 1700s during a duel in Hyde Park, and the property was then passed down through future generations. In 1986, the development was made a Grade II listed building, before later becoming a collection of six luxury apartments and three high-end barn conversions. Original features have been kept and restored, which was of high importance to the British heritage report, and now welcomes groups who desire to explore the South Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and Lancashire. This group’s location is ideal as there are some amazing treks and lovely eateries on the doorstep, and the town is worth a visit! Close by is the village of Scorton, which has a lovely three-mile walk around Nicky Nook with views of the Forest of Bowland, Heysham, and Morecambe. This trip concludes with two well-known eateries, The Apple Store and The Barn. Both are worth seeing while you're here! Garstang, a market town just down the road, has a range of shops, cafés, and pubs, as well as a weekly Thursday market. Lancaster's ancient downtown has a plethora of restaurants, shops, and bars; alternatively travel up to the castle for stories of the famed Pendle witches. The region is ideal for individuals who want to get out in the fresh air and explore the local footpaths or pedal the calm country lanes. Further afield, the home is close to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, allowing you easy access to some of Britain's most spectacular landscapes and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including Arnside and Silverdale, as well as the Forest of Bowland. The finest in local produce, cuisine and drink, award-winning gastro-pubs, and tourism attractions may be found in picturesque adjacent towns and villages. Activities in Ingleton include caving, climbing, and walking by the Waterfalls, while attractions in the south Lake District include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Lakes Aquarium, The World of Beatrice Potter, Lakeland Motor Museum, and Holker Hall Gardens. A trip south will take you to the seaside town of Blackpool, which is packed with activities, including Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Water Park, and Arcades on the Pier. Nestled between both the coast and countryside, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at Hamilton House Development.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
